I still really like this program - it has managed to convert any video files I tried to any other format. It will also extract the audio only from FLV or MOV (and I assume almost any video format) to MP3 or WAV in a single step and quickly. However the installation is pretty insidious about installing Ask.com stuff. I had been using Beta version 4.0.0.32B and it just told me the Beta had expired and would not run. This meant that I had to install either a newer Beta (probably would also expire) or a release version. The current release version is 4.0.0.20 - but it will only install when one of installing Ask.com toolbar or Ask.com as Homepage is chosen - otherwise it will refuse to install and I did NOT find a way to Abort the installation - I had to resort to using Task Manager to stop that installation. So I downloaded and installed an older version 4.0.0.8 which did not seem to offer Ask.com (and as far as I can see no Ask.com were installed) - BUT I still found TWO Ask.com EXE files in the QMC program directory - which I have to assume have to be there for the program to run - see my previous review on this. Overall this is a very powerful and fast program - it has managed to convert any video file I have tried to any format. It also extracts audio to MP3 or WAV in a single step - the default MP3 bit rate seems to be 192k - but under Expert Mode one can set that to any other rate but must set the codec to libmp3lame. Easy Mode is very easy - Expert Mode seems less intuitive and mostly I have to do research to find out how to use it properly (there doesn't seem to be any documentation for the Expert Mode) - but once I know how, it is very flexible and powerful.

I like this a lot - can convert just about any of my common video files to any other format. It can also correct/change aspect ratios. In the Easy Mode sometimes the default video bit-rate can be a bit low - especially if one chooses to custom set a larger frame-size over the default small frame-size - I look at the original file info then set the same bit-rate for the same frame-size - this needs using the expert mode - watch out for the default frame-rate offered to save MOV at 25fps - set it to 29.97fps or whatever..... Beware of the offer to install Ask.com stuff - the way it's done is very tricky - it makes more than one choice with Ask stuff and one has to VERY careful not to select any - otherwise Ask.com does get installed - Ask.com stuff is really insidious - and once installed Ask.com stuff is really hard to get rid of. Another thing is that there are two Ask.com EXE files in the QMC program files folder, regardless of if one manages to avoid installing Ask.com stuff. If these Ask.com EXE files are deleted (which I did several times) QMC will then say that it is a copy program running and refuse to continue - the only resort is to reinstall which puts those Ask.com EXEs back in the folder - took me a while to figure this out. I really dislike Ask.com stuff, and this is really an irritating, and pretty distasteful condition of use. Otherwise I do really like QMC.

This worked great, for awhile, converting MP4 files to AVI. The AVI created was much larger then the original MP4 input. But the video quality was entacked and no audio sync issues at all. The interface is very strange and could be made a lot easier. But for what I needed, it was great while it loaded. THEN, suddenly for no reason the app would not start up. Removing and re install did not fix it. Still no go. It was like it worked great, then totally stopped. Almost like it timed out, even though this is a freeware app. Moving on to a diff converter...

WinFF converts much faster-though not as broad a selection as this program. Failed to convert swf to gif. Too many problems.

pretty neat tool but not infallible. Itfailed on some wmv to avi conversions. Could not open the wmv file. Then I used Any video Converter anf it did a fine job.

Very slick and professional in every way. I also like that it allows you to specify aspect ratio, which makes this also a good program for fixing aspect ratios. Does an excellent job of converting flv to windows media. I have it installed on Vista system.

While the program appeared to convert the file, the user interface needs a lot of help. When adding files, there is no way to change the order. While a minor thing, I had a large list of files to convert and after opening the folder, I couldn't change the list to prioritize the conversion processes. The conversion status didn't provide a percentage done for the file it was working on either.

Nothing this little app did, worked for me. In two cases, when trying to encode into avi (divx or xvid) from an mpg2 file, it gave me an error. When trying to encode into a quicktime file it actually made an mp4 video (h264... so it said...) but none of my players were able to play it (vlc and mpc included). Easy to use indeed, but what's the point if in the end you get pretty much nothing out of it. Well.. maybe it will work for others, for me it was a waste pf time. Good luck to the developer with future versions!!

Finally, a all in one converter that works with Vista. For all you fellow dummies out there this program is ridiculously easy to use. I believe I have found my Super replacement.
