Convert avi output via super ... or for more control on final mpeg1 / mpeg2 output , use bbmpeg instead .

For all you that have complained about the need to remove effect's , ect ... one at a time , that's not correct .

In the upper window is you file list , drag this to ... say where name's are shown .

To remove all name's , sellect top file , grab slider to right and drag down till you see last file ... hold down shift key and click last file ... all file's are highlighted .

Now go to where name of file is listed down below ... it should have the first file's name listed , as it was the first we clicked on .

Highlight the name , hit del ... over to right , hit update button .

Bingo ... all name's are gone .

This is also how effect's are removed in one go ... this can be applied to all listed function's shown in the upper file listed window ...

Work's under win98 , win98se , winme , winxp (all version's) and winnt 2000 ...

While it appears straight forward to use, and seems to have quite an array of effects, it's limitations reduce it's usability substantially (only wav audio, 2GB file size max) and it seems to have a couple of bugs, that for me at least, meant that I could only run it once. After that every attempt to create a slideshow resulted in an error about missing transitions - even though I picked them from the list. Those who get it working seem to like it, but I have moved on.

Can't make a second slideshow due to program freezing when selcting 'video codec' the 2nd time. Happens constantly.

Seems to be incredibly slow making output file.
4 pictures with motion zooming in just 1 of them was stated to take 2 hours to complete. Windows Photo Story 3 (also free) would do this in sevral minutes (unfortunately in wmv format)

I can live with having to restart the program after I finish a slideshow, but the slow output is a killer.
2GB limit also needs to be eliminated.

Program looks like it would be a great tool if the speed & file size limit could be addressed.

This is a great and easy to use tool to make superb slideshows and use effects u get nowhere else, like raindrops. I love it. The only disadvantage is that it is really slow. Even on a hq pc it still needs hours for complex slideshows, depending of course on what u want.

If this could export directly to mpg-1 and mpg-2, it would be perfect. Other than that this tool is easy to use and creates great slideshows. I then convert with TMPGenc and burn to DVD.

Here's a download link that works, since the main one seems to be broken.

re comment by trock with regard to there being no way to remove all titles at one go. Try "select all" then go to title edit window, highlight whatever is in there and hit delete. This should remove all titles.

You don't have to do each title separately! Just select all slides, delete the title for that slide and hit Update - job done.

On another note, the download does seem to be non-functioning at the moment, hope it hasn't been abandoned.

This could have been a very useful program but it tries to put a title on every photo. It lets you take them off but you have to take each title off each photo one at a time. When you're dealing with several hundred photos it's not workable. It needs a "remove all titles" option.

I was struggling with Ulead Media Studio (commercial program)
trying to produce a musical slideshow and was getting
practically nowhere. That program is just too clumsy and
buggy to fool around with for very long.

SSMM was a breath of fresh air to me. Very easy to use and
does exactly what I need it to do. For freeware, the quality
of the program and the results it produces are astounding.
I think the author, Joern Thiemann, deserves your money far
more than Ulead does.

An earlier poster gave up on the program because SSMM
couldn't load a video codec. I too have run into this
situation -- it is the only "bug" I have run into so far.
What causes it is a mystery to me, because it simply went
away after I restarted my project from scratch under a
different name.

When I click "Choose Video Codec" it says "Error! Please use another codec!" Well, I would if it would let me choose one in the first place! Bye SSMM! Junk!

Just a note to ln108, you can use VFW DV codecs and Huffy, you just need to set up the project settings correctly. For example, to use the Panasonic DV codec, for NTSC, I set the project up as 720 X 480, 29.97fps. Once that is done, you should have no problems outputting with the DV codec, or with Huffy.

This is a nifty program, with powerful features, that produces high quality output. A serious limitation, for me at any rate, is that it does not support output files larger than 2GB. This means that, if you have a large slide show, you cannot use a DV or lossless codec like Huffy to output, but have to use DivX or Xvid, etc., which is OK if that's your final step, but not if you want to convert to MPEG 2, for example. Another annoyance is that there are very many transition options, but no easy way to weed out those you don't like. But the main limitation is the 2 gig limit.

This thing is great! No more simple every 5 sec cross-dissolves for my slide shows!

I just finished slide shows for my wedding DVD and I can't believe the results. Does a great "Ken Burns" effect. The audio implementation is pretty cool but you better read the users' guide on their site to really understand what you're trying to do. Once you set up the audio tracks with the appropriate transitions (mix, fade in, fade out, etc) you can modify the slides without worrying about the audio anymore (assuming the audio tracks are long enough to handle your changes ;-) )

Note that it won't do MPEG directly so you have to use XviD first and then re-render to MPEG with TMPGEnc - as the author recommends. Honestly, using 2-pass with TMPGEnc I can't tell the difference - certainly you never will on a DVD!
