	For latest firmware files (x141) and instructions, go to: http://fire.prohosting.com/aiblue/liteon/ Note: 5001B (Euro) models may not show a SN in setup screen. If that's the case, you may need to guess initial mobo and/or drive firmware level before upgrading to 2141. General idea is that a new, unmodified recorder comes with a E2S5 drive, however if you have installed 2135 upgrade above the drive has been flashed to F2S7. This is a guess though so don't sue me if it all ends in tears.

	1. Make sure there no disc in player 2. On your remote press RIGHT key (the key to the right of ENTER key) 3. Enter 800 4. Enter Region Code 5. Press ENTER key For example for Region 0 press RIGHT + 8000 + ENTER key combination. You will not see any confirmation. The only indication is a slight change of the serial number. Check the SETUP menu to see the serial number. You will see a number like this... Before Hack: xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx (1xx-xxxx) After Hack (say you selected region code 0) xxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx (0xx-xxxx) I don't have any DVDs other than Region 1 or 0 on hand, but I tested the player with Region 1 Charlie's Angels which I know has Region Code Enhancement. After changing the player to Region 2 I put in the DVD and, sure enough, the disc would not play. On the TV screen the DVD only displayed the warning and map regarding Region Coding. This shows that the region code of the player had in fact been changed. Remember to use your ORIGINAL serial number when checking Lite-On's website for firmware updates to make sure you get the proper one.

	found a hidden menu on the "Setup" menu on Lite-On's LVW-5001. you must do the following to open it. Enter "Setup" menu on the screen. Scroll down and highlight "Exit". While "Exit" is highlighted enter 2,9,6, and 0 and press "Enter". A hidden menu pops up and you can select your region.

	Just a note on the above "2-9-6-0" hack... This will enable the unit to record copy protected tapes AND DVDs! It makes the recorder totally ignore both CGMS/A and Macrovision. I have tested it and it has been found to work on units with firmware up to 1141. Also, copies from Macrovision encoded sources will also have Macrovision, but this does not affect the recording or playback.
