Version 3.0.8.1. is last reliable version that works for me. The problems are all audio related.
Seriously, let's label this version "0.3.1.0.0 Beta" and wait for 6 thousand 9 hundred updates until it gets to a working 1.0 version.

v3.1.0.0 Audio Copy still not working. Seems the author is not reading this forum. I'll stick with v3.0.8.1.

Have been using this converter for ages and I have no doubt it is the best free converter out there. Probably the best full stop. Tried lots of others, free and commercial. ***** 5 stars. I always run all my conversions through Boilsoft Video Splitter. Doing this ensures compatibility with all players and also fixes any sound problems. Apart from editing the End Credits!

v3.0.9.6 is still not working properly. (see my description, 3 posts down). Whatever they 'fixed' in v3.0.8.4, it got broken. So I will continue to use v3.0.8.1.

I've used Xmedia Recodes for a couple of years now, and love it. That being said, after upgrading to 3.0.9.0 my finished videos will not play on my WDLivePlus. Can' play them with VideoLAN, but works with other media players. Not sure the problem, but went back to 3.0.8.1 and all is right with the world right now. I encode to H.264/mkv using the WDLive profile and tinker with only the AAC encoding (Increase volume 500%) I'm sure the next release will be work, but I always keep a back up copy prior release in case the new one craps.

After reading previous reviews I decided to try 3.0.6.7. Will keep an eye on comments. Definitely about the best ffmpeg front end I've tried. I haven't had any problems but I haven't torture tested it, and I don't see a really compelling reason to use it rather than handbrake for h.264 until I'm convinced its handling is more robust. But for other formats it works very well. The output is excellent. I don't think it'll make me stop using avidemux quite yet though. Layout and ease of use is very good, but it's not a good program for a beginner. Workflow is a bit cockeyed at first but it works well once you get on ton it. The lack of english docs is a real problem but there are guides available on the web. It's definitely good enough for me to keep an eye on newer updates.

Rwmol. Basically all I am trying to do is convert an MKV file to MP4 without re-encoding. Why? Because my Sony Bravia TV does not support MKV. Open MKV video file. In 'Format' tab, select Profile: Custom, Format: MP4, File extension: mp4. In 'Video' tab, select 'Video Copy'. In 'Audio' tab, select Modus: 'Copy' Click 'Add Job'. Click 'Encode'. The 'Encoding' window appears briefly and then disappears. It happens when audio is AC3 or AAC (I've not tried any other audio format). I am using the portable version of XMedia Recode (if that makes a difference!). The last version that worked was v3.0.8.1 (not 3.0.8.0 as I stated previously).

I love that they always update to the latest x264 lib. The options are clearly laid out. It's a direct competitor to the Handbrake family of encoders and a serious alternative to paid version encoders. Has an advantage over staxrip, megui and ripbot in that it processes your files immediately instead of demuxing and indexing first. (Not demuxing and indexing could lead to errors on bad source material though). One of the best free or otherwise x264 encoder guis out there. But as mentioned before, this version muxes with an apparent audio delay of ~1 minute, 5 seconds. Maybe it's a fault of lavf?
Most of the MKV files produced by 3.0.9.0 have a 1mn 500ms Audio Delay in the MKV header. I run the new file through the mkvmerge GUI and it's gone (The VLC player plays it without a delay).

Marco_The_Boy, I selected a VOB file from a movie on my hard drive, selected AC3 format and Audio Only. The audio was created just fine. Perhaps you can start a thread in the forum providing more details and we can get to the bottom of you trouble.

v3.0.9.0 still does not work with 'Copy AC3'. The last version that I have which works is v3.0.8.0. I have tested it on Win XP and Win 7.

Unstable release that crashes everytime I add a job under the Jobs tab. I click on the "+" button and the whole program disappears on it's own. So I currently can't add multiple jobs one after another. And now when I do add just one individual job, the output becomes a "undf" file while trying to play it in VLC. The way this program currently stands it gets an EPIC FAIL.

Like the below commenter, Nothing above 3067 works for me. All have the same problem. Using newer versions with the same MKV settings H264 constant qual 20 or average bitrate for DVDs of 1500 to 2000 all videos seem to have have the preceding frame still showing causing the video to rapidly seem to stop and start with a trailing effect from the previous frame. Older versions work just fine.

I have skipped the versions 3.0.7.x to 3.0.8.5 due to stability and functionality issues for me. Testing now Rev 3.0.8.8. Crop and resize is now working again, tested with avi/xvid and mkv/h264 dest. Many thanks to the developers. The overall stability has increased. My favorite converter tool is back, so I can use it for 90% of the tasks. I prefer rock solid functionality, dont want overloaded programs. Beside this I suggest some "fine tuning" on existing functions: 1. did not find a setting to change the color of the rendered subs 2. did not find how to render only forced subs Thanks for this awesome tool.

Subtitles still don't work for me. If there is an extra piece of software that I am supposed to install, I hope VideoHelp puts it in the description.
I didn't realize that the output was set to MP4. When changed to MKV, everything works great. Sorry for the confusion.

Can't get "Copy Audio" to work with AC3.
With the new release (3.0.8.5) "Copy audio" no more causing the crash of this wonderful piece of software.

"Copy audio" is causing the program to crash.

The "Copy Audio" doesn't work...

I've just downloaded the lastest version and AVG is no longer reporting this as infected. I guess it must have been a false positive with the previous version. Now OK.
"...AVG reported it as being infected..." Yesterday i have downloaded the new (3.0.8.0) version and no virus was inside. Maybe your computer was already infected (or just a false alarm), but for sure Xmedia Recode is not a "virusware". Check your computer again!

This is a very useful tool which I've been using for a while. However, 2 days ago AVG reported it as being infected with a virus: "Trojan horse BackDoor.Hupigon5.CCFB";"c:\Program Files (x86)\XMedia Recode\XMedia Recode.exe". I'm hoping the report is a false positive. Has anyone else come across this?
