VideoReDo TV Suite is the best piece of s/w I've bought and is cheap at twice the price. Quite easy to use, works exceptionally well, the support is responsive/listening/"supportive", the forums are active and well attended by support people and others who make kind suggestions.

Want to edit or play with video ... use this tool. It's being actively developed further, by the looks of the forums.

Great software. Fabulous support. Does pretty much what it claims it can - remove commercials, fast MPEG editor. But sneaky TV broadcasters appear to be modifying the way commercials are inserted into program material, ie, no or too few dark frames. The net effect is that removing commercials with software is, in my opinion, gradually getting less effective. Thus after VideoRedo TV Suite has scanned a recorded broadcast video file, manual touch-up is always necessary. But it is fast.

VRD can import DVD VOBs and turn them into editable MPEGs. Very handy for re-authoring home movies on DVD. Has a frame capture facility to create images for slideshows. VRD TVS can shrink large input program material (say 7Gb) to fit standard DVD but rendered result is not as good as say TMPGEnc. Simple to use authoring section. Love it.

Will say again: VRD support is excellent.

I had some HDTV Transport Streams(.ts) files, that had audio problems, and couldn't seek properly in any of my software players. I first tried MPEG2Repair, PVAStrumento, and ProjectX with no success.

The included "Quickstream fix" tool in VideoReDo, was the only tool that fixed my HDTV Transport Stream(.TS) files correctly, and also fixed the audio dropouts with no loss of sync. I also don't really care for the interface. TMPGENC MPEG Editor has a much better and faster interface for editing mpegs.

(Response to the chap who said VideoReDo doesn't work with TS files from the Humax PVR9200-T.) This is nonsense -- I use it almost exclusively with these files, and it edits them perfectly. I can only assume that he's using files from a Humax which hasn't had the latest OTA software update -- this sets the .ts file extension required by VideoReDo.

Been using VRD for about two years and it has not disappointed yet! Unlike the previous commentor I havd not found anything that it does not work on.

With so many different recording devices and methods I doubt very much if there is a software app that will work with everything.

Support at VRD is head and shoulders above the rest. Had the previous commentor worked with the VRD support team, my bet is that they would have made it work for his particular application.

Nice GUI, fast and great results.

This software does NOT work with the MPEG 2 TS files that are created by a Humax PVR9200T (a DVB-T recording in the UK).

It doesnt work.

There's a problem with this latest version (or with DGIndex 1.4.6/7) when converting transport streams to program streams - a lot of bad flag transitions end up occuring when the resulting mpg is parsed with DGIndex. This does not occur if you use DGIndex on the transport stream, or if you use DGIndex on an mpg created from the previous version of VideoRedo (2.1.2-417 is the previous version I had).

I was searching for an VOB file cutter to remove some bad capture from the beginning of a VOB file.

This utility turned up and it worked perfectly. No frills just quick edits and joins.

Fabulous utility for your video toolbox.

Fast and accurate mpeg cutting especially useful for cutting commercials. The commercial finding feature, 'Add Detective', does a very good job. GUI is easy to learn and very functional.

A very nice piece of kit! This will fix stream errors in files like what is produced by the Liteon 5001 and other inexpensive DVD recorders when you try to rip the discs. Those files can't be processed even by the mighty Womble Mpeg Video Wizard. Videoredo will let you know though that you can save a restreamed copy of the file as an Mpeg. It took under 10 minutes to do this with my PIII 1GHz. That file is now compatible with all my other software including the authoring software TMPGEnc DVD Author and Womble Mpeg Video Wizard. Well done!

This is an excellent tool. I bought it for just one reason: to fix mpg files that cause problems in other editors like Womble. When I would have a problem, I would get A/V sync problems. But using the "QuickStream Fix" utility seems to fix these problems. I still use other editors for most of my editing because this tool lacks some of the more fancier features. But if you are looking for a tool which has frame accurate cutting, this is the tool for you. Their support is also very good.
Someone mentioned that they did not think it support AC-3 audio, but I happen to know it does because I have used it on mpeg's from commercial DVDs which almost always use AC-3 audio.

If you are looking for a tool to cut out commercials, or to edit commercial movies to make them more family friendly, this is probably the best tool available. If you want to do more than simple cuts, and don't mind spending a extra time learning about all the features, I would recommend Womble MPEG Video Wizard instead (or in addition to).

As a LONG-TIME fan of Womble MPEG2VCR it was hard to pry me away from it but I have to say, with no exaggeration, that VRD is awesome.

Ignoring the fact that it does edit MPEG2 with no sync problems its the little touches that make it so good. Authored a DVD ISO image and forgot whats on it? Drag into VRD and it opens the video. That is neat. DVB-T streams over DVD 8Mbs max? Just set at the level U need for compliance. Joining same resolution MPEGs but with diff bitrates. No problem.

And if U find a feature you need. Mail the author. He responds unlike "mr Womble".

The only possible criticism is that the interface is perhaps IMHO not as easy to pick up but it doesnt take long and you need more buttons etc for the extra features.

Oh did I mention Ad-Detective? Or DVR-MS support... theres loads more. This is worth being on any videophiles machine(s).

SUPERB!

I haven't actually bought this program as of yet.
But I rate it a ten because I know it would be worth it..

I had a couple of recordings from my DVB-T capture card that was totally broken.
No program was able to fix all errors in my stream.
I got a couple of billion errors while running them through ProjectX or PVAStrumento.
And afterwards there would either be synch-errors, or he would make a cut in the movie wherever there was a problem.

Running my stream in this excellent application fixes this problem just like that!
I load my stream here and cut out commercials etc and just save it as an mpg.
Then run the newly created mpg in ProjectX, and I will not get a single error and all works fine and synch is perfect!

Other than that this program is very easy to use and extremely powerful.
This is the ultimate application for cutting your mpg movies in.
The cutting is very accurate, like other mpeg-cutters aren't.

The only downside I can see is that it doesn't appear to support AC3 audio?
I'm not sure about this though, but it seems that way.
I just produces no audio in VideoReDo or the output file.

But I don't have so many AC3 audio-sources so this is well worth the buy for me when my trial-version has expired.

This is the best mpeg2 editing software. I've tried just about everything else out there, from freeware to expensive trialware, and nothing works as well and as robustly as this (if indeed anything else works *at all*, for some operations). If you want to cut or join mpegs or DVD vobs without re-encoding, at either the frame-level or GOP-level, this is it.

It also has the best user interface I've seen. It's Fisher-Price ugly, but it works really well. You can actually see exactly which frame you are on, and whether it is an I-frame or not. And you can navigate frame-by-frame or GOP-by-GOP if you wish. For example, I've configured in my options to have arrow keys move by GOPs, and shift-arrow keys move by frames.

There are a couple bugs still in the software, but the devs are very active on their message board and quickly fix bugs uncovered by users. I wish other vendors had this kind of open-minded support.

Wonderful accurate MPEG2 editing. The main use for this for me will be editing DVD Recorder discs where TDA has converted the Vobs to MPEG; it has done this perfectly without any sync issues.

I have dropped a point for the cartoony style, but apart from that a highly recommended video tool.

This tool is brilliant! Whether for a pro or newbie this is a must have tool,it is extremely reliable and cuts video to perfection with great ease. Its sync correction feature is like no other software available. The tool is unique.
The tech support is the most helpful I have ever had the pleasure in contacting. My request was rather demanding but they were kind and supportive enough to fullfil it.Best support ever! They really do care about their customers unlike a lot of $$$ software companies.
Its worth every penny, test drive it and buy it and I can assure you that you wont regret it.Totally recommended!

This software is a required app for anyone doing video cutting whether it be from a MPEG2 capture card (WinTV PVR 250/350 for example) or for people that are messing with DVB streams. This is the ONLY app that can properly handle cutting of DVB streams, and in general is a joy to use. Very simple and well worth the money. Everything else is just junk after you try this program. It seems that the so called "professionals" in video (Pinnicle, Adobe, Ulead, etc) need to take some serious lessons from the author of this app..

VideoReDo is wonderful! One of the best software investments that I have ever made. I've been using version 1.6 for about 9 months and recently upgraded to version 2.1. It's even better. VideoReDo makes editing out commercials fast and easy. With version 2.1, ad removal is virtually automatic. Also, I often edit files produced from old VHS tapes and they can have "bad spots." With v 2.1, it's even easier to fix this because you can see a graphic of the audio stream along with the picture, making it easy to see how a cut is going to affect sound. I also love the new cut preview mode, which is a big time saver. In addition, the audio sync tools (both manual and automatic) work wonderfully.

This software is very easy to use and yet very powerful. I've used it on mpeg files from over 500 TV shows. I use it on a daily basis and have never regretted buying it. For the one time that I had a problem, the author replied immediately to my post of the VideoReDo website's message board and told me exactly how to fix the problem.

Really super impressed with this product. I have a ton of video that I recorded using PowerVCR II, and found out about its poor ability to deal with missing frames. With this tool, I can pass my video (in batches) through their "Quickstream Fix" function and all my audio sync issues are removed. The tool removes the areas where there is audio, but no accompanying video. My areas like this are small (maybe 30 frames/hour), so the removal isn’t noticeable, and my audio comes back into perfect sync rather than slowly slipping over time. I am quite impressed with this product, and the company behind it. During my trial period, I received fast email support with very understanding and knowledgeable people. These people have really done their homework.

The combination of price, support, and how it fulfills its intended functionality make it a real winner.
