- Added a new client adaptation for the WD TV Live media player, so it now displays full resolution photos -- and not thumbnails, when pulling photos from our media server.
- Music playlist support with WD TV Live devices has been improved so playback should no longer stop after a few songs.
- Added a new client adaptation for Samsung TVs, so they now display full resolution photos -- and not thumbnails, when pulling photos from our media server.
- Fixed a problem that caused all of the Philips Streamium network media players (e.g. NP 2900) to be displayed in TwonkyManager with the same name and icon.
- Disabled the volume and mute keyboard shortcuts (F8, F9, F10) on an external TwonkyManager player when the 'Disable External Control of Player' setting is checked.
- The installer now deletes both old and new style TwonkyManager desktop shortcuts.
- Fixed a problem where YouTube tags could not be unchecked or removed.
- Fixed a problem that prevented TIFF format photos from being viewed in TwonkyManager.
- Fixed a problem where multiple songs would get rated when a single song rating was changed.
- Fixed a problem where changing the name of a local TwonkyManager player was not reflected on other TwonkyManager on the network.
- To prevent problems that occurred when a user tried to install TwonkyManager without Administrator credentials, we now prevent this, and display a message to inform the user to install as an Administrator.
- Added the following new icons:

1. Nokia Home Music (player list only)
2. NOXON iRadio (player list only)
3. D-Link DSM-520 (player list only)
4. Twonky logo (server list only)
5. Red tablet icon (server and player lists)
6. Vodafone EasyBox (server list)
7. Red mobile phone (server and player lists)
8. Red laptop (server and player lists)

Known Issues with TwonkyManager 2.0.4
- When upgrading from a previous version of TwonkyManager on a Windows 7 PC, you may get a message saying, "This program might not have installed correctly". You can disregard this and should not reinstall using recommended settings. TwonkyManager installed fine, and you can click on 'This program installed correctly' to exit.
- YouTube user names are still not being properly saved. We're working on this issue now and expect this to be fixed in the next few weeks. You will not need to download a new software update to take advantage of this fix.
- The first time you launch TwonkyManager, it has to scan all of your media and import all of your playlists. This can take several minutes. During this process, TwonkyManager may appear a little sluggish and you may not see all of your media until the scan is complete.

Changes in TwonkyBeam 1.3
- Now available for the Google(tm) Chrome browser!
- Added almost 40 video links to our Sites page

- We display a laptop icon for devices without specialized icons. This default icon can easily be changed by right-clicking on it
- Fixed a problem on Firefox where the volume control did not go all the way to the end
- Fixed a problem where the Play and Play All buttons had a different shade of blue when moused-over

Known Issues with TwonkyBeam 1.3
- The Chrome version of TwonkyBeam does not include the ability to beam by right-clicking on the media item. We will add this feature when Google releases Chrome 7, which supports this functionality.

TwonkyManager 2.0.3 Release Notes

Changes

- Includes TwonkyServer 6.0.2, which has numerous bug fixes. (See below)

- Fixed a problem where some YouTube videos couldn’t be played on the TwonkyManager player.

- Improved performance when pushing video from YouTube to Samsung TVs or other TwonkyManager players on the network. Not all YouTube videos play on Samsung TVs, but it works much better than before.

- TwonkyManager now remembers which server it was attached to after shutdown and relaunch – even when a server is not running on the local PC.

- Now M4A files can be pushed to the WD TV Live box

- Now photo thumbnails appear on the WD TV Live box when pulling a folder of photos

- Fixed a problem that caused photo thumbnails to no longer appear on Samsung TVs when pulling a folder of photos

- The clear queue setting is now checked by default. This means every time you drag and drop a media item on a renderer’s icon it will play. If you uncheck this, the first media item will start playing and then other media dragged onto the currently playing device will be added to it’s queue.

- Now automatically assigns the correct icon when a “WD TV Live” is present on the network.

- Fixed a problem where one TwonkyManager could not control the volume of another TwonkyManager running on the network.

- Fixed a problem that caused the Twonkymediawatchdog.exe to crash or fail to restart after a crash when TwonkyServer was installed as a non-system service

- Reindexed the Shoutcast feeds to eliminate stations which are no longer available. This doesn’t guarantee station availability, but improves the chances of getting stations that play some of the time.

- Fixed a problem that caused the first item in all Handpicked video categories to appear as a folder icon.

- Fixed a problem that prevented personal photos from appearing in the Picasa Web media feed when the MIME-type was not lower case.

- Fixed a problem where changing the name of the local TwonkyManager player didn’t appear to other TwonkyManager users on the network.

- Add support for an expanded deviceinfo.xml file. More about this later.

- Added 40 new video feeds to the Handpicked Video list (not available in the Beta build. Will be in the final release)

- Fixed a problem where renaming a server with aggregation enabled sometimes caused problems

- Fixed a problem with the Compilation Directory setting only working the first time it was set.

- Dashes are now automatically added when you type in a license key manually. However, it’s still a good idea to paste the key in to prevent mistyping a number.

- Fixed a typo in the German language Server Settings tab (not available in the Beta build. Will be in the final release)

TwonkyServer 6.0.2 improvements

- File scanning of large libraries is now much faster than before. Over 20x faster than some previous releases.

- Fixed some issues with thumbnails on Samsung TVs
- Handpicked video stations are now saved
- Add additional MP4 transcoding options to allow better options for on-the-fly video transcoding
- Fixed one problem when scanning large content libraries
- Fixed display of BMP, GIF and TIFF on PlayStation3

TwonkyManager 2.0.2.15 – Release Notes

- Updated Media Server – Includes TwonkyServer 6.0.1, which has numerous bug fixes.

- Includes TwonkyBeam 1.2 – After installing TwonkyManager, you have the option to install a new version of TwonkyBeam, which includes the improvements noted in the next section.

- Media Feed Improvements

1. Fixed a problem that broke YouTube streaming

2. Trial users can now change some media feed settings or view personalized media feeds.

3. Fixed issues where media feeds settings pages appeared blank or contained incorrect options.

- Improved DivX Streaming – Fixed an issue where the server couldn’t stream some DivX videos to a ZyXEL DMA.

- Improved iTunes 9 Playlist Import – Fixed problems importing some iTunes 9 playlists

- Clear Queue Command – Right-click on any device icon to clear its playback queue.

- Photo Preview Fix – All photo thumbnails should be visible and will not interfere with music playback when opened.

- Auto Copy Fix – Auto-copied photos should appear in TwonkyManager automatically after pressing F5, without having to switch views first.

- Disable Local Loopback – Advanced users can adjust the Twonky configuration file to disable the local loopback address that TwonkyServer advertises on the network (e.g. 127.0.0.1). Local loopback caused problems with some Control Points because they would select the wrong address, and then no media appeared when browsing TwonkyManager or TwonkyServer. To prevent this, advanced users should add “disablelocalssdp=1 DLNA-1950” to the Twonky configuration file.

- Easier Server Selection – It’s now easier to select a media server when a large number of media servers are available on a network.

- New TwonkyManager Player Icon – All PCs running TwonkyManager now appear with laptop icons in the Now Playing section. You can change this icon to a desktop PC if desired.

- Now all custom metadata (e.g. photo ratings, keywords, descriptions) are preserved when upgrading from TwonkyManager 2.0 to 2.0.2

- Fixed some sorting problems that only occurred in Browse view.

TwonkyBeam 1.2 Release Notes

- Playlist Sharing – Access and play your music, photo and video playlists using UPnP and DLNA-certified devices, such as the Sony PS3.

- Video Playlist Streaming – Beam video playlists to supported devices like DLNA-certified TVs and TwonkyManager.

- Auto Filtering of Unplayable Videos – There is now a setting that automatically removes most unplayable YouTube videos from the Media List. This setting is enabled by default.

- Faster Switching between Videos – The Play button appears much faster after stopping a YouTube video. This allows you to move more quickly from one YouTube video to another.

- Improved Right-click Beaming – All YouTube videos that appear in the Media List can be beamed by right-clicking on their link and selecting ‘TwonkyBeam to.’

- Manual Icon Assignment – Although TwonkyBeam automatically assigns icons to all supported devices on your network, you can choose from nearly forty icons by simply right-clicking on the device icon and selecting Set Properties.

- Next/Previous Support – The skip keys now work for any TwonkyBeam playlist or queue. A queue is created when you play multiple media items in a media list.

- Installer Improvements – The TwonkyBeam installer asks if you want to close Firefox when installing on a Mac.

- New Media Feed Support – We recently added more than ten new links to our Sites page. The new sites include YouTube’s home page, Revision 3’s home page and its HD Nation and Tekzilla RSS feeds, as well as four new photo sites.

- New Device Support – TwonkyBeam now supports the following devices: Xbox 360 (running in Media Center Extender mode), WD TV Live and the Sonos S5 speaker.

- New Expiration Date – To encourage all users to upgrade to the newest version, this version of TwonkyBeam will stop working on 1/31/11. After that date, go to the Settings page and click on ‘Check for Updates.’ You will be taken to a page where you can download the newest version of this software.

- Improved Icon Assignments – We fixed several problems with device icon assignments, including the following:

1. All PCs running TwonkyManager are assigned a laptop icon. Of course, you can change this to a desktop PC icon if desired.

2. The Sonos S5 speaker is now properly identified and assigned the correct icon.

3. Added a gray outline around the icons for all Sonos ZonePlayers to appear when non-playable media is detected, so there is greater contrast against the white background.

TwonkyManager 2.0 - Release Notes

* New Name - We're now using a shorter, two-word name for all Twonky products. As a result, TwonkyMedia manager is now TwonkyManager.

* Free Upgrade - In the future, we'll be charging a small upgrade for major releases (e.g. TM 3.0), however, we're making this release a free upgrade as a way of saying thanks to our existing users.

* Content Aggregation - This feature allows you to see all of the media on your network at once. Manually switching between different servers to locate media files is no longer required. For more details on this (and other) features, please checkout the attached PDF.

- You can choose to automatically aggregate all newly discovered media servers, or manually select which servers on your network are aggregated.

- Aggregation works with any computer, NAS or other device running TwonkyServer (or TwonkyServer Mobile), as well as PCs running Windows Media Player 11.

* Auto Copy (Mirroring) - When Auto Copy is enabled, media from one or more aggregated servers is automatically copied to a selected media server on your network. This allows you to access media from your PC or mobile phone -- even if they are not available on your network. For more details on this (and other) features, please checkout the attached PDF.

- You can choose to automatically Mirror all newly discovered media servers, or manually select which servers on your network are mirrored.

- Auto Copy works with any computer, NAS or other device running TwonkyServer (or TwonkyServer Mobile), as well as PCs running Windows Media Player 11.

* Auto Hide Duplicates - When content aggregation is enabled, duplicate media files are hidden from view.

* Runs without Local Server - If you store all of your media on a NAS or Windows Home Server that has TwonkyServer on it, you can now choose to install TwonkyManager without a media server running in the background.

* Improved Performance - Now includes TwonkyServer 6.0, which includes numerous performance enhancements and bug fixes -- including faster file scanning.

* Other File Scanner Enhancements

- Blacklisting of Problem Media - Corrupt media files are now blacklisted and removed from the navigation tree so they no longer cause high CPU usage or other problems.

- Enhanced Time Seeking -- You can now seek more accurately than before with more media formats (MPEG, WMA and WMV).

- Improved MKV/MKA Support - Our file scanner now supports fast forward and rewind on these file formats for Samsung and other TVs.

* Includes TwonkyBeam 1.1 - Our installer now includes an option to install TwonkyBeam 1.1 for Internet Explorer, and a link to TwonkyBeam for Firefox. TwonkyBeam is first of its kind software, that lets you stream media from popular Web sites, to devices on your network.

* Video Thumbnails - You can now add thumbnails to any of your videos, regardless of format, by simply adding a JPEG image with the same name as the video. For example, if your video is titled movie.mpg, then your video thumbnail should be titled movie.jpg. The JPEG image must be placed in the same folder as the corresponding video file. Although a good size for video thumbnail images is 300 x 300 pixels, our software will resize the images for you if larger images are used. While you can use screen capture software to obtain thumbnails, the easiest way to get them is to do a Web search for images with the same name as the movie or video.

* Other User Interface Enhancements
- You can add a file size column to all text views
- Folder is now displayed in all video grid views
- Resolution is displayed for photos
- You can now click on the icon next to the server selector to view the Server Status page

- Flag folders that contain songs from compilation albums from the TwonkyManager settings pages
- We added device icons for the Teac WAP-R8900 and WAP-9500

* New Advanced Playlist Support (TwonkyServer only feature)

- WPL playlists can now contain URLs to Internet content (radio, pictures, video)
Users can generate their own playlists of online content to bookmark Internet radio stations, create slideshows from online services like Flickr or video playlists from YouTube

- WPL playlists can now be uploaded to TwonkyServer

* DTCP-IP push support - TwonkyManager can now push or pull DTCP-IP content to devices that can play it.
* Active connections info on status page - This allows to monitor active connections to client devices, e.g. to prevent server shutdown when a client device is streaming
* Enhanced user experience with some mobile control points - Integration with always on (stationary) NMC
* Enhanced album art support - For music album art per song rather than for the whole container is supported now as well
* In addition to the byte seek that is supported for quite some while now, DLNA media players can now use time seek on content for more accurate seeking.

TwonkyMedia Manager 1.3 Now Available! by TMM_Product_Manager on Sat Dec 19, 2009 1:01 am

We're very pleased to announce the availability of the TMM v1.3 final candidate is now available. This release includes the final release of TwonkyMedia server 5.1.2.

Known Issues
- "Rebuild database" now does a complete rebuild of the database. Metadata changed or added through external applications like TMM is not preserved. To preserve such data, please use the new backup tool that is included with TwonkyMedia or wait a few days until TMM 1.3.1 is posted here.
- You can’t change some media feed settings or view personalized feeds if you're running as a 30-day trial.
- You cannot push media feeds to Samsung network-ready TVs. Please use TwonkyBeam instead. It's provided as part of this download.
- There are some issues with networked drives and Windows 7. There is a workaround for these that I'll post here.

If you come across any other issues please send detailed information about them to tmm-beta@pv.com

New Features
- New SQL database - Includes TwonkyMedia server 5.1.2 which has a higher performance database than our previous release. You should notice faster scan times, better large library performance and less CPU usage than before.
- Facebook Photo support – You can now access your Facebook photos and your friend’s Facebook photos from any device that works with TwonkyMedia manager.
- Handpicked Video feeds - Like Handpicked Radio, this is a collection of video feeds that we've aggregated. Keep in mind that not every device can play all of these files.
- Expanded Device Support – We’ve more than doubled the list of devices that work with TwonkyMedia manager. You can view the updated list in the Help section.
- Trial users now have access to more media feeds (SHOUTcast, Photobucket and Picasa Web).
- Windows 7 compliance - TwonkyMedia server 5.1 has been tested by Microsoft against their Windows 7 compliance test suite and passed all tests. That means Windows Media Player can act as a digital media player pulling media from TwonkyMedia server.
- Compilation Directories – You can now enter a comma-separated list of directories on the Server Browser settings page that will force the server to handle the contents of those folders as music compilations.
- Enhanced Removable Media Support – When a new removable media device (e.g. USB memory stick) is plugged in, the server will share all media files on the device automatically. When the device is unplugged, the files on it will automatically be removed from the server.
- Background Transcoding - We are able to transcode media in the background whenever the PC is not busy performing other tasks. This is based on the same plug-in architecture we use for our on-the-fly transcoding.
- Device-specific views – TwonkyMedia server supports multiple views (navigation trees) for the same content. Now, advanced users can create different XML-based views for different devices.
- Expanded Handpicked Videos - The list of available hardpicked videos has been expanded.
- Option to Install TwonkyBeam – After TMM 1.3 is installed you now have the option to install TwonkyBeam v1.0.

Performance and Productivity-related Changes
- You’ll experience better performances with large media libraries (faster scan times, more responsive, lower CPU usage).
- iTunes import is 5x faster and uses less CPU power.
- This release installs and uninstall must faster than previous releases.
- View switching performance is better when the server is busy (e.g. when rebuilding the database).
- We’ve redesigned the Settings window (see ‘Settings Page Changes’ below for details).
- The media server responds better when very large (>1000) song containers are dropped into the playlist area.
- We’ve changed the way icons and renderer names are received from the network, resulting in a big improvement in startup times – especially on networks with lots on devices on them.
- We improved load times for Flickr photos.
- We expanded the number of SHOUTcast radio stations that we display.
- We created an “Add to guest playlist” hot key. Select an item, then press the Shift key along with the + key.
- You can right-click on renderer icons in the Now Playing window to change their name or icon.
You can type into the Chat window without first clicking in the bottom.
- Dragging a large container into the playlist section no longer causes the mouse to freeze.

Interface Changes
- We added "Album" to the navigation tree for music when Folder view is selected.
- The local renderer is anchored as the first device in the Now Playing window, followed by other currently playing renderers.
- Before, view selection wasn’t stored when switching between Manage & Now Playing screens. The state of each view is now completely independent, and maintained when you switch tabs, change views or close the app.
- We display a dialog during all file scan operations that better sets user expectations.
- We added an “Auto-display” preference to the new Chat window settings section. Unchecking this will cause chat messages to not automatically appear.
- A new buffering indicator is displayed for online videos.
- TwonkyMedia manager will remember the size of the cover art or metadata section in Album Art view.
- Pressing the Restore Settings button near the bottom of the Settings window deletes the Flash SOL file and repopulates it with default system settings. After pressing this button, a message appears saying that some settings will only be reset after TwonkyMedia manager is restarted.
- Adding a new media path automatically starts a content rescan and displays the Rescan in Progress cursor.
- We fixed a problem where changing the name of the local renderer on one PC running TwonkyMedia manager didn’t display the change on another PC running TwonkyMedia manager.
- We added a glow effect to the Repeat and Shuffle buttons to make it more clear that they are enabled.
- We changed the name of the Listen In feature to Tune In.
- We changed the name of the Internet Radio media feed to Handpicked Radio.

Device-related Improvements
- You should be able to pause videos streamed to Samsung DLNA-enabled TVs.
- We enhanced the browsing experience with Sony Bravia TVs. Users no longer need to select the content type twice.
- We fixed a problem where playlists sometimes didn’t play on the Roku Soundbridge.
- We addressed problems that used to occur when dragging a playlist of FLAC songs to Philips NP Series network music players.
- We no longer replay the previous song after a device fails to respond properly to a play command. Now, we just stop playback.
- We filter Sonos from the server list, since it doesn’t work with TwonkyMedia manager as a server. Sonos devices continue to work well as media players when you push music to them with TwonkyMedia manager.
- We added HP Netbook artwork to our list of devices. To select it, right click on an icon in the Play Here section and select Change Icon.
- We added a Samsung TV icon to our list of devices.
- We added an icon for the Apple iPhone to our list of available devices.
- We no longer display the Kodak EX-1011 in the Play Here section, because it can only pull photos from our server.
- We removed duplicate Philips Streamium icons from the device icon list.
- The currently playing song on a Sonos ZonePlayer is displayed in the Now Playing window, when a song has been pushed from another PC.

Settings Page Changes
- We redesigned the entire Settings page window so it's easier to use and fits better on small screens.
- We moved the Check for Update button under the License Key area of the Product section.
- We moved the Language settings into the Product tab.
- We added the server version number and number of songs, photos and videos files found to the Product section.
- We added TwonkyMedia Web site and Forum links to the Product section.
- We moved renderer-related settings to a new Renderers tab.
- We eliminated the Advanced Server Settings tab. All server settings now appear on one page. You need to scroll down to see some settings.
- Icons have replaced the old advanced server setting buttons. Mouse over a button to view its tool tip.
- We redesigned the entire Media Feeds settings page.

Other Changes
- We added an exception that prevents the dialog for the Windows firewall software from appearing upon first launch.
- User-entered Metadata Import - The new installer automatically imports all metadata from the TwonkyMedia server 5.0 database.
- We’ve improved our file scanner so it reads ratings from MP4 files.
- We fixed problems reordering songs in a Tune In queue.
- The installer no longer displays a detecting iTunes message when "Detect and use iTunes..." is disabled on the Advanced Install Options page.
- Closing the Preview window always stops slideshows, even when they are pushed from another PC.
- Entering a username with the German letter "ä" no longer causes problems.
MAC addresses are now stored in the log file.
- The dbdir can be set in the .ini file. You can also change the path for all data of the server instantly using the appdir <some path> parameter on startup.

New Features
- Follow Me feature – The feature allows you to transfer the currently playing queue to another device (or PC) in your home. This makes it easy to move from one room to another in your home without using your place in a playlist.
- Listen-In – This feature allows you to listen to what another person on your network is playing in TwonkyMedia manager. Once you press this button, it copies their playlist into your device queue so you can pause or skip songs without affecting them.
- Party-line Chat – TwonkyMedia manager now has a simple chat feature that allows users on your network to type messages to each other in the Now Playing window.
- Thumbs up/down rating support – You can now rate media playing on your server in the Now Playing window. Either click on the thumbs-up or thumbs-down buttons or press the “+” or “-“ keys. You can define how many stars equal thumbs up or thumbs down in the General Settings window.
- Guest Playlists – We’ve added a new "Add to playlist" button in the Now Playing tab. Pressing this button will create a new Guest Playlist on the users server playing the music.
- Auto-icon assignment and device naming – TwonkyMedia manager now automatically assigns icons for most popular DMRs. We’ve done this in a manner that makes it easy for users to add their own devices to this list.
- Shared device names – Once a user names or changes the name of their PC or other devices, this name is now instantly viewable to every device and PC on the network
- Improved Installer - Our installer now provides much better feedback on the media server installation process.
