Version history:
Version 8.0 build 3750 (released on October 28, 2009) View entire changelog * A new kernel-mode filter driver is introduced. This new driver simplifies the settings for recording in software mode and resolves some of the problems with older types of Total Recorder drivers. * Improvements to the user interface include the following: o A new skin engine. One default skin is supplied, which you can choose to use for many of the Total Recorder windows. o Total Recorder's main window has been redesigned, and it can now be resized. o The "Recording source and parameters" dialog and dialog for format selection, are restructured. o Many other improvements. * Support for audio files in Monkey's Audio (APE) format. * Ability to specify a pre-defined recording level for recording from a sound board. This level is automatically set when a recording starts and the original level is restored when the recording completes. * Enhancements to playlist operations include the ability to find duplicates in a playlist and to sort playlist items based on their track numbers. * After a system re-boot, Total Recorder’s scheduler now looks for jobs that missed their start time or were executing, and launches them. * Artwork is stored in Ogg Vorbis files based on official specifications * Other minor enhancements. This tool though cumbersome, isn't unlike the other screen capture tools in the same caliber (Tunebite, Snagit), but Total Recorder actually delivers excellent quality. It does use system resources very heavily, unlike Tunebite, but if you need to do a screen capture of a video and maintain smooth motion, good sound clarity and overall robustness in a product, I recommend TR. I did have some crashing issues, and a thermal shutdown at one point (probably time for me to get that chipset heatsink/fan or do something about my AMD 780G board which keeps trying to fry my Athlon 64 X2 5000+, but backs off (thank goodness!) -- so with my "processor power" maximum now set back at 85%, system seems stable.

Just got version 6 (been a user since ver. 4) and used it to transcribe some Audible Format books to MP3 at 8X realtime. The accelerate mode also works with WinAmp streams.

This tool is ideal for anyone wanting to capture audio from LP,cassette or even whatever you can hear coming out of your speakers. It has many configuration options to tweak, insuring you have the best quality capture. It uses its own driver and gives you the option of limiting the volume to 94% (-1dB) to help avoid clipping. You could choose the freeware Audacity to record if you wish but I find for the small registration fee that this tool is worth every penny.

I just thought it funny that this is in the "new tool" section. I've had a copy for what seems like 10 years now. It will record anything your PC is playing no matter where it comes from. First program I ever paid for.
