MediaCodeSpeedEdit

MediaCodeSpeedEdit allows you to change the write speed for your media and to add new media codes to your firmware by renaming an already available media code. The new media code name can be entered manually or can be imported from the DVD Identifier media code output to be sure that no special characters are lost. Remove RipLock (DVD read speed increasing).

Worked great for removing riplock from both my LG GH22NP20 drives. Thank you!

With the latest version of this tool, i got amazing results from sub-par fake verbatim media with my benq dw1650 drive. I edited the newest BCIC Firmware for the drive to use older write stratigies for the verbatim code DVD-R 16x MCC 03RG20 to the verbatim code DVD-R MCC 02RG20 which is just the older 8x version. Burning at 8x only seemed to do the trick with this Dynex! festering media. I went from getting anything from below 70-80% Ratings in DvdinfoPro to 93-94% with the hack. With real verbatim media the offical firmware for the drive works perfect at 4x and 8x. I don't know about faster speeds as i only burn max at 8x for crappy media that seems to have a preference for faster speeds. And slow as possable 4x with my good True Verbatim Media. You may want to switch back and forth for burning these getto media with your good media if you get cheap media for less important data like me. i tend to use cheap media for xbox backups cause in small games tends to be ok with bad media. Bad media gives you the worst issues at the outside edge of the disk. There for if you use lower class media i would stick with data thats under the 3-4gb marks depending on your results.

Guides: http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ the tool is simple just click on the media you want to change and it gives you a list of options to switch it with. i suggest trying older version of the same manufactur like i did. I read one time that someone tried using Taiyo Yuden Media code for some bad fake verbatims and got better results. Google it and the Answers will come. Reading forums helps as well, being rich and getting good media makes life even more simple. But Being poor or cheap makes you use tools like this:)

Very cool tool! Helps to detect changes of firmware versions, so even if you do not patch your firmware it helps you to decide if its good to install the new firmware or better not to do so (because media codes you need had been added or removed).
Unfortunatly however the tool has to be adapted to every new firmware version, so you have to wait til your version is supported. E.g. Benq BCIB is still not supported.
Hint to the developer: perhaps it would be possible to list at least the media codes.

Conceptually, a great idea, but the app adds the entire hardware database to your registry, which can slow down overall Windows performance. Much better if the author would create a text or .XML file that the app could reference. It works fine, but take a look at the Reg entries it adds.

I have been looking for something like this. People bring me a lot of no-name DVDs to have me put vids onto. My lite-on burners treats those as 2x usually, with this I could set the speed to the rating on their packages (4x/8x, etc.) and everything worked just fine. Saves a lot of time in the long run.

Bigggest difficulty I had was finding non-scrambled original Lite-on firmware. A google search helped with that.
