I have been using this software to convert avi files to DVD (VOB files) and it works great for me. I use TMPGE also but lately I have been getting errors while converting to MPEG. This WinAVI I just open the app and point to the file I want to convert and 40-50 minutes later I have DVD vob files ready to burn. So far I have not used it to convert to other formats but I'm sure I will eventually use in the near future.

Great program. Especially if you want include subtitles without any hassle. Just make sure you have something like directvobsub of ffdshow installed. Also no effort to convert ac3 encoded avi's to 5.1 (if so encoded). If the movie consists of more parts, just put them together in the list, order them and the dvd will have 2 titles. I experienced no problems with crashes (untill now. Used it to convert 10 divx/xvid)whatsoever. I didn't use other functions than creating DVD, so no expierence there. What I would like to see in the next version is the ability to make the subs selectable rather then embedded in the movie.

Already an expert at using TMPGEnc to convert almost anything to MPEG for (S)VCD or DVD I was looking for a quick and dirty solution for converting RM video to anything else that I could input into TMPGEnc (TMPGEnc won't take RM). I wasn't expecting much from WinAVI as it's obviously a n00balicious numpty tool for those who can't be bothered learning how to do it properly, but I would've at least been happy if it had done what it claims to be able to do, but it doesn't. It cannot convert RM video to anything. It converts the sound just fine, but the video? nope, there isn't any. So, for the one function it might be useful for, it fails miserably. All the other conversions I didn't bother testing at all because there are far better tools available out there for all of them. Don't waste your money on this junk, invest some time instead and learn how to convert video properly using TMPGEnc.

It's a great tool. It's very very easy. Even a newbie like me who looked at TMPGenc and said "huh...how in the gods world do u use this.." but this tool is great for newbies..i recomend 100%. Fast and easy solution for the money you are paying.

This is a quick and dirty little tool for making dvd's very fast though no menu controls etc it is super quick and requires no intelligence at all. cant understand the negatives ok its not tmpgenc but then what is?

WinAVI is quite simply the easiest and fastest encoding to DVD software i have used . ive used many different pieces of software for conversion and as far as speed goes this is super fast - aproximatly 40mins to convert a 2 hour AVI to DVD Vobs . TMPGEnc is better for quality but conversion times can be close to 3 to 4 hours , i have had nothing but success with all 50 of my AVI films i have converted so i dont understand why so many people have complaints . Ive been using WinAVI for maybe 6 months now and have no problems and would recomend it to anyone .

I was using NeroVision Express to convert Divx to DVD, it's pretty good, but the video quality is not very good. Someone recommended WinAVI to me, so I downloaded the trial version and did a few conversion. I'm surprised at the speed of the conversion and the quality of the output video. I didn't wait too long before buying it. I used the batch mode to convert my divx AVI, it took 3 hours for 5.4 hours worth of video. It results in VOB files rather than MPEG file, unlike TMPGEnc. I'm pretty happy with this software. I read other user comments, I think they are referring to old version which seems to have some problem. v6.0 seems to be pretty good. There are few features I would like in the future: 1. DVD Menu: currently the DVD created doesn't have menu, so to get to certain episode, I need to jump chapters or use title menu. A way to auto generate the DVD menu and/or some custom DVD menu creation would be nice. 2. AVI file order: when use batch mode loading multiple Divx AVI files, the order doesn't show up correctly. So 13 avi files, if select part-01.avi to part-13.avi, the order will be part-13.avi then part-01.avi ... part-12.avi. I have to select part-13.avi first and then shift select part-01.avi to get the order right. A bit weird. 3. DVD screen size control: Some converted video seems to be bigger than the screen size. So some subtitle spill out of the size of TV screen. Using the Vertical aspect ratio, I can get top and bottom size down a bit to show full subtitle, but there no option for Horizontal aspect ratio. Tried using clip sizing but it doesn't seems to work.

I use WinAVI to convert DIVX video to MPEG-2 or VOB for DVD burning. I tried TMPGENC (MPEG only) and NeroVision Express (VOB only) before. Nero is a lemon in this regard as it was unable to convert any DIVX file without crashing. TMGEnc (Plus 2.5) generally got the job done in excellent quality, but with (rare) crashes now and then. Transcoding speed was abysmal, typically around 18 hours for 90 minutes video (Pentium 4 1800 MHz). In comes WinAVI. Interface is much easier to use than TMPGEnc, but also much less powerful. There are only a few options to set, so I was quite sceptical at first. However, I was convinced very soon. Transcoding in highest quality happens in real time or faster on my machine now, so 90 minutes of video transcode in less than 90 minutes. The quality of the transcoded streams is excellent, I used a HDTV DivX source and transcoded to maximum quality VOB with WinAVI, burning the VOB files to DVD with Nero 6 (no transcoding, just straight burning the output of WinAVI). For comparison, I transcoded the same file to MPEG with TMPGEnc and then transcoded/burned the MPEG to DVD using NeroVision Express 3. Playback was on a Panasonic SG-75 using component (YUC) output to a 42" plasma screen. Even on such a large screen, I failed to notice any difference in quality. So, for a very low price you get a tool that is cheaper and faster than almost anything else and very reliable, too. You also get quite a number of other conversion options (to real media, wmv etc.) that TMPGEnc does not have. If you need to convert video files, this is the tool to get.

Great stuff, very easy to work with. You guys having problem with sorting, i.e taking CD2 before CD1, use the batch function and add one file at the time, then you get it in the order you want. Saludos BjS

I've been trying all kinds of tools and methods,TMPEGenc, DVD2SVCD, AciScript+CCE/+TMPEG, MovieJack (German tool)...etc. This is by far the fastest and best encoder compared to almost anything out there! (Except of course CCE, but THAT's a lot more complicated to use, especially DVD-Backups.) I tried all this with SVCD-format so far, don't know about DVD... Another great thing: It CAN read AviSynth-files! No more problems about ordering your VOBs, getting the right file size etc., SmartDeinterlace works!! Great performance, the resulting SVCD-files are almost comparable to CCE results and that on a computer screen! (1024x768...) Newbies note - for converting VOBs this way, 3 steps are needed: 1. extract audio and make .d2v-project-file with "DVD2AVI" (usually takes about 10 min to complete) 2. create .avs-file (once you got the process right, takes about another 10 min) 3. open this in WinAvi like any other movie-file, convert, according to WinAvi's instructions - enjoy! OF COURSE you need the relevant codecs installed. Combine "GSpot" for getting the information about missing codecs and MPlayerClassic to try out the .avs-files for 'readability'; IN SHORT: if you get your Windows Media Player (up to v. 6.x, NOT "9series") and/or MPlayer Classic to play the files, WinAvi will do the job, fast, easy and SMOOTH!

Ive had this a few weeks now, Im in PAL land and most DivX files seems to be NTSC either 23.xx or 29.xx FPS. I also have two DVD players that can play a NTSC DVD in PAL format. Right on with the review. I converted 7 files, each about 1hr 30 mins in playing length. Only once did this program have a problem and that was a sound sync problem. Ive had this problem before with the odd file using TMPEnc, especially if it is an older codec. The frame rates were all various, and it didnt have too much trouble converting from NTSC to 25 FPS. The result of these conversions were simular to what my DVD players do when they convert NTSC to PAL, a slight jerk in the flow of the frame rate every so often. Not a big deal really, but I have seen TMPGenc do files without this jerky frame. On this score I have to give it 8/10 Its as good as my DVD players. The picture Quality of the finished product im very happy with anyway. Hey its a hell of alot cheaper than buying two new DivX players! Im impressed with this so 10/10 here. Sound is no problem, except that on that one file that I had problems with, the problem seemed to be a sync problem. However, I really am blaming the file or codec on this one as I have said I have had this problem when Ive used the manual tools too. But I cant be sure so 8/10 here. Speed, well Im using a Duron 900, so it isnt built for the job. It takes my slow machine about 1hr 40mins to convert it. But what your left with is VOB files ect, all ready to go. This is alot faster than any other method ive ever tried! 10/10 Well as you can tell im very happy :) It tends to produce 3gb DVD files from 700mb DivX files, It saves me a heck of alot of time. great for me!

Great tool.Very fast video conversion. SOme reservations about quality but its acceptable.

Super Tool, very Easy,with Great Future. Amazing, ( divx 1h.30m ) 30m encode + 15m burn. Good Quality.

Tried this for same reason as below and have recently discovered the great NeroVision Express instead. It will encode videos to ntsc from pal and vice versa without any unnatural spells. Works about 90% (has warning) of the time and output for DVD is outstanding as opposed to this crap program.

I attempted to use the trial version of this program for one of the biggest problems I have - trying to transcode 25 FPS British-done AVI's into something an American NTSC system can run. Doing it with TMPGenc and other programs apparently involves removing and re-encoding audio, doing some pulldown nonsense, and swinging a dead cat around my head under a full moon. Unfortunately, the resulting transcode from WinAVI looks terrible. I guess I've got to start hunting up some cats...

This is by far the faster conversion tool, and the easiest one to use out there. If you are picky about the video quality and have alot of time on your hand, then u should try tmcpen). Although, the quality is not that big of a difference when I compared. If you are converting from a good source, then it will be great. Pro: Fast, Easy to use. Con: The order get messed up when u are try to convert multiple files in a movie. You need to rename it. It seems to convert xxx2.avi before it does xxx1.ave. No idea why.

Downloaded the trial version because features looked promising. I am so tired of using 20 tools for the conversion of one movie. I used it for the conversion of avi/xvid to dvd. Worked the first time. Hanged on the second time i used it. Now hangs at the same point every time. I haven't tried the burning option because i always burn with Nero. Cons: No Hyperthreading support. No multipass support. Some spelling errors in software. Displays wrong order when selecting multiple files. No advanced options like cropping and cutting files. Unstable, hangs. Pros: Looks good. Fast! Easy user interface. Idea is great. Conclusion: Promising, but far from finished.

Correction to my previous comment. When I said I had problems with AVIDVD it should have been WinAVI. Sorry. WinAVI has good potential I hope a future version will work for me.
|
|||||||||||||||
Very easy to use and very fast. That is the good part. Then I tried to burn the files it created using the AVIDVD burn function. I got a DVD that would not play in my DVD player or my computer. The computer reported a UDF error and said the DVD was an unknown format. I decided to try burning with Nero. WinAVI did not create a Video_TS folder which surprised me. I renamed the folder to Video_TS than burned with Nero and it still would not play in my DVD player. I tried viewing the VOB file with my computer and that was playable so it converts to VOB ok but did not make a useable DVD for me. I could use Nero to convert the VOB file into a DVD but than why bother using AVIDVD in the first place. For me AVIDVD was useless. Too bad - it has potential.

Trial version worked well so i bought it. It worked for about a week and now the program exits before I can encode; so now the program is virtually worhless to me. Even when it was working, the program often crashed. Virtually no support offered by manufacturer. Help screens are extremely deficient in information. When the program worked, it was very fast at encoding(50%faster minimum). Buy at your own risk

|||||||||||||||
Useless - I tested with small files. All was fine. So I purchased... ...Then I came to try large files (700Mb+) - I have had "division by zero" errors - not one success, when converting to DVD. I have asked for help from Support, but they don't want to help; I guess they have my money now, so that's all right then. ONLY BUY IF YOU ARE SURE IT WORKS FOR YOU!

Really, the worst kind of program. It's got a flashy UI that's completely idiot-proof, it zips through at lightning speeds, with no errors, then... at the end, the disc you get is worthless. I was looking at this because it supports Divx, Xvid, even Quicktime. But so far I've made two coasters, and that's it. $30 is a pretty good price for everything is claims to be able to do, but so far the program has cost me $1.50 in wasted media, with nothing to show for it at all. The most egregious thing of all was having to install a language pack in order to view the help file. Unheard-of.

I have loaded and installed V5.6 from winavi.com side just to try it. I've got one French movie (Divx - avi format). In a few clicks and 85 mins I have my movie on DVD. This is damn fantastic!!!! Conversion speed is the best. This is the best toy you can buy for $30 bucks! P.S. My OS is WinXP Pro - may that will help. Thanks
