TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.2.4.68 - April 23, 2012 Hide changelog Improved (Output) Now supports Intel® Media SDK 2012 for Intel Quick Sync Video and the hardware decoders. Corrected (Playback, editing, filters) Fixed an issue where the application would sometimes freeze while playing a video on each preview window. Corrected (Importation)Fixed an issue where noise would be added to the audio when reading 20/24bit PCM audio via the Media foundation Reader. Fixed an issue where the application would sometimes freeze with when reading certain ISDB subtitles. Other Other minor fixes. Notice for users using the Intel Media SDK Hardware output: When the Intel Media SDK Hardware is set as the encoder in an environment where the Intel HD Graphics driver is version 8.15.10.2618 to 8.15.10.2656, we have found that some of the following problems may occur: The size of the output data set in "CBR" settings differ materially from the estimated size. An error may occur at the start of output; this error has been found to occur for both "CBR" or "VBR" settings. In these cases, we strongly recommend you install a driver version other than those listed above. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.2.3.66 - March 13, 2012 New Now supports MPEG-4 AVC encoding in the Blu-ray standard MPEG output format. In addition, supports file encoding for the AVCHD standard, which makes it possible to output an "AVCHD Progessive" stream in 1080/60p and 1080/50p. Because of this new feature, the following settings have been changed: Important: It is necessary to install the Intel Graphics Driver version 8.15.10.2361 or higher in order to enable usage of the Intel Media SDK Encoder for the Blu-ray (MPEG-4 AVC)/ AVCHD templates. The output stream type should be set as a MPEG-2 Program (VBR) or Elementary (Video + Audio) stream when specifying MPEG-4 AVC with Linear PCM. Added "Output stream type", "Profile & Level" and "Entropy coding" options to the Blu-ray standard MPEG file settings. The default state for the "Output bitstream for editing (Closed GOP)" option is now unchecked in order to increase bitrate efficiency. An AAC audio stream can be selected when BDAV (MPEG-2) is set in the Blu-ray standard MPEG file settings. Maximum video bitrate limited to 35Mbps in the Blu-ray standard MPEG file settings. (To reserve a margin for output, previously saved projects will be revised to 35Mbps if they exceed the new maximum bitrate) Added adjustment modes for each format in the MPEG-4 AVC Advanced settings of the MPEG output. *The CUDA encoder cannot be used for the AVCHD standard MPEG output due to the specifications of CUDA. *Please update to the latest version of the TMPGEnc Movie Plug-in SpursEngine before using it. (You can download the latest version from your User Account.) Improved (Importation) Extended the search range of the MPEG file reader in order to apply it to TS files which have the start point of the stream far from the point of the data. Added support for reading the S_VOBSUB subtitle format multiplexed in a MKV container. Added support for reading Linear PCM audio and subtitles multiplexed in AVCHD 1080/50 or 60p files via the BD Reader. Added new template options for the subtitle insertion, which are "Video frame & number of the edited clip", "Video frame number of the edited clip", "Time of the source clip" and "Video frame number of the source clip". Improved the decoding speed for Dolby Digital audio. Changed (Importation) Changed the compatibility of the project file. Along with this correction, versions 5.1.1.52 and older can no longer load the project files saved on this version or later. (This version can load the project files saved on previous versions without any problems.) When the QuickTime reader obtains the video format as YUV, the video will be handled as Compressed Range. Corrected (Importation) Could not correctly retrieve the program name and the details obtained by TS analyzing. Would not correctly load the BD output template saved on TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. Displayed a part of the video overlapped when reading a Type-1 DV file via the MediaFoundation Reader. An error would occur when reading a non-compressed YUY2 file via the AVI file reader. Could not read a DivX audio file correctly via the DivX file reader in a specific environment. Could not correctly read a video which had been read via the QuickTime 7 file reader and the framerate was changed in the Clip properties window. The Blu-ray/DVD/TS analysis reading function in the source wizard was corrected, and the following problems have been resolved: An error occurred when reading a specific TS file after the TS file analyzing. Took enormous amounts of time in order to read a file which contains invalid packet data. Character corruption would occur when retrieving ISBD-TS subtitles contained in a TS file. A part of the titles might not be displayed when reading a Blu-ray file which was saved in something other than NTFS. The MPEG file reader was improved and the following problems have been resolved: An error would occur when reading a MPEG-4 AVC file which had the end of the stream data in the middle of the file. Could not read the full length of a WTV file which has a large size at a certain level when reading directly via the MPEG file reader and not the source wizard. A sound gap or an error would occur when reading some specific files via the Windows Media file reader. A sound gap might occur when reading a specific file via the DirectShow file reader. Could not decode the end of the video stream when the Intel Media SDK software was set as the MPEG-4 AVC video decoder. Could not correctly restrict reading the maximum number of subtitle streams up to 9999 in the Subtitle filter window. An error would occur when reading a project file which contained over 200 clip registrations. Such file will no longer be loaded. Could not correctly read a xsubtitle created by TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4. When decoding a MPEG-4 AVC via the CUDA decoder, the bottom line of the video would be changed to a green color. Changed (Editing) There was a possibility that a problem would occur on certain players where the output bitstream for editing (closed GOP) will be always checked in the MPEG-4 AVC/MKV file output and the Weighted prediction mode (P picture) will be always set as "Simple" when the x264 encoder was being used. (The settings will be corrected appropriately when previously saved projects or templates are loaded other than it moved or selected to the MPEG output.) Corrected (Playback, editing, filters) Corrected the volume level meter to display correctly. Along with this correction, the lower value has been changed to "-40dB" on the meter. A SEH error would occur when seeking on the preview window while the subtitle filter was enabled or when specific MPEG-4 AVC video data was input. Could not display the subtitles of a specific TS file when seeking on the preview window. In cases where Direct 3D was disabled for the audio wave and the thumbnail display, the scene change detector function (with the center mouse-click) worked very slow. The Fast forward/backward on I picture option In the preferences would not work correctly. In the timeline mode, the height and width values of a text clip would reset to its default when the clip was copy-pasted. In the timeline mode, the clip length information would display the previous value even though the length had been changed. An error would occur when a large value was entered into the timestamp setting in the keyframe mark editor of the timeline mode. Improved (Output) Added Linear PCM 192 kHz/5.1ch and 96 kHz/7.1ch options in the MPEG output/Blu-ray (BDMV) standard MPEG file settings when the output stream type is set as elementary. Changed (Output) The x264 encoder engine (x264) has been updated. Added "full rate distortion optimization in all frames" option in the Sub-pixel motion estimation mode. If there is a difference between the 1st pass and the 2nd pass cached content, the cache after that point will not be used during Multi pass MPEG-1/2 encoding. Corrected (Output) Could not output a few frames of the end of a clip when the Intel Media SDK Hardware encoder was used. The value of the "normal number of frames in a GOP" option would be smaller than the automatically set value which was used depending on the resolution and framerate selected in the output setting. Displayed the Weighted prediction mode (P picture) option continuously in the Advanced settings window even though the level had been changed to Baseline. In the Windows Media file output settings, the peak audio bitrate value sometimes would reset to its default even if it was set manually. Corrected (Other) Other minor corrections TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.1.1.52 - October 6, 2011 Improved The Precision denoise filter accelerates much faster and reduces afterimages better than the prior version. Note that it is possible the filtering will not use CUDA acceleration depending on your computer environment since CPU acceleration related to the filtering can be much faster than that of some CUDA devices. In the case that the CPU is faster than the CUDA device, the CPU will be used. Reference Data: Input Source Info: 720x480 29.97fps (MPEG-2/mp2) 2229 frames Output Format: DVD standard 720x480 29.97fps (MPEG-2+AC3) Precision denoise filter enabled, "standard, strength 100" CPU: Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33GHz), 2 cores, 2 threads Encode time (Ver5.0.6.38): 7m 57s (when using CUDA GeForce9600GT: 4m 47s) Encode time (Ver5.1.1.52): 4m 52s (when using CUDA GeForce9600GT: 3m 11s) CPU: Core i7 920 (2.67GHz), 4 cores, 8 threads Encode time (Ver5.0.6.38): 6m 36s (when using CUDA GeForce 285GTX: 1m 31s) Encode time (Ver5.1.1.52): 1m 54s (when using CUDA GeForce 285GTX: 1m 30s) Precision denoise filter enabled, "standard, protect details" CPU: Core i7 920 (2.67GHz), 4 cores, 8 threads Encode time (Ver5.0.6.38): 11m 59s (when using CUDA GeForce 285GTX: 3m 11s) Encode time (Ver5.1.1.52): 2m 01s (CUDA not used) Improved (Importation) Some specific codecs that cannot decode interlaced MotionJPEG in AVI containers will no longer be used. This revision reduces the cause of the display picture being black upon entering the Edit / Filter windows. When reading a Blu-ray via the Source Wizard, chapter names can now be read. The framerate is now displayed for each title during TS file importation through the Source Wizard. Corrected (Importation) Could not get the program name when reading the file through the TS file reader. Could not handle half and full-size-space characters correctly when reading ISDB type subtitles trough the TS file reader. Would freeze when reading some specific FLV files. On Windows XP, it could not decode some specific MPEG-4/AVC stream that didn't have a notification of the end of stream. Took enormous amounts of time in order to read some specific MOV files when read though the QuickTime 7 file Reader. When opening a project file and a "could not find source" error occurs, replacing the missing source file would not work properly. could not work correctly, in case of replacing with other materials since an error occurred such as could not find a clip or other materials, and also such the materials includes a image file or specifying video and audio separately. Fixed a problem where video files read with the Media Foundation file reader would not display properly when fast-forwarding or rewinding in the cut-editor. The QuickTime 7 file reader was improved and the following problems have been resolved: Brightness changed from the middle when reading a MOV file made from the AVID DNxHD codec Could not decode in the correct order of frames for MOV files shot with specific cameras. A sound gap would occur when reading some specific MOV files. Could not open MOV files containing only audio streams. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 would freeze when reading an MOV file without the codec despite requiring the codec to play. The Source Wizard's Blu-ray/DVD/TS analysis reading function was corrected, and the following problems have been resolved: Could not correctly read specific character strings such as program information when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV). Could not correctly read data containing two or more STC sequences when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV). Would sometimes not perform correctly when getting the duration of the title when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV). A divide by zero error might occur if there was a lot of garbage data in the MPEG stream header when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV). Titles might not be included in the title selection when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV) which contains 50p or 60p video data. Upon reading Blu-ray (BDAV/BDMV) data, the operation might be overly intensive due to unnecessarily checking at the end of the file when reading the last subtitle data. Could not read only a part of specific BDAV/BDMV data when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV/BDMV). The thumbnail image in the title list would not be displayed correctly when reading a Blu-ray file (BDAV/BDMV). The MPEG file reader was improved and the following problems have been resolved: When reading Dolby Digital Plus audio, a memory leak would occur. When previewing Dolby Digital Plus audio from the file head, there would be no sound. When opening an MPEG file which contains several types of audio formats, they would sometimes not be reflected in the list for the audio stream selection. Would refer a wrong proxy file when specifying. Would mistakenly recognize the size as 1920×1088 when reading a 1920×1080 H.264 MOV file. When decoding AAC audio which switches the channel mode in the middle, a noise would occur at the switching point. When reading specific FLV files, the picture would become black and the time would not display correctly. When reading AAC audio which switches the channel mode in the middle, a audio gap would occur at the switching point. When the audio packets did not include audio-data in the file head, the FLV file reader would incorrectly identify the type of audio. Corrected (Output) The MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoder engine (x264) has been updated. Upon outputting JPEG files, the component Id within the SOF0 segment was not correctly marked. Could not correctly display the error when the commit size approached the 4GB memory size during encoding with the x264 encoding engine. When an exception would occur in the internal encoder, there would be no notification of the details of the exception. Depending on the timing, it was possible that Memory Access Errors would occur when starting multiple simultaneous encodes from AAC audio or FLV files as the source materials. Would output invalid files when outputting an H.264/AVC file using the Intel Media SDK encoder and the number of reference frames was set as "1". If the source file was an H.264/AVC stream with a multi-slice picture field, it could not be multiplexed into an MP4/MKV. Could not control the VBV buffer correctly when multiplexing some specific MPEG-2 video streams. When the baseline profile was selected for MPEG-4/AVC output, some advanced settings that should be fixed were changeable. When CUDA was enabled, the QuickTime file output would be choppy. A QuickTime file encoded as a MOV was not displayed correctly in some environments. The value of the average bitrate would change immediately in response to other numerical inputs even if it was changed in the encoding/bitrate settings for output such as MPEG or MKV. Changed (Output) When using the x264 encoder, the aspect ratio is now based on the 2005 H.264 standards instead of the 2009 standards since some players still cannot interpret the 2009 standard. Corrected (Playback, editing, filters) Noise would appear on a picture when the width/height was not a multiple of 16 when using the Precision Denoise Filter through CUDA. The Mask filter's (type: Blur) set strength value would revert to the default value when the filter window was re-opened. After selecting 24fps as the Deinterlace mode, an error would occur when the source aspect ratio was changed in the clip settings. The vintage picture filter was unable to be used when SSE2 or later was enabled in the CPU settings. Also, an error occurred when it was used in an environment where multi threading acceleration for filtering was enabled. In the subtitles filter, the characters would display at a shifted position when a specific layout setting was used. The mask when added through the mask filter would not be deletable by using the DEL key or specifying the unmask range. In the audio properties window of the clip properties, pressing the ESC key would apply changes to the channel mode setting. Even though thumbnail would be disabled, the high-speed thumbnail navigation would still work with the Ctrl + number keys. On a PC which had not been restarted for a long time, an error occurred at startup when trying to edit a project that was previously registered in the batch encode tool. In the explore view function of the timeline window, a sample format error occurred when playing a source with a width or height of 2048 or more. When inputting an MPEG-4 file into the Multiplexer(advanced) in the MPEG tool, the default output format would be MKV. Corrected (Other) A canceled job still remained in the batch encode tool when the tool was re-opened. When editing a long clip in the timeline window at maximum magnification, making changes to the volume level caused an extraordinary increase in processing activity. In cases where network hardware equipment had been replaced since the last license validation, a license validation prompt would be executed again. An deadlock would occur in communication between TMPGEncVMW5Encoder.exe and the main exe. On environments where there is an H67/Z68 chipset and dual monitors, the CUDA functions could not be used depending on the connection settings. In cases where the batch encode tool had been reopened from the taskbar, the tool would not accept the adding of project files by drag-and-drop. Even though the MPEG extension setting had been changed in the preferences, the setting would revert without being stored properly. Other minor corrections. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.0.6.38 - May 11, 2011 Added Possibility to set 1 pass in the x264 encoder when in average bitrate mode. (The default number of passes can be set in the Preferences window) Corrected (Importation) Some specific TS files could not be decoded by the Standard decoder (MPEG-4 AVC) and caused an invalid termination. The audio sampling rate would be twice the actual sampling rate upon analysis of some specific TS files. TS files having a faulty stream type can now be imported. Stream analysis would fail and an error would occur when zero padding was included in an AVC stream. MPEG-2 TS files generated by certain equipment and containing only I Pictures can now be correctly imported. The bilingual filter would not function properly upon importing through the "From a Transport Stream file" option. The ISDB standard subtitle display would not stop correctly when data said otherwise. When importing subtitles through the BD reader, subtitles would not display with the correct color. The thumbnail display would be slower in the Cut-edit window when a progressive source was imported through the BD reader. Hang ups and errors would occur near the end of a clip when using the navigation function in the Clip editor for clips opened through the TS/BD reader. Noise would appear on the right side of the picture when decoding a specific WebM file. Non-WebM MKV files are no longer imported through the WebM reader because some unsupported MKV files would cause an error in the WebM reader. Audio sampling rate could not be correctly retrieved when importing Type-1 DV files through the MediaFoundation reader. Correct video time could not be retrieved and an audio gap would occur when opening a file with variable sample timecode through the MediaFoundation reader. The MPEG reader would sometimes confuse normal AAC audio with HE-AAC audio. Framerate analysis could not perform correctly for MP4 files generated by a specific device. An error would occur when importing M4V files generated by specific software. A timeout error would occur when applying a filter template on materials imported through the VFAPI reader. File importation has been improved, bringing the changes listed below. Drag'n dropping a folder containing data other than a DVD/BD volume now displays the list of found supported files. When selecting several files, and the Source Wizard appears for some of the files, you have the option to exclude files that may be processed twice. When files are VOB/MTS/M2TS in a DVD/BD volume structure, you now have the choice to import them directly or through the Source Wizard. You can also elect to always use the same importation method without going through the new method selector window. When files are MTS/M2TS but not in a BD volume structure, you now have the choice to import them directly or through the Source Wizard's TS file importer. You can also elect to always use the same importation method without going through the new method selector window. When files are VOB but not in a DVD volume structure, you now have the choice to import them directly or through the Source Wizard's DVD file importer. You can also elect to always use the same importation method without going through the new method selector window. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.0.5.32 - February 24, 2011 Corrected (Importation) The MPEG-4 AVC decoder would not correctly decode when there were 16 reference frames of data. The VFAPI file reader could not correctly retreive the audio and/or video when several instances were used. The AVI file reader no longer uses some of the ACM codecs that would cause a buffer overrun. Can now import MPEG-2 TS files that some software generates without Access Unit Delimiter. Can now import the LATM AAC audio format included in WTV files. Correctly recognizes the bitrate from MPEG-2 Video streams with a broken or garbage-filled header. Does not hang-up when importing corrupted AVC streams through the standard decoder. Corrected (Output) In some cases, DVD-Video MPEG file output would output a GOP longer than the DVD-Video standard requirements. In some cases, the Blu-ray MPEG file output's maximum GOP size value would be lower than the Blu-ray standard limit. MPEG-4 (AVC) file output's YUV colorspace settings would sometimes be incorrect. An error would occur in MPEG-4 (AVC) file output when moving to the Format stage while the first clip of a project would require setting values out of the Level 4.1 range. * From now on, if the project header clip's characteristics require Level 4.1 or higher, the encoder settings are automatically rounded to Level 4.1 compliance. (ex.: In case of a 1920×1080 59.94p clip -upon applying Double framerate filter-, the encoder setting will be 1920×1080 30p. *Note you can manually change the Level and then set any arbitrary value.) When using the Intel Media SDK or the SpursEngine for the MPEG-4 (AVC) file output in interlace display mode, the resulting framerate would be seen as double than what it should be. When outputting in an MPEG related format, the encoder's Performance setting would sometimes reset to its default value if the Output multiplexer setting was changed from System (Video + Audio) to ES (Video + Audio) and then changed back to System (Video + Audio). Corrected (Other) An error would occur when applying the CUDA version of the Precision video denoise filter on a clip with an original or resized specific size. Subtitle playback timing and other related settings would become incorrect upon cut-editing a part where a scrolling effect was set in the Subtitles filter. Mobile and portable device MPEG file output template folder name contained invalid characters. Other corrections. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 Version 5.0.3.29 - February 17, 2011 Improved MPEG-4 AVC (x264) encoder updated. Added aspect ratio to the MPEG-4 AVC output (12:11 / 10:11 / 16:11 / 40:33 / 24:11 / 20:11 / 32:11 / 80:33 / 4:3 / 3:2 / 2:1) *Available aspect ratio options depend on the selected encoder. Thumbnail creation for PSP added to the output. (Added in the "Other" tab of the Mobile/portable device MPEG file, MEPG-4 (AVC) file output, MKV file output, and MPEG file output templates.) iPod/iPhone, etc. named chapter support. (Use the "Edit the keyframe name" option added to the Clip editor window's Cut-edit stage or Slideshow editor window's Preview stage's chapter list contextual menu.) Demultiplexing of MPEG-2 AAC audio multiplexed in a MP4 container has been added to the MPEG Tools. When outputting in MPEG-4 (AVC) or MKV, the source aspect ratio is automatically used as the encoder's default aspect ratio. Maximum bitrate setting added to the SpursEngine output in VBR mode. Following this correction, a warning appears when the maximum bitrate in VBR mode is 1.5× larger than the average bitrate. Added a "Clear history" contextual menu option in the Start window's Project history list. Added an encode progress display in the application's task bar icon when reduced. Blur option added to the Text's border effects in the timeline. When importing an MPEG-2 video, gets a more precise displayed average bitrate in the Video properties window. Added an "Apply a low-pass filter on the color channels" option in the SpursEngine file output template. (Enabled by default, disabling this option may reduce the outputted picture quality but increases the encoding process speed.) Corrected (Importation) An error preventing the importation would occur when pointing the source to a specific BDAV data structure. Updated the standard MPEG-4 AVC decoder, resolving the issues below: * An insufficient memory error would occur when navigating through the content of an MPEG-4 AVC source encoded into a specific method; * Some specific data would yield different results than the reference decoder; * The recognized framerate would be double the actual framerate and prevent correct playback when importing some specific MP4 files; * Video would not display correctly when importing AVC video from an M2TS file through the standard decoder; * Audio noise would occur when importing some MOV files containing MPEG-4 AVC video and Linear PCM audio. Reduced the TS reader memory usage. This should help avoid the appearance of an "Insufficient memory" warning when editing. Appropriately imports files without trying to use Picture Timing SEI data (data that holds the picture display timing) which some capture devices do not generate correctly. Updated the MPEG reader, resolving the issues below: * Analyzing 192 byte packet TS files would take a lot of time and eventually fail; * ISDB subtitles would not display correctly after navigating in the clip; * Some specific characters would not display correctly in ISDB subtitles; * Stereo audio from a DVD-VR source would be recognized as monaural; * Improved the reader to handle files with an abnormal timestamp in the MPEG header packet to the best extent possible. Playback would not be smooth for FLV files with a framerate of 25 fps, etc. Supports importation of some non-compliant FLV files. The application would freeze when importing specific MKV files. AVC streams contained in some MKV files could not be correctly demultiplexed. The displayed HE-AAC audio sampling rate would be half the actual data. The fast thumbnail would display a green border on the left of the preview with some specific source files. An insufficient memory error would occur when encoding content imported through the Media Foundation file reader. Corrected (Output) Corrected issues below related to the Intel Media SDK output: * The outputted file's profile would be High when using the hardware encoder; * When encoding in MPEG-4 AVC, levels that cannot be used by the standard (Level 5 / 5.1) would display anyway; * For the PSP, files encoded through the software encoder using the "Somewhat slow" Performance option would not playback correctly on a PSP. Corrected issues and improved the SpursEngine file output as below: * An "Incorrect parameter" error would occur when performing a series of commands in a given order; * Can no longer encode output with less than 4 frames as per the SpursEngine hardware specifications. When outputting a file with less than 4 frames, the last frame is duplicated until the total length reaches 4 frames and is then outputted Corrected issues and improved the MPEG file output as below: * No longer displays non-standard compliant motion search methods (Exhaustive search, Hadamard exhaustive search) and the "Weighted prediction mode (P Picture)" option when encoding video in interlace mode with the x264 encoder; * When outputting chapters in MPEG-4 (AVC), a first chapter at 0 timestamp is automatically added to the list; * Unusable channel structures were displayed when using the MPEG-4 (AVC) or MKV file outputs; * In the MPEG file output, enabling the "Start closed GOP with a B Picture" option would sometimes result in the appearance of an "Invalid MPEG-Video stream" error depending on certain other settings; * In the MPEG file output, changing the encoder changes the "Maximum number of frames in a GOP" option from 0 to 1023; * In the MPEG file output, among others, changing the average bitrate setting in the Bitrate calculator now also changes the Maximum bitrate value; * When selecting the Blu-ray standard MPEG file output, an invalid parameter error would occur due to non-processable settings. When encoding in AAC audio, a 1 block/1024 sample delay would occur. When an unexpected error forcing an abnormal ending of the encode occurred, a memory accsess error would then occur and the display would be affected. Corrected (Other) Corrected issues and improved NVIDIA CUDA support as below: * CUDA would not be usable when the host computer tries to use both CUDA and the Sandy Bridge internal GPU at the same time; * Processing the Mosaic filter through CUDA would turn the tiles into green or blackish colors; * When using the CUDA encoder, enabling the prefetch cache would make the encode process slower than when disabled; * CUDA related warnings or messages would display when starting the encode process; * Changed the CPU and CUDA usage rate displayed during the encode process. The CUDA usage rate now appears only when CUDA is actually enabled. * CUDA performance optimization is now strictier. (With this correction, the performance optimization may take slightly more time than before.) Corrected issues and improvements in the Cut-edit, Filters and Timeline windows as below: * An incompatibility would occur for the "Vintage", "Sharpness", and "Smart sharpness" filters when combined with CPU settings that cannot use SSE2 or higher optimizations; * Application would freeze when applying a Filter template containing a "Sharpness" filter setting; * When an error would occur during clip editing, the Clip list item's "X" (Delete) button would not function anymore; * A timeout error would occur when using the "Precision video denoise" filter with CUDA enabled, and could not be used. Also, its default Strength setting is now 100 instead of 300; * In the "Speed" filter, enabling the "Apply Anti-flickering filter to interlace picture when necessary" option would actually apply the Anti-flickering filter even when not necessary; * The audio waveform display would not entirely be consistent with our previous software; * The navigation icon and speed meter would not display when using the "Mask" filter; * When setting the preview navigation keyboard control to the "% scrollspeed" unit in the Preferences, the scrolling would not occur correctly in the Clip editor window when the scroll commands were used; * When using filters (Color correction, Subtitles) in Timeline mode, the effect would be displayed twice in the preview; * Upon moving the preview size slider in the timeline, the mouse wheel would not function anymore on the navigation bar or audio volume slider. Updated the Batch encode tool, resolving the issues below: * Upon stopping the batch processing, and re-starting it, the batch processing would suddenly cancel itself; * When iconifying the Batch encode tool, its icon would still appear in the Task bar even when the iconification preference was set to "Display only in the task tray"; * The batch list information would not update when updating a batch from the main application in linked mode; * In the Project editor window, entering an invalid output file name would cause an invalid character string error even when clicking the "Cancel" button. The encoder preview display would not update during the encode. Setting a keyframe at a timestamp position more than 2 hours in the timeline could not be possible. In the Clip editor window, the thumbnail now updates when adjusting the thumbnail display and using the navigation keys or during the scene change detection. Other corrections. In addition to the high image quality MPEG-1/2 output of the worldwide appraised, highly featured original "TMPGEnc Advance MPEG 1/2 Encode Engine", the H.264/AVC output uses the X264 high quality encode engine, the same encoder that YouTube, Facebook and many other websites have chosen for their video processing. Combining the Pegasys proprietary technology with the x264 high quality functions and numerous detailed parameters, we provide the user with the highest quality. H.264 CUDA Encoding! NVIDIA CUDA H.264 Encoding. Not Just for Filtering Anymore. In addition to CUDA-enabled filter processing and decoding, TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 supports H.264/AVC file output using the CUDA technology provided by NVIDIA. The CUDA technology makes use of the GPU (graphic board CPU) with multi-core parallel processing to process complex calculation problems in a short time. By splitting the processes into parallel elements, and using the massive processing power, the program can run even more effectively. Using this function with a compatible graphic board improves processing acceleration when compared with CPU-only use in most cases. Intel® Media SDK H.264 Encoding and Decoding. Sandy Bridge Support. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 also uses the Intel® Media SDK (2.0) to encode and decode H.264 content. This function, which will use the new Intel Sandy Bridge micro-architecture embeded in CPUs that are planned for release in the begining of 2011, enables hardware support of the encoding and decoding process. Tests conducted with TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 showed an acceleration of almost 5 times faster when using the SDK compared to a Core i7. Check out the full benchmarks! I have been using TVMW5 since it was released, and I have to admit that I am not having anywhere near the issues others seem to be having with it, or that I had with its predecessor. The only thing that stopped me from making it my primary tool was the lack of an AVC template for Blu-Rays. I attempted to take my favorite Blu-Ray preset from MeGUI and try translating it to TVMW5, but I soon lost patience. Now that Pegasys has finally seen the light and decided to give us AVC options for Blu-Ray, it's back in my good graces. I will be giving it a strenuous test in the near future, and if it passes, my time with MeGUI will be drawing to a close.

I've been using this software for a month now and the CUDA encoding works fine on my Samsung i5 Laptop. After using StaxRip and Handbrake for encoding x264 videos TVMW5 is by far the worst when it comes to comparable outputs in terms of video quality to the other software I mentioned. The deinterlace filters are not as good as the Yadif deinterlacer. I don't know why TMPGenMW5 continues to use their own version, all I get from dvd conversions are jaggy lines around sharp objects. When using Handbrake or Staxrip the edges are sharper and no jaggies at all. Lastly the video quality is noisy with artifacts and overly soft. The files sizes are much larger than the other software products even when using the exact same compression settings. This product needs help.

Tried the updated version on some Hauppauge 1212 transport streams I captured in 1080i to convert to Matroska. Results were terrible. When I forwarded through the completed video using VLC there was very visible tearing and when played in normal speed the video was jerky making actor's motions look animated rather than fluid. I normally use HDConvertToX to convert transport streams to Matroska with excellent results, and it looks like I'll continue with that program until TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works gets this problem sorted out.

after trying TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 demo for a week, i finally decided to buy it. mainly for x264 support and the ease of editing.(light editing) if you have dual vga setup ati+nvidia for cuda.cuda support will not work for now, hopefully will work in the future as version 4 works just fine.

In continuation with last comment... Further more, if you inspect inner frames, some frames get damaged as well while compressing it too much. Now most of the time I use Lagarith or HuffYUV.

I upgraded from TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to Mastering Works 5 since it is supposed to incorporate the x264 encoder and I'm very impressed with the x264 results. However, I am underwhelmed with the x264 output from Mastering Works 5. The output file becomes very pixelated and jerky when I forward through it. As a comparison I encoded the same file with TMW5 and VirtualdubMod using x264vfw with the same bitrate and found x264vfw produced a smooth sharp output while TMW5 was considerably less impressive.

I've been using the demo version for a little over a day now, and I can safely say that this is a quantum improvement over TE4XP. As soon as I get the chance, I'm going to upgrade to the full version. My only issue is that they still only have an MPEG-2 Blu-Ray preset, but I suspect it shouldn't be too hard to translate one of MeGUI's H.264 Blu-Ray presets. Also, the CUDA encoding option is nice, but I'm still not sure about how Blu-Ray-friendly the settings are. Other than that, it's definitely a keeper.

Easy to use, great results, accepts pretty much anything out there and can output 1080p WMV with 5.1 audio!

Very good program and the color correction filter is the best I've found yet. Pretty bad that the new versions require crap framework. And there's no data available on which is the last version that does not.

This releases supports CUDA under G92 based video card fine (8800 GT are supported). Unfortunately G80 based card are not (8800GTS/GTX/Ultra). I think the developer used compute capability 1.1 leaving G80 cards out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia ... Features_3 My video card is a 9800GX2 running ForceWare 178.24 under Vista x64. My CPU is an Intel quad Q6700. The mobo uses Intel IP35 chipset. CUDA support could be useful for some filters but not for every situation out there. For example when I enable the hardware video decoder, decoding 720x480 MPEG2 videos is slower. Some filter combinations are faster when using CUDA, so you need to try what´s faster depending on what you are doing and the hardware you have. My 9800GX2 is great for games, but for CUDA it is only marginal better than a 8800 GT

Well, as it turns out, you must use the latest CUDA-enabled video driver (178.08), which you can get from nVidia. Also, You must have either a 98xx or 2xx series nVidia card for the CUDA options to work with this build of TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress. That rules out a lot of people with 88xx cards.
|
|||||||||||||||
Previous versions worked flawlessly. If you activate CUDA with the most recent nVidia drivers (180.42), it crashes non-stop on any type of encode.

been using tmpeg products sense mpeg-1 was the de-facto. and the reason i STILL use thire products is it give excellent results, does auto aspect conversion and my videos to this day and version always had proper a/v sync
|
|||||||||||||||
it is the fantastic video converter with editing functions but it need codecs to be installed for opening many video files like mkv,rm,mov,avi etc so it will be better if it will have all codecs built in to open all kind of video files

This is one of the best programs i tested. Only reason i give it a bit low numbers is the conversion for psp do not work so well. The file will not play on my psp. Only way it could play was with mpeg but i wanted to use AVC which has superior quality. I tested "mp4 converter" from http://www.mp4converter.net/ and it works like a charm for psp conversion. Funny thing is the file created with mp4 converter plays perfect on psp but not my mediaplayer classic :) (plays fine in windows media player but without sound) I'm getting a bit dizzy with all new programs and works halfway. My suggestion is to use TMPGEnc for normal encoding and mp4 converter for psp purpose.

actually was using "super" before this and quality comparison is a total joke with "super". tmpgenc xpress4 encoded an hd uncompressed avi to wmv8 and the quality is sharp and very clean. I have yet to try other conversions but have been impressed with TMPGEnc all across the board. There are so many to choose from but always come back to this company's software.

I use version 3.0 and I have to say that this is the best encoding software that I have ever used, I don't like version 4.0 because I had a lot of problems with Lame MP3 audio codec. But overall this is really the best I recommend it to everybody.

I have used TMPG 2.5 for a very long time and decided to try out XPress 3.0 when it came out. I was very happy with it for speed and very decent quality. After a few updates it was even able to handle my raw HDTV transport streams! I even bought the AC3 pluggin that works very well because I was so happy with it. The only real flaw I found was that I would have to remux the audio because it would be out of sync after encode. I think its just a matter of an update to have the program compensate for the audio delay. So I would demux the audio before encode and use the cute little delay box they provide to set the delay Example: (-765). It works great! XPress 3.0 doesn't have as many options as TMPGenc 2.5 and isn't as clean an encode but for a good fast encode it is well within reasonable parameters. And when I say fast I mean 3X's faster than 2.5! But this "comment" is supposed to be about TMPG XPress 4.0. When I decided to upgrade to XPress 4.0 I thought I would see more/faster/better rather than less/slower/worse. 4.0 no longer accepts Raw HDTV transport streams. It crashes every time. A real disappointment. I have tried to contact their technical support on the problem several times and have not received any response. It's been a month and 6 technical support e-mails on the form they provide and to direct e-mails to previous technical support responses. I am sure it is fine with dvd encodes using non-HD sources but that's not the direction I was going... Either way, I am back to using XPress 3.0 for the "fast" encode and TMPGEnc 2.5 with Virtual Dub and Avisynth if I really want to do it right!

The best feature for me is the video fade filter. Both sharpen filters are useless compared to TMPGEnc 3.0 XPress. I am still in the learning stage but 4 seems a lot slower than 3 with the same basic settings. Not sure why. Nice interface and layout with smooth manual file scanning. I hope the manufacturer replaces the sharpen filter with the previous version.

Got the trial yesterday. Haven't had 1 file that would play after encoding .mp4 or Quicktime using Tmpgenc express 4.0. I have the latest Quicktime pro.
|
|||||||||||||||
Now does include AC3 2 channels out of the Box Still NO support for more than 2 audio channels To decode quick time you will need Quick time 7.x or later. I need to validate if I need to upgrade to this version of Quick time to be able to decode ACC audio. Embedded DivX codec seems promising. At least all features of the version 3.0 are still supported. I cannot comment on rendering quality yet, but so far so good. I have tested some of the filters and there are a few new good quality options, but virtualdub is still the king in this area. The new filters are very useful for simple corrections though. MPEG Tools are still the same as the old one found in version 3.0 The killer feature for me was MP4 and ACC support. I will test all these features over the weekend.

I purchased this not too long ago after trying it out, but I only recently started getting into it a lot more. I'd been fighting with TMPEnc Plus for doing downconversions from ATSC to DVD. Somehow, despite using most of the tricks out there to tweak the output, it still didn't look as good as I'd hoped. Now, with Express, I finally have a way to preserve most if not all of the original HD goodness without tweaking things. My first project with Express was this week's episode of "24," and I have to say that if it looks as good on an actual TV as it does on my computer monitor, I'll be uninstalling 2.5 Plus very soon. For me the lack of 5.1 AC3 handling is not an issue, since I demux and render the unedited MPEG-2 stream first, then mux it with the corrected audio, then editing in DVD Author (unless I need titles and transitions; then I take it into MediaStudio Pro 7.5). It would be nice to have 5.1 support so that I could do cuts-only editing with audio for commercials, but I have a workaround for that too (edit the original TS in FusionHDTV's cut mode and fine-tune in DVD Editor or MSP 7.5).

BIG disappointmet. After using TMPgenc 2.5,on trial, and reading that XPress was based on their "Famous" original encoder I bought the Xpress, not the Orignal. MISTAKE! It is NOT like their original, even they admitted to me it's a different "engine". Quality output is typically 12--15% lower than TMPGENC 2.5. I bought the TMPGenc original for 37 bucks,and extremely happy with it.(give that one a 10+ ) Express useful for making/compiling titles.

Don't bother... NO AC3 support without BUYING the plugin NO support for more than 2 audio channels I'd like to be able to say what a great piece of software this is, because Pegasys usually make some of the best around. This time they just seem to have become greedy and careless. Why on earth would I want to PAY MORE to encode my video in AC3 when my equipment recorded it in AC3 in the first place and plenty of other programs seem more than able to handle it? Shame on you Pegasys, take this piece of chalk and write on the blackboard 200 times "I must not BITE the hand that FEEDS me"
|
|||||||||||||||
The reasonable way to handle the xvid problem, is either to frameserve via virtaul dub or make an avs-script for avisynth. If you have enough hard drive space (like I do), you can also encode the xvid source to uncompressed avi. TMPGXpress reads that fine and without jerkiness. What I love about TMPGXpress is its ability to transfer any framerate into another without much compication. I have tried that a lot of times and never had any sync problems. Of course this is not a hq transfer but does suffice.
