I just verified the above hack - it works. $24.99 at Best Buy, January 2007... can't beat it!

I'd like to confirm that f00's hack works perfectly on this model of DVD player. I bought the NS-DVD1 today at Best Buy for $26.99 (had one of those 10% off coupons for the $29.99 list price), took down my old Cyberhome CH-DVD500 (which hasn't been working properly for a long time), installed the Insignia unit, and applied f00's hack precisely as he gave it. Here it is again: 1) Remove disk (if any) from the player 2) Turn the player off 3) Turn the player on 4) Open tray 5) On remote press 9-7-3-5 6) A box should appear on the screen with a region number inside (1 for players sold in USA) 7) Use Up and Down arrow keys on the remote to select desired region (0 means region free) 8) Press Enter on the remote. Tray should close. 9) Enjoy I set the player to Region 0 and tested the three Region 2 DVD's I currently have in my library in it. (For the record, these are "47 Morto Che Parla" from FHV (Italian), "Pot-Bouille" from Studio Canal (French) and "Sins" (a British freebie giveaway from the Daily Mail newspaper).) All three DVD's worked perfectly and the picture quality was quite good for a budget-model player such as the NS-DVD1. Since I have two more Region 2 DVD's coming in that I bought off eBay last week and have my eye on a couple more, I am VERY pleased with this player and with the success of the hack.

Just bought Insignia NS-DVD1 from Best Buy today (1/12/08). Hack for region code above works like a charm. Takes all of 30 seconds to hack region code. Thanks!!

Note, Insignia has changed their baseline version of this DVD to the NS-DVD1-A, sold at Best Buy (and presumably other retailers as well). The hack listed herein does NOT work with the -A version of this player.

This hack worked for me on two different NS-DVD1 Just a clarification note: I was confused about what was meant by "on the screen" mentioned here. The DVD has no display. So I basically assumed it would be at 1 (bought in US) and I pushed the down arrow once to presumably make it zero - even though I couldn't see any numbers. Followed the instructions and the tray closed.... Then I figured out "screen" meant tv screen. I repeated the process just to verify, and on the screen it did confirm region "0" in the box. It worked. Thank you. |
