You will see "Region code <1>" (or whatever is the region currently). Then enter "0" for region free. I did this on a Region 1 unit I got from FutureShop in Vancouver, Canada. Can now watch my region 2 and region 1 DVD's. Nice compact unit at a bargain price. Thanks for all your help. | |||

I just recently bought a Malata 393 - unfortunately I bought it from a pawnshop, and will not be able to return it. I tried the hack cited in earlier postings: tray out; depress first the previous and the forward keys to bring up region 1. Finally enter 0. When I attempted to play Region 2 PAL DVDs I had no luck whether I was using the most basic RCA analogue connectors; the S video jack or the component output. The picture simply zoomed up and down (the PAL effect, no doubt). When I tried playing my Region 3 NCTS DVDs (eg. any number of Shaw Bros./Celestial Pictures items), then I was successful. However, if I cannot succeed with Region 2 PAL DVDs (my full size Malata 520 DVD player has no such problems), I shall be most disappointed. | |||
