Back in the day 10/10 maybe, but well last its sell buy now. Can't input h265,cluttered gui as it offers so much optionswise which can be a downside, buggy in some platforms, splitting feature is problematic too as is subtitles option. Looks great but looks are deceiving sometimes.

Used TenCoder and crashed, but this software Video to Video Converter delivered the goods. Great freeware! There's still nothing out there for free or even paid in some respects which gave you the amount of features in one whole package such as this did.

From my tests it has trouble working with Win10 64 bit platforms, but mostly works well in 32 bit versions. Win11 I'd imagine similar issues/instability. For freeware this was a tremendous program when you look at its features. 2022 and still very useful to have in the video toolbox!

No problems with using this software for me. I use it frequently on my Win 10 Pro 64-bit (build 1903) Dell Inspiron machine. Is it later builds that may cause problems? I wonder.

Interesting that some say it works on Win11, yet others have had trouble in Win10 after an update but some swear it still worked fine in Win10. This is pleasing to know as it is great software. I'm using it in Win7 mostly. I also use TenCoder as well and Super Simple Converter for great quality encodes.

Unfortunately in Win-10 Pro x64 it does not work any longer. When you try to start it several Access Violations in "NTdll.dll appear and prevent it from starting. I hope they can fix this problem.

I use it often as it is more poweful than the others.

I'm surprised this one ever worked in Win10 64 bit- maybe the portable version a few years back! But newer updates of Win10 tend screw up loads of programs. Good in its days back in 2013, and still useful now in Win7 etc or XP.

Big shame not similar programs like this around with its bounty of features. Avidemux is far too complicated for many, so probably the better option is XMedia Recode as a more basic video editor than it without the bigger learning curve. SuperSimple Video Converter is great for both video converting dummies too and the more advanced user, as it works in Win10 whatever update change mess up. Pazera MP4 Converter 1.5 is a fantastic freeware converter too with some editing options. Still some choices if one looks hard enough!

(Ignore my rating.) Although I hadn't used it in quite some time, I'm pretty sure that this worked fine for me through previous versions of Windows. But in Win-10 Pro x64 -- as of update 21H1 or 21H2 -- it is no longer functional at all. Bombs out right away with several Access Violations in "NTdll.dll." I redid the proper setup twice, but still getting the same results. If I am missing something here and you know the secret formula to get the program working normally again for *this* Windows, please PM me !

It is quite good but very dated from 2013. Upon close inspection I could find no 2 pass/crf etc or deinterlacing options. Limited and basic but might prove useful on rare occasions for video splitting etc.

By the way the last portable shows as version 2.9.6.11.

Though out of date, this is still one one the best video converters out there. I use it frequently. It is ahead of its years.
It would be without competition if it were kept up to date. Very powerful and easy to use and the price is right.

This is truly great freeware. And it works in XP to Win10. The splitting of files is easier than most editors out there(aviDemux is good) as said by previous reviewers. Such a pity not updated anymore. There's also portable of it which I prefer to use in Win10. Has a nice GUI to work with.

It's unfortunate that this is no longer updated because it is one of the VERY few video editors that is actually easy to use!! What a novel concept!

There are easy to find buttons for trimming video and merging videos! No silly "timeline" with unnamed buttons and multiple drag and drops and other such nonsense. Buttons that ACTUALLY SAY "Join Video Files" and "Split File". Imagine that!

It's also good for cropping video, can extract audio and/or video from a media file, and can even burn and rip unencrypted DVDs!

Best of all, it's FREE. Not a "free version" or trialware or shareware or nagware or crippleware... ABSOLUTELY FREE

I really can't say enough great things about this little-known editor. Download it now!!!!!!

Yes, it does need updating but, even with this short coming, it is the best free software and I would pay gladly if it could be updated. However, it will not. As is, still better than paid products. It works in Windows 10, for me, but, it is slow loading at first-then it functions normally. No problem with Windows 7.

Needs updating, but development has most likely ceased. I had quite a few crashes with it. The program needs an autocrop feature and like XMedia Recode has advanced features/filters eg denoise, yadif etc which if enabled and set wrongly will destroy a video's quality. No help/guide available or indication of default settings. Nice GUI and it is free, but there are much better out there like HDConverttoX which is superb.

Very well done AIO video app, the interface is incredible intuitive and it's plenty of options that allows the user to achieve really good results. The only problem that I found is that the split/merge of wmv files is not accurate at all, also an option to split in x parts would be nice.
Otherwise the program hasn't been updated in more than two years, really a pity, mainly because of the updates that were released in ffmpeg, lav filters and avisynth since the last version was released.

Before discovering this great product I'd been using DVD Flick and then AVStoDVD to create DVDs for any non-avi (e.g. flv and mp4) format files, but those programmes took so long (around 12 hours to create a full DVD) that I eventually realized that something that could simply convert the files to avi might be a lot quicker! Video to Video Converter is indeed a LOT quicker, with the conversions generally taking less than the actual play time of the file, so it's cut the time it took me to create playable DVDs down by a factor of five or six. And converting to actual DVD (mpeg2video), which can help increase the quality compared to avi, is pretty quick too. Plus there are none of the sound syncing problems that seemed to creep in sometimes with DVD Flick. It's also very handy for reducing the resolution of "oversize" avi's down to a size that's playable on a TV.

Overall it's pretty intuitive to use, but the instructions could be better, as some things require a bit of trial and error otherwise (for example, I had to do several burns to realize that the 16:9 option when converting to DVD/mpeg2 actually cuts off quite a lot from each side of the image, whereas the 4:3 ratio resulted in the desired full-width image. Counter-intuitive, eh!). I've yet to try out its other features and tools (I'm still using other rippers and burners), but for a video converter and DVD file creator this is the best I've found so far!

A feature that I discovered quite by chance is the fact that while it is encoding and the "Add Video" icon is greyed out "drag and drop" works. It will display the codec and format selection dialog just as normal and add the file to the queue.

This is just supplement to my earlier post.

Once any particular job is finished the software releases (unlocks) both the source and destination files. One can reuse them in additional windows without any problem. I used to find it a bit irritating that I could not add files to the queue but one can open multiple copies simultaneously. One needs to keep in mind that H/X264 codec converter is multithreaded and will tend to hog the CPU cycles. Unless your machine is powerful enough you might find all other processes really slow down. For this there is a very easy and effective solution in the form of a freeware software named BES available at http://mion.faireal.net/BES/. This too allows multiple copies to run. I haven't had the time to thoroughly test all aspects and features of the software as I am in the process of converting 5 TB worth of mpeg4(ASP)+AC3 video to smaller AVC/AAC. Will come back with additional comments if I have any!

I find this to be an excellent tool. The results are simply excellent. Over a period of tile I have migrated from Avidemux to Handbrake to the current version. I would have given it a 10 except for the fact that the user interface is not intuitive and neither is the on line help really helpful. I learned to use this after experimenting with several short video files.

Avidemux does an excellent job of resizing and sharpening with xvid-mpeg4 but is really bad at audio sync and handling X256 codec. Handbrake does a very good job but is bad at resizing, say from 1080p to 720p. This software does really well on both accounts. It also has sharpen filter for ffmpeg absent in Handbrake. Even single pass encodes are very good.

I have been using this for the past 10 days and must say it passes with flying colors. I do have to do some post processing like converting from mp4 to mkv and to add srt subtitle files using mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix. Perhaps this already has the same functionality but haven't figured it out yet. In any case it is a very small inconvenience.

I would give it a full 10 if they can make the user interface more intuitive and easier to use.

Excellent piece of freeware video converter with helpful built in tools like joiner and cutter, etc. Much more.

Imo, a must have software for everyone lest you need to convert videos to play on compatible devices. This video software is full fledged to my needs with its multi functions. Free, clean and easy to use.

Giving it a 10 rating cos i am very satisfied to have installed this freeware. Btw, i am dumping Super finally... All because of a better replacement! I have found it! I dont like Super adding to my id3 tags "created by Super" in the artist or whatever tag when i click properties on my converted media file. Totally piss me off whenever i see those redundant words in my tags. Furthermore, there is many doubts regarding the integrity of their product. The widely spread criticisms and rumours had make me turn away from this software. All the above are my personal opinions after comparing the two software.

Video to video converter website FAQ promises this freeware to be always free and i like their openness and transparent attitude.

Highly recommend this to all! Just install and use it and play around with this software to play your videos. You won't regret it!

Excellent as an encoder, I gave it a 9 because it could be add some options like "tune"; "preset" or "profile" (uncluded 10bit depth); some advanced video options like motion, rate, frame, etc... but the result this time was good as others encoders even if this software is most a converter than an encoder. Something like xvid4psp, staxrip or handbrake.

My thanks to Hose for the comments, but I have to confess that I'm not knowledgeable enough to understand this.

-> Your video contain x264 encoded stream so it is strange why you don't use a direct stream copy mode when converting to mpeg-4 format.

I have no idea what "x264 encoded stream" means. Sorry to sound stupid, but I just use what comes out of the camera.

Also, what is a "direct stream copy mode"?

Thank you.

The original size of your video is 1440x1080 so the native aspect ratio is 1440/1080=1.333 but display aspect ratio DAR is 1.777 (16:9). When you select "auto" as aspect ratio vtv assume that you want to keep the native aspect ratio. You need to select "keep original" to inherit a DAR tag from the source file.

The next mistake you made is that you convert to MPEG-4 part 10(AVC/H264) codec with WinFF but to MPEG-4 part 2 codec with VTV. There is huge difference in the quality and output size between these two codecs. If your primary target is the lowest file size consider using AVC/H264 codec and "Target Filesize" option, it works good for me.

Your video contain x264 encoded stream so it is strange why you don't use a direct stream copy mode when converting to mpeg-4 format.

An addendum to my last post: I tried it again with an older version of Win FF portable (1.4.0). I've uploaded the result here. http://edu-net.net/media/video2video/00000_WinFF.mp4

I had the program set on the second-best quality (very high). As you can see, it recognized the original size of the film (1440x1080), and the quality is about as good as Video to to Video at the highest quality. And please note the difference in the file sizes: V2v -> 470mb; Winff -> 112mb.

Just for the record, the very best combination of conversion quality and file size was done by the commercial program Corel VideoStudio Pro X4. You can't compare it, though, because - as I've mentioned - it's not free. Having said this, you can get the old version I'm using for about $20 these days.

I just bought a new HD Camcorder (a Sony HDR XR160E) and was very eager to try the latest version of Video to Video on my very first AVCHD movie. I'm sorry, but it's of my cat. She's twenty years old and a bit sick, so please excuse me if the subject isn't very interesting.

Here's the link to the original.

And here's the link to the Video to Video conversion.

I have no idea why, the the program didn't recognize the original size.

Dear afrocuban01,

Thanks for your follow up.

Please excuse me, but I read - and tried - all of your suggestions. I stand by my observation.

As for a 10, I think I made it pretty clear what my criterion for a ten is: that there's nothing whatsoever to improve.

In other words, no software, and basically nothing produced by a human, will ever get a ten in my book. After all, if it gets a ten, development stops, if you see what I mean.

In the end, I'd say it's a Weltanschauung issue rather than anything technical.

Best regards,
JoeG

I think that previous user didn't give us the original size of recorded videos, and didn't read my post thoroughly.

If he's kind to send me one of his original videos, as well as the same one converted with WinFF, I'm pretty sure I'd made the same one for him with VTV.

Everything else regarding this "issue" just doesn't sound logic.

I'm afraid the previous poster didn't read my comment all the way through.

I wrote, "However, even selecting the lowest quality didn't have any appreciable impact on the file size, which was uniformly too big for my purpose. They were all 6-7mb, and I need them to be 1.5-3 or so."

I guess I also need to repeat here that winFF did the job.

And just to expand the discussion a bit, today I received my new (used) Panasonic Lumix TZ7. It films in both AVCHD and MOV formats. Although I didn't test it extensively - just two or three one or two-minute films in each format - I can say that whatever settings I used with Video to Video to convert the movies to mp4 format, there were always artifacts. This didn't happen with either winFF or Video Studio.

I'll stick by my overall 9 rating. To put it into perspective, though, for a program that promises to do pretty much everything, I think this is an absolutely super rating. Giving 10 would mean - in my concept - there's absolutely nothing that could be improved, and this most certainly isn't the case. Realistically speaking, even 9 is too high based on my experience with Video to Video, but what the heck ...

In "Quality" choose "4-normal", or "3-Good", instead of "Same of source", for example. Or "Custom", than set bitrate. Just experiment. Easy as that?

Now, I think VTV deserves better rating from you now! ;)

Cheers

I use the video function of my ancient SONY DSC T10 to make short (3-10 minutes) one-shot movies of my students doing speaking exercises in my English class. On a given day, this can mean 5-10 little videos.

The camera output is mpg 640x480, and I convert the films to mp4 320x240, so I can send them to the students as email attachments. Of course the sound quality has to be good since the students have to be able to hear themselves.

After bringing the movies into my computer with USB, I generally just use winFF. When I forget to turn the lights on in the classroom, I use Corel VideoStudio to correct the overly dark results.

Video to Video Converter (I used the zip version) did the whole job easily and quickly. The fact that it does batches is great, and the built-in ability to modify the brightness, saturation, contrast, hue, and VOLUME(!)- while taking a bit of fooling around to determine the "right" levels - is a BIG plus for my purpose. The whole "correction" process was much faster than with VideoStudio and the results were just as good.

However, even selecting the lowest quality didn't have any appreciable impact on the file size, which was uniformly too big for my purpose. They were all 6-7mb, and I need them to be 1.5-3 or so.

In the end, I still had to run the four movies I'd converted with Video to Video through winFF to reduce the file size. This only took a minute or so, though, so the whole process really worked quite efficiently.

I have to confess that I really didn't spend a great deal of time looking around to try to find a setting that would make the files as small as I wanted.

All in all, I was very happy with Video to Video Converter. If I can figure out how to get the file size down, I'll be even happier.

No man, are you kidding? you can't blame new toilet because the sewer was clogged. Sorry but I hadn't such an issue. Split this .mp4 the other day without tinniest problem:

Just take a look.

So, it's gotta be something with your computer! I can bet you have a tons of codecs installed.

Did you try portable version?

This is beats Avidemux when splitting mp4 videos, audio/video sync perfectly....however there is this small issue of NOT knowing the "end" when splitting mp4! e.g. when splitting, if you drag the slider to the end (it's usually NOT the real end) as you can use the next frame > and it would go some more and if kept going it would then go to the beginning of the video, which is very frustrating as you would need to redo everything again. I just wish there is the "slide" to the end "button".

With Avidemux, when you slide to the end. its really the end of the video and it wouldn't go further and it wouldn't go to the start of the video either.

This is my 1st choice splitter (MP4 video) for now, 2nd is XMediaRecode (Flash/H264 video converter, keep original Flash/H264 video, but only convert the audio part to aac, this is the perfect tool) and Avidemux is my 3 rd choice (usually use it as a video player when everything else fails, lol).

This one rocks! No, really. It rocks! I can keep saying it longer than it needs to convert anything to anything. And above all, you can have it portable?! I mean, are we really that stupid that we're sold 99,99% of software that can't be functional as 0,01% as this one is?

VTV is one of the 5 best software of all time. Anyone who says something else is either paid to say so, or isn't too familiar with computers.

Oh, sorry, have to go. It already converted my .webm to .mp3. Really, not kidding.

A program that keeps getting better and better with each release. I just asked the author to add a demux tool and to include backward frame motion to match the forward motion that exists in the Splitting Tool.

Use Handbrake for mp4 encoding with all the goodies.

Comprehensive, but overly simplistic; e.g., no way to tune parameters for MPEG-4 H.264 AVC encoding.

But it is the only converter in the market which can merge cut without reencoding TS MTS MTS etc. camcorder & DVB Television videos without reencoding. Other softwares reencodes the file at the cutting and melting points. It can merge and cut these transport stream files without any audio/video sync problems!

In addition to being an excellent FREE video converter,
Video to Video includes video sharpening-color-contrast-brightness
adjustments; features not included in other excellent converters like
Freemake and Format Factory.

Just encoded blueray rip , on highest quality avi settings to check it out, very disappointed with results. Very blocky and not even close to acceptable (been encoding many years , just getting in before defenders start saying my fault for wrong settings - left them at default)
Was very easy to set up and use and has many settings to tweak, will play with them , but there are other freeware competitors that are as easy and have better results

This beats them all. I have paid for programs that cannot compare to this for ease of use and functionality.
Good parameter control and fast conversions. This one you should have! Excellent work guys.

OMG! VTV is probably the best video converter in the market today in both free and paid s/w. I have purchased many and tried many, but none compares to the versatility, performance, speed, and stability of this gem. For DVD authoring fans, this is for you. It can convert anything you input and produce a perfect MPG file that is acceptable by TMPGEnc authoring masterpiece. Best of all, no installation necessary. Bravo guys and you did a very good work on your first outing.
