- "start" value (that is last played frame's value of the file) is to remember last played position of the file ( Check "remember played position within a playlist" option under playlist settings to activate this feature )

- "playname" value (that is last played file's name) is to remember which file was last played from the related playlist ( That last played file will be played automatically when a playlist is selected under right click > Album/Favorites menu! I tried using this for dvd's last night and the playback is perfect but I'm afraid I'm having the same issue as another comment posted. I can't get rid of subtitles. They just stay on. If I try closed caption, both sets are on simultaneously. I tried setting the splitter with LAV or Haali and both play fine but the subtitles don't even show they are there. I think maybe it's a setting I'm not getting right but I wish it was a simple as MPC HC where you just load it up and the default subs are off.

MKV and BR playback are perfect. No issues there.

lordfrikk is nothing but a fucking troll. Look at his/her profile. No posts. Who does the/she work for? Although if that's supposed to be PR it's retarded.

Actually I was thinking of trying potplayer until I saw it was done by the same person who d8id KMplayer. And that is shite. Just had to drop in and comment.

SMplayer for me.

@lordfrikk: and you are an asshole for calling me dumb! You are a self-righteous idiot with absolutely no idea of anything!

The procedure you describe did NOT work in the last versions. Just the latest version from Feb 8th seems to handle the subtitles somehow, but still with major drawbacks! It shows the subtitle track even if it is not the "default" track, doesn't recognize and auto-enable forced subtitle tracks, doesn't include a "no subtitle" in the cycling with ALT-L, etc. It's unusable! With Haali Media Splitter it works fine though.

@Frasier: You are just dumb. Either hit Alt+L to switch between subtitle streams or right-click the video, then in the Subtitles submenu choose Select subtitles. Hard, eh?

Unfortunately, the internal source/splitter for Matroska files (mkv) does not seem to support selecting the subtitle track. The player does display the default subtitles, but it's impossible to switch to another subtitle stream. The only work-around seems to be to install another splitter, like Haali Media Splitter. A bit inconvenient though, having to do this. But still a great player!

This program has serious inconsistencies regarding aspect ratios, and the built-in video processor only makes things worse. Notwithstanding, it's good-enough as a "dedicated" DVD-player, also there is a "TMT skin" which dresses PotPlayer with a "very-sexy layout", lol Lol LOL.

Well I thought I'd come back and report that Blu-Ray playback is flawless...no issues whatsoever. How can you go wrong with playback software that plays all media types without any issues and it's free? Give a big thanks to the author of PotPlayer...they really have created a free universal media player.

Hi
First I want to say this is the best player on the net today.& I tested all players around.
I have A Sony Handycam HDR-XR500E Video Camera.
When I play HD m2ts files connecting the camera direct to TV I can watch all my recorded & filmed sections continuously & smoothly with no pouses between the sections and parts.
When I copied my recorded video to my Hard Disk and play them from my Hard Disk,
the player pauses between each sector for 1 second with A black frame, which is very annoying.
I Must say that the PotPlayer does the shortest pouses, compare to any other players around.
I appeal to the PotPlayer Auther,Can You Please Fix It?
I Think you developed the best player around today & you can make it even better.

I have continually tried MPC HC to play HD videos but it consistently always gives me varying results. I mean it plays the videos but most of the time it freezes up. Out of frustration I decided to try this little player and it's just amazing at the HD video it does. It just works. I have some old HD m2ts files from a vacation lyin around on an external drive and MPC HC did the same thing..froze up. Played them in Pot Player and voila!!!! No problems. Played some mkv's and no problems. I haven't tried any Blu Ray's but we'll see what this can do.

Can't beat it...it works and its free

I was a fan of Media Player Classic Home Cinema but when HD videos came along I found that it would freeze and I could not play them properly with it without making the MPC-HC window much smaller. My PC is a few years old but I have quite a powerful system.

PotPlayer is the best media player I have ever used! It plays HD video content smoothly without any problems and thats in fullscreen. The GUI is smart and you can choose plenty of different skins for it. It plays nearly every video format you throw at it and works straight out the box. There are lots and lots of advanced options you can tweak if you know what your doing, if not leave them with the "Recommended" default settings.

Even if you are happy with your current media player, give PotPlayer a try out I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Recommended!

Through testing over 40 media players I came to love PotPlayer.

This is a cool player with briliant costomizational options.

The video/audio playback smooth and the quality is flawless.

One of the key features include, marking of already played files. This is only supportd in only some skins. I would have preffered it on all of them...

I would also like to request, blu-ray menu support and sterioscopic 3D movie support and convertability.
It would also be really good if all the skins (the ones that come in skin packs) and if all the windows were translated to english.

I have to amend my previous comment on PotPlayer... Another quirk I've found is for some reason, is plays .wtv files recorded by Windows Media Center from the digital tuner with completely out of sync audio. The other 2 most popular players (VLC and MPC-HC) play them fine.

PotPlayer does play .wtv recorded from my analog tuner fine, though.

I've tried most of the video players at one time or another, but have settled on PotPlayer for it's excellent performance and configurability. It also does a good job with streaming video, which not all players will.

IntelliMoo - I don't dispute that you have experienced problems with the TV tuner, but I just wanted to mention that I am able to tune analog channels with PotPlayer and my Avermedia M780 card. It does a good job, but I prefer DScaler because it 'remembers' my video size and offset settings.

PotPlayer is the best player around I have found in a long time, it's like a combination of 'Media Player Classic Home Cinema' and 'VLC media player' but with an actual modern look and feel. All the techy settings are there (like MPC) and more, and it has some special features (like VLC) such as speed-up playback with adjusted audio pitch.

The only problems I have with PotPlayer so far are:
- The speed-up playback with adjusted audio pitch: The audio sounds normal for the most part except it has like a reverb effect added for some reason. VLC's feature for this sounds completely normal.
- PotPlayer's TV card support actually works compared to MPC and VLC (both of which never did for mine), but it won't display a picture at all for the analog tuner (audio works), and it doesn't change channels correctly for the digital tuner (it did fine in one session but can't get it to again).

I have been comparing potplayer beta to the newest vlc and mpc homecinema players and I must say the new potplayer beta seems to use less recources loads immediately and plays all the different file types flawlessly and in sync all the way up to 1080p resolution, and with the proper audio and subtitle settings automatically set.The default settings are excellent and they are competely customizable if you like to tinker...;)~
