This worked great, been struggling with nothing but bad MKV's from HandBrake. This worked on the first try and the file output was perfect.

Been trying different audio/video encoders for the past 2-3 days trying to find a replacement for SuperC as any version above build35 of SuperC is just terrible. Xvid4PSP is so far a excellent replacement. I'm using version 5.0.37.8_r132, so far its been very comforatable to use although joining video files together was kind of confusing to start with. Apart from that great! For those wondering how to join video files; - Open the files you want to join then go to File > Join File.. - Browse and select the files you want to join then click "ok" - Click "Enqueue", save the file where you want, then click "Encode". Sit back and wait :)

There is a bug with ALL recent 5.0 releases of XviD4PSP when running on 64 bit Windows 7. When encoding a .mp4 or .avi encoded with AAC audio to AC3 the audio track is blank (silent). The output audio encoding doesn't make any difference. Using exactly the same version in Windows XP 32 bit works fine. I have tried the following versions: 5.10.234.0 (16.4.2011), 5.10.268.0 (26.10.2011), and 5.10.271.0 (07.11.2011). It appears to be some sort of issue with avisynth and the bassAudio plugin. Demux works fine - I can hear the audio Save to WAV creates a file BUT I get no audio when I play the created file. Looking at the logs, the SCRIPT section shows that with 64 bit Windows 7, the loadplugin(.....bassAudio.dll) line is missing, presumably because the import(...AudioFunctions.avs) line failed. Also there is no AudioDub line, probably because they is no audio track. So, in conclusion, I believe that version 5.10 is unusable in 64 bit windows 7 if the source file has AAC audio (which is nearly ALL HD video these days).

Version 5.10.271 has installation problem when writing to C:\Windows\WinSXS directory. I had to click "Ignore" button about 20 times to finish installation.

Is it just me or does the newest version have some install bugs in it?

I've been using the ole version 5 for a while to down convert audio tracks. It has a neat feature where you could also convert to Stereo or any other variable. From 6 channel to 2 or to Pro Logic etc. Unfortunately, unless I'm not looking in the right place, in Version 6 this feature has been removed. You can still down convert to any bitrate you want but the 6 channel to 2 channel feature has been removed. That's a shame. It was a feature I used on a frequent basis. I guess I'll just have to go back to Version 5 and stick with it.

iv'e bin using version 5.10.234 and the only problems with it is it log alot and every time you put one video to convert you can't see the video file your converting on till you press encode and when put the resolution the 480*272 it take so long and it stuck a lot but it always converts the video awesome version 6.03.3177 is the best in so many ways the interface is amazing but it still take long to convert like v5 in R 480*272 but the biggest problem for me is the videos are converting with some strange lines in them and looks completely different from the source video when the source video Resolution is less them 480*272 or 680 to say 800 pixel the lines are in the video and it look bad and liney but if it is 1280*720 the quality of the video very good and normal just like the input video and the same quality that V5 would give what could be wrong i think i found the problem but first this is still a beta right so it still being worked on. The (interpolation)in V6.03.3177 filter setting has 11 setting but the best is set to (LANCZOS) and the pixel format has two setting in (YUV420P)the line are there VERY STRONG but when you change the pixel format to (YUVJ420P) the are still there but NOT SO STRONG now in V5 the (interpolation)in V5 is called (RE SIZE FILTER) and has 14 setting and buy default it is set to (LANCZOS4RESIZE) but doesn't have a pixel setting and the video converted in this setting all come out perfect so to fix the problem in V6.03.3177 you need to add (LANCZOS4RESIZE) to V6.03.3177 filter setting i believe the word re size in (LANCZOS4RESIZE) means when your changing the resolution of a video from a low Resolution or high resolution the pixel will re size the video and keep the the source quality so as i stated to fix the problem thay need to add (LANCZOS4RESIZE) to V6.03.3177 filter setting PLEASE fix it i really really love using V6.03.3177

Odd/misleading name, "Xvid4PSP", considering it encodes for just about every device. I personally use it for encoding mp4 videos for my iPod, but I have also encoded videos for Nintendo DS (NDS), and PlayStation Portable (PSP). NDS (Nintendo DS): Xvid4PSP could not measure up to Moonshell's DpgEnc. The audio was really rough with Xvid4PSP. DpgEnc had perfect audio, so it remains my dpg encoder. MP4 (iPod/iPhone): I've used this program in the past to encode many episodes of "Charmed" which I've been watching on my iPod Touch 4. It's been great. The video and audio quality have been top notch. However, recently with XVid4PSP version 5, the audio quality is suddenly "buzzy" and slightly irritating. It reminds me of the bad audio I was getting from the Nintendo dpg video encodes. I hope this is a bug that gets fixed. I am currently trying out the latest beta version 6.x hoping it is already fixed. The interface is decent, but not ideal for me. But it gets the job done. I would prefer a more standardized Windows look and feel. I would like to see options for default tag editing of the encoded file, particularly with iPod/iPhone videos. I had to manually edit the tags (using Mp3Tag) to make my TV shows show up under "TV Shows" instead of "Movies". But if it automatically pulled out that info from the filename and added it to the tags, it would be outstanding!

Installed and ran it. Worked fine. But: After closing the program all the executables in the installation dir were gone. Deleted, no recovery possible. Re-installed and tried again. Opened an .mkv file, open file failed because "DirectShowSource not available" (something like that), although I have all the required tools installed. After closing the prog the executables were gone again. I dont know why, but I deleted the remaining files as well. After all, for those who get it to work it may be fine. IMHO, 170+ mb install size is too much, though.

It's not just for PSP! I've been looking for a decent tool to backup some dvds and do some recodes. This tool is extremely easy to use. I had problems with a particular (bad) conversion that was interlaced and this came through easily. I LOVE how it processes discs: The navigation pane brings up single titles instead of a bunch of VOBs, and parses Bluray play lists automatically. the available formats and presets are adequate for me and the interface is quite beautiful...unlike most free tools. May have to pack up RipBot264 as well.

I am in love with XviD4PSP. It's the best video authoring software ever.Updated very often, the Developers are damn friendly and I like it. Gives the perfect outputs as you desire.

Love this program (Version 5, 6 is a step down imo)..... But, can you please make AC3 compatible with the MP4 preset, or at least give an option to remove that freaking warning sign that pops up every time it goes to cache the video, it gets really tiresome to click the OK box when you've got 20+ videos on it. I'm not sure why it's not supported in the first place, ac3 has been compatible with ps3 for years now. and if you are not the one updating it can you tell me who is, or pass that message along to them?

Even the tool is listed under "Tools with OGM to AVI support" it does not support OGM to AVI conversion. It only is able to convert from OGM to MP4 ... But I'll give it a try!

mp4 converted to avi with this tools posing problem. mp4(avc+aac 5.1), if converted to avi(xvid+ac3 multichannel), will not produce sound when played in standalone DVD/Divx players. But has sound when played on the computer- windows media player ( not in VLC)

The stable version is not confusing at all... But the beta is totally confusing... And can only use the beta for my PSP. :( But it works and it's easy to use after 5 minutes!

For previous poster: Not all the tools presented here are free so rating system is done the same way for all of them free or not free. This is an awesome piece of software, it gives me "almost" the best x264 quality possible (the only competitor I find worth mentioning is Mpegstreamclip who gives somewhat sharper and fuller image at same bitrate as Xvid4psp). Any version above 5.037 crashes on my Vista 64 8G Ram Core 2 Quad. It keeps telling me it can't load some filters so I am staying with the version I mentioned, won't trade it for another encoder, this one is simply great. It uses Avisynth so deinterlacing and resizing is simply great. Big thank you to the developer!

A great utility that has pretty much all the features you'd ever need in a video encoder. I really just wish that V5 was still kept updated. Great user interface: extremely well laid out and easy to use, yet also gives you all the options you need as a power user. It is of course oriented towards encoding for mobile devices, but I find that with the FCP I can use it as a good encoder in place of MeGUI for encoding anime RAWs off TS streams and etc. It handles all the DGIndex, audio cutting, and muxing crap and stuff for you, but lets you edit the AviSynth script for more advanced users.

Why do have to give value for money when you have to form your post when this is freeware, give it 10 for that anyway? Anyway this is slick looking software which would be quite superb if it worked. It crashes on choosing avisynth filters in video as well as throwing up error in logs. Over complicated and has no guides with it. Loads of bugs and needs sorting out drastically. Shame really as I have never seen as much stuff incorporated in to one complete package, result though too cluttered and buggy! Stick with reliably superb AutoGK and excellent AviREcomp is my advice or AutoMen/HDConvertToX

Works fine on Win 7 Pro. Finally I got working tool that converts interlaced DV to Xbox MP4 compatible fomat with proper deinterlacing.

Great Program. The freeware works very nice. Thanks a lot. I am very happy about that!!!! :-)))

I found this program very slick, it crashed on my Windows7 but work like a charm on vista converting mkv files to avi in full glory AC3 and HD xvid. As my old media player is so fussy with avi files. I was looking for this kind of tools in the past I had to make do with a boring WMA format as a workarround. One thing I like is the speed at which can process the files and the bigger the files its just gobbles them up and spits them it out and still says Job complete. Nice one..

Nice and powerful tool, quite easy to use and without negative surprise with the converted video. Sadly, the website is not accessible without adding yet another plugin, you can't even download the program itself - luckily the link here does the trick.
