User options: Email me when it has been updated Report this tool (dead link/new version) Version history:
Neat Video updated for After Effects CS6 and Premiere Pro CS6 Hide changelog The updated Neat Video 3.2 plug-ins include for After Effects and Premiere: Added support for Adobe After Effects CS6 (in Windows and Mac OSX) Added support for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 (in Windows and Mac OSX) Optimized rendering in After Effects and Premiere: overall project render time becomes about 10-15% shorter Additional optimizations of filters for multi-core CPUs and GPUs Updated to CUDA 4.2 NVidia GTX 680 and newer GPUs are supported Improved performance of GPU-based render Color themes: normal and reduced brightness options (see in Neat Video Preferences) Several compatibility issues and bugs have been fixed Updated Neat Video: version 3.1 The updated Neat Video 3.1 plug-ins include: Added support for HS-ART Dustbuster 4.5 (OpenFX plug-in; Windows and Mac OSX) Added support for Assimilate Scratch 6.1 (OpenFX plug-in; Windows and Mac OSX) Improved support for Motion 5.0.1 (plug-in for Final Cut, Mac OSX) Added support for Adobe Premiere Elements 10 (plug-in for Premiere; Windows and Mac OSX) Added support for Sony Vegas Pro 11 and Vegas Movie Studio 11 (plug-in for Vegas; Windows) Improved accuracy of color channel processing in temporal filter; colors in fast-changing scenes are now preserved better Updated to new CUDA 4 (improving compatibility with several NVidia GPUs) Improved support for new GPUs (Compute Capability 2.x) Optimized use of memory in GPU processing, making rendering more stable and in some cases faster Improved stability of GPU processing for large frames (such as 8k) Several compatibility issues and bugs have been fixed New major version: Neat Video v3 Neat Video team is pleased to introduce the 3rd generation of its noise reduction solution for digital video. The new major version 3 of Neat Video improves the visual quality and increases the rendering speed. Neat Video v3 includes the following changes and improvements: Improved quality of noise reduction Improved quality of temporal filtration Improved algorithms better detect and preserve details in filtered video data and thus improve the overall visual quality. Rendering results delivered by Neat Video v3 in most cases look better than those of the previous versions. You can simply re-render the existing projects with Neat Video v3 and get better visual output. Improved accuracy of adaptive filtration Adaptive Filtration option allows to adjust the filter to the changing noise with better precision now, leading to more accurate noise reduction. Higher performance: x2 faster due to CUDA-acceleration Faster noise reduction using modern CUDA-compatible GPUs For example, enabling NVidia GTX 470 or GTX 285 on an i7-based computer makes Neat Video around x2 faster. The speedup may be higher with i5 or Core2 Duo machines or with faster CUDA GPUs. CPUs and GPUs working together Neat Video can use both CPUs and GPUs at the same time for faster processing Multiple GPU support Neat Video works even faster with two or more CUDA GPUs Optimization of performance settings for multi-core, multi-CPU and multi-GPU systems Built-in Optimizer in Neat Video Preferences Built-in Benchmark to measure processing speed with specific hardware and performance settings Higher performance (more): x2 faster due to improved filter algorithms Additional performance optimizations in filter algorithms to achieve higher rendering speed Rendering is around x2 faster than in the version 2 (using CPU alone, even without CUDA) CUDA-based acceleration and filter optimizations combined together enable up to x4 faster rendering as compared with Neat Video v2. OpenFX for Linux is now supported too In addition to the OpenFX plug-ins for Windows and Mac OSX hosts (Nuke, Fusion), Neat Video is now also available as an OpenFX plug-in for Linux host applications (Nuke for Linux, 32-bit and 64-bit). Updated Neat Video plug-in for Final Cut: version 2.7 The updated Neat Video plug-in for Final Cut includes: Support for new 64-bit Motion 5 Neat Video v2.7 is the first 32-bit/64-bit build of the plug-in for Final Cut. Currently, it can run in one 64-bit host application: Motion 5. (the plug-in continues to support the older 32-bit hosts too: FCP 7, 6; Motion 4, 3; FCE 4) The new 64-bit version of Final Cut Pro itself - FCP X - is not yet supported due to several bugs and missing features in the initial release of FCP X. We hope that Apple will fix the discovered bugs and will add the missing features in one of the nearest updates of FCP X and then it will become possible to use Neat Video plug-in directly in FCP X. Until then, it is possible to run Neat Video in Motion 5 and then use the results in FCP X. Additional control to adjust the number of CPU cores used for rendering (to optimize performance on multi-core computers) Several compatibility issues and bugs have been fixed All features / Full description: QUALITY OF NOISE REDUCTION
provided by Neat Video is higher than that of all other methods because: * Neat Video incorporates the most advanced noise reduction algorithms in the industry Neat Video noise reduction algorithms were developed for digital imaging and digital video processing field by a highly-qualified professional research group. These algorithms surpass the quality of all classic noise reduction methods and even that of the wavelet-based methods. Although the wavelet-based methods were developed only 10-15 years ago and are still considered relatively modern, Neat Video uses an even newer and more efficient approach to noise reduction. This approach allows drawing a more clear distinction between noise and details in noisy video data. This helps Neat Video reduce more noise and better preserve true details in digital video sequences. * Neat Video builds and uses device noise profiles to make noise reduction custom-tailored to video capturing device A device noise profile is a reusable analysis of noise properties of a video capturing device (digital video camera, film digitizer, etc.) working in a certain mode. Using a noise profile for a video capturing device in effect makes noise reduction custom-tailored to this device. Neat Video can automatically build noise profiles by analyzing the input video data.

Works wonders on old TV shows, but it is slow. I used it a sample clip of a 60s soap opera and out various programs it gave me the best result. Granted it took nearly 10 hours (2 passes) It played very smooth and clear

On my simple Core2Duo with 2 GB it works with Virtualdub at about 4 FPS (so it takes app. 6 times the len of the film to render it). The quality after some tests is excellent, much better then for example the denoiser in Magix Video deluxe or the virtual dub one. NEAT seems to know the job from their famous photo version. You must be careful in combining the filter with others in the same run, a combination with the contrast/saturation filter gives me a blue video. If I find out how to let Virtual dub directly produce MPG“s I will buy the full version. (Not a problem of NEAT, of course)

I use the Virtualdub version. It is slow as hell. Even on an iCore7. And you need to test a lot to find out how it works. But it's the best filter you can have for video noise. Analogue, Digital, name it. A must have.
