The hacks of the type "turn on the player with no disc in it, press For this hack you will need a laptop with IR port, and the remote controle for your Philips dvd-623 1. Download http://www.veg.nildram.co.uk/remote13.zip and http://www.abc.se/~m1019/dvdplusrw/regionfree/butt2.zip 2. Unzip and copy files to a win98 bootable floppy. (Program will not work properly under win2000/nt) 3. Turn on your player without a dvd in the tray. 4. boot your laptop or pc with irda device on the floppy and run the command "winsamp C3 butt2.but" "C3" is the serial port of your ir device. You can check if the device transmits ir by looking at it through a digital camera. If your ir device is connected to serial port 2 use C2 instead C3. 4. Now the player displays "-------" enter with the original remote "222 222 005 255 5. I used the hack for the DVD723 model on Philips DVD623 (The DVD723 worked fine by the way with a region 2 disc) Open the tray with no disc Press "1 1 1 1" Press "0" Close Tray. I assume you can press 1 - 6 to change to another region (but why would you want to do that!) The player information can be brought up by opening the disc tray and pressing the "display" button on the remote. The info my player gave me was: "DVD623_171_V313_0206 Region 1 ATAPI_VER: 412F" The machine still boots with a region 1 listing, but reverts to whatever region you set it to when you load a disc. The region hack HAS NOT converted back after continuous power downs and disc changes. This is much easier than buying the One For ALL (which i couldn't find anyway) | |||

I have the 623, it DOES do PAL->NTSC if you are playing the PAL Movie, on the remote, hit setup, and find where Video Setup is, then Video Output hit NTSC and BOOM! PAL->NTSC, no converter required! the below code does work though! do 1pause1pause1pause1pause0 where pause is a physical one to two second pause before keying the next digit on remote | |||

In regards to my last post I first tried the "1 1 1 1 0" hack on the DVD724 and it worked fine, not the DVD723 (I don't think they make that model#!) Anyway, just wanted to re-iterate the hack because people keep emailing me about it. You must press each button quickly enough so it does not eject the tray. The 623 and 724 trays both will open/close if you hold down the "1" button on the remote given with the unit. I own a DVD store on the Northside of Chicago and I have SUCCESSFULLY converted over 30 of these players to region 0 personally! I don't know if the firmware makes a difference but my previous post has the version number listed so check that to see if it matches. If it doesn't, who knows if this same hack will work. ~DacaBBa~ | |||

The Philips DVD 623 is the same as a Alba dvd 109 but in a different case so the hack works on both. Power on the DVD player with no disc in press 0 0 0 0 + 0 the player will no say on the top left corner 'new region 0' and thats it your player is region free enjoy !! | |||

I just purchased a dvd 623 at a major San Francisco bay area electronics retailer for $76, including tax. I applied DacaBBa's hack dated November 26, 2002 and can now play region 3 DVDs. The hack remains after power down as claimed. Thanks!! | |||

Hello from Greece guys, Thank you for your usefull tips to start with. Unfortunately neither 11110 nor 0000+0 worked on my Philips DVD 623 purchased in Greece. When I try to dial 11110 they tray automatically closes and nothing happens. When I try to dial 0000+0 same happens. Furhtemore, how on earth do I dial "+" ?? The remote that came with my unti doen't have no "+" button ! Thank you for posting your answer to this great site, and please, unless necessary, do not email me.
