@arizonastar: Open your eyes: SUPER is ad-ware - it's even mentioned in the description! During the set up it asks for user permission to install a lot of crap, but as far as I know it installs much more than it affirms to. Probably, this is how they make money. It's more scam than useful software.
Regarding quality... it's not outstanding, it's not even good. It is hard enough to set up an encoder properly and this ui doesn't help much. Development is going slowly and sporadically and with no remarkable improvement. I wouldn't wonder if the changes only affect the ad-ware part.
Everyone should at least try to look for alternatives. There are so many good front-ends out there. No need to waste time with this junk!

Lot of rumers and buzz about adware that i never ever noticed since 2009, but it has been always like this with this freeware.
I was always wondering about this freeware initially released in 2005 where users claim finding
Adware, Spyware and trojans and stuff... but in the meantime, it is still hosted since its first day on Videohelp, brothersoft, afterdawn, softpedia, chip.de and many other download sites sites.

This SUPER uses FFmpeg and MEncoder like all other encoders but it is
still very easy to use and extremely rich in terms of codecs and formats.
You get the quality of your settings. If I speak for myself, I am getting outstanding quality on
my fast Win7-64 machine.
It is a very good freeware and has been here for the past 8 years.

I wish I could give this negative numbers. SUPER made a name for itself years ago, but it has now gone to total shit. It is loaded with adware and the user interface is a complete disaster.

DO NOT INSTALL THIS PIECE OF CRAP

Before installing this app, see if you can find *any* verifiable info about the company or people that produce it on their website. Do a whois and see if you can find their listed address on any mapping system. See if any of their support email addresses actually work.

Then ask yourself if you feel comfortable using this software.

Very easy to use. Also has loads of presets and formats. Just don't expect expert settings. Just make sure you decline all the adware that pops up on install. I just wish they'd be more open and transparent with the adware.

I used Super a few years ago, no problem. Today I installed the latest version, attempted to decline the add-ins, but still ended up with my homepage changed, new toolbar, changed search engine, and a couple of other unrequested addins to FireFox. I was so irritated that I deleted Super without even running it, and spent an hour undoing all the crap Super added and verifying the crap was truly removed. Super is bad news. Stay away from it. If you must run it, use Sandboxee to contain it, and then have the supreme pleasure of sending Super and its crap to oblivion when you are done!

I will now look at other ffmpeg GUIs or just run ffmpeg from the command line.

What is the use of speed and quality when the file m2ts resolution rates are not proper and compatible for bluray instead of 1088 please put it to 1080 to make it more compliant for bluray and also give choices for dts encoder so we choose the bitrate for it e.g 768, 1536. I hope the author is smart enough to do this job and why not add some features for 3d bd muxing into it as nobody has done it.

The change log says "Great overall speed and quality enhancement when encoding into ... Output Container". I'm wondering how the container affects the video quality. Isn't that up to the specific video encoder?
Yet I can't see any improvement here.

Opened internet explorer in the middle of trying to convert something and sent me to some "codec" download.

Antivirus blocked Java from accessing randomsitename.net/file.png. Trying to exploit the latest java issues?

Thankfully i installed it in a sandbox.

I gave it all 10's, but overall a 3 because of all the bloat-ware added. The trick is to agree to the initial install and decline the next two windows... I unchecked all the toolbar checkoff boxes and then hit decline. Also for the weatherbug garbage, I declined that as well. I'll have to see if it installed any other crap-ware on the system. The last time I installed this, I also got slammed with the ad/spy/bloat-ware. It took me an hour to clean it up and install a previous version. The previous version no longer works as they've somehow disabled it from remote. They can do this since all previous versions access the internet to check for a newer version. Quite annoying. It's truly a bummer as this was a really handy too. I'll post an update if I find any more crapware added in.

The adware is not mandatory, the opt-outs just very trickily placed.
The first is above the agreement instead of the usual check boxes under the eula most free software has, and the second is simply the decline button immediately before installation, giving the impression that to click decline will abort the install.

If you want to use this software, you MUST install the toolbars that alter all of your browsers home page, search engines along with several toolbars and browser helper objects. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you do NOT use this software for that reason alone. The toolbars are ABUSIVE!

I am running v2012.build.51 on WIN 8 - works great.
the behavior of installing all these crapwares and toolbars is becoming extremely common with all freewares. not a big deal anymore.
BTW, the EndUSerLicenseAgreement (EULA) clearly mentions this behavior and warns you NOT TO INSTALL if you don't want to..

@ leaglebob
super does not assign the temp folder location.
super exclusively relies on Windows to detect the default %temp% and simply use it once found !

you may change anytime and as much times as you wish your %temp% folder location.
it is a functionality in Windows available to anyone.

you may either Google 'change temp folder location' or try this URL

I was happy with build 50 and really all the prior ones too. At build 50 SUPER CHANGED DRAMATICALLY. I use it to transcode .ts files to avi/divx/mp3 files. The big change with build 50 is that it builds its temporary file on the C Drive now as a renamed alpha-numberic file and THEN it fails to release/erase/delete that file on successful transcoding. I only have about 7 GB free space on my C Drive so basically I can only recode one hour long show at a time. Movies have to be split in half to have enough room for the transcoding.

I was hoping this would be fixed in build 51 but I don't see it addressed--but the change creating this problem wasn't posted either. I don't like updating software when the changes don't give me anything I want. I should have stayed with build 49 for this very reason but I started getting scripting errors that I assumed was a subtle hint to upgrade, so I did. I suppose SUPER can't get any worse for me than it is.

Of Note: the temp files do seem to release on files of small sizes or it might be files of DvD resolution. Haven't yet narrowed down which issue is controlling.

TO THE FOLKS AT SUPER: go back to build 49 and have the temp file created in the destination target folder. That can be made to be off the C drive so that space is not a limiting factor. After that---you could as in build 49 have the tenmp file with the same name as the original file. That way on crash, you still get a partial file--very helpful quite often. Also==of course, the temp file should be deleted when the file is finished.

DESIRED CHANGE: when doing batch encoding, if there is "an issue" just skip the file and note it. I hate going to the computer with 20 files waiting to be decoded because I changed the name one one of the early files to be decoded. Same with the new "wait for response" to the number of audio files detected. Just note a decode, or skip it.

All the improvements in build 50 have made SUPER almost unusable. This has forced me to look at alternative programs. None of them stack up to build 49 in my book.......but we shall see.

ALSO---its asinine to disable the older builds of your program. Yes, the program is free, but what the hey?

Hm... new version, but the changelog doesn't say stuff like: "...removed tons of annoying add-ware crap to make it more user-friendly" - fail! Installing this "application" still ends in utter system pollution.

I haven't used Super in a while. I've been using Freemake on my 64 bit PC but I had a problem with a H264 that I was trying to convert to XVID so I decided to download Super to try it again. Not only did it load a bunch of bloatware I neither needed or wanted, it gave me an access violation every time it loaded. When I decied to uninstall Super and its bloatware with Revo Installer, the Insight toolbar and software had loaded over 900 registry additions which had to be deleted individually. Took me a couple of hours just to remove that crap. Super has always needed a great deal of resources but even though I have a much more powerful PC, the software is a lot worse. I consider this a disaster.

Long story short, I tried the "problem" converstion again on Freemake, changed the inputs, and voila, it worked perfectly in a matter of minutes.

If you're looking for a free, easy-to-use video converter, I recommend Freemake.

There seems to be high concern for add-ons, etc. in installation; I just installed the latest version and I didn't see anything that was any different from most of the free utilities out there. Sure, there was the traditional toolbar, etc. After all, the guy has to make some money somehow. All I did was choose not to install, the same as I do with 90% of the popular utilities available. No big deal. Just go slow and read all the options as you install and deselect the ones you don't want. As far as performance, Super is like all the others and better than some. It has saved my bacon a couple of times when my other tools would not do the conversion job. And it has failed several times also. Haven't they all? That's why most of us have several utilities installed, right? Ok, the guy has some attitude, but I can set that aside. For free? Come on, folks, it didn't cost you anything after all, and it works. Many times it really works great. By the way, the first time I booted it Avira tagged a "malicious item", but in the details I saw it was a heuristic tag, not a logged virus. I ran Avira on the installation file before installing and it came up clean. False positive. Just thought I would mention it.
