This is the fastest program that I have tested to convert mpeg to dvd files. But, I think the price is too high. I would purchase it if it was less than half.

I find this tool very simple and functional. BUT it's very unstable. I don't know why. Every time I try to batch save my projects into files after one file is done saving it just freezes.

Grat editor.Only MPEG capturing tool inside Video Wizard is missing.Power DVD is crashing when trying to open DVD created with Mpeg Video Wizard. That have to be fixed. Regards.

I have been evaluating MPEG Video Wizard for the last few weeks and I am favorably impressed. The GUI is logical and well thought out. The frame accurate mpeg cutting was excellent. The reason MVW did not score higher over all is because the mpeg encoder is slow and IMO not very good. I encoded several DV avi files with a number of other mpeg encoders and again IMO they were faster and produced a better result.

Great program. This plus TMPGEnc DVD Author is about all you need (unless you want to add special effects, and do green screen work). If it had the previous mentioned abilities, then it would be a ten hands down. This program is very intutive and easy to learn and use. These guys are on the ball for making a good and user friendly program. It has two rows on the timeline for adding audio in addition to the video audio. Wish it had one or two more audio rows. Also wish there was an option to pay a little more to get the AC3 audio encoding. My wish list and the "missing features" I listed above are really minor compared to what this program delivers. I really like this program.

This is a superb tool, particularly impressive is its speed on slower systems. Even with high bitrate mpegs, this application will load the file *immediately* and search through the timeline almost seamlessly. This is the perfect product for cutting ads out of PVR files, all the expected editing features are present. Previous to finding this application, I recorded my video as compressed avi for editing purposes, and then encoded to mpeg. With MPEG Video Wizard I now record directly into mpeg. MPEG Video Wizard will join the edited mpeg without re-encoding. Criticism? I do appreciate the feature of being able to lower the bit-rate on the edited mpeg, or even turn an mpeg-2 into an mpeg-1 etc, but unfortunately the quality of the mpeg transcoding isn't great. But still, highly recommended!

In my opinion, this is the best MPEG tool out there. It is absolutely the fastest. Frame accurate cuts, edits and joins are blazingly fast. Unlike some editors which have delays when skipping through a movie to set your edit points and make cuts, this thing is silky smooth with absolutely no hesitation wuth a lower end processor. I've used this on a P3 450 with 256mb Ram and it worked like a charm. The interface is a little non-standard, but is customizable and you can save multiple custom layouts. Very handy depending on what you want to do. Many convenient built in tools exist like mux/demux, stream converters, GOP fixer, etc. Many very handy filters are built in which work quite well (but are somewhat on the slow side). If you are making simple cuts and trims this program will re-ouput your edited file with no re-encoding faster than anything I've seen. I t will transcode a 20 minute show in 90 seconds and a 2 hour movie in about 8 minutes. Amazingly fast. Although MVW's noise reduction filter is nice, it is slow. I used TMPGEnc DVD Creator for transcoding MPEGs for which I want to do noise reduction (like VHS-source files) or noisy TV programs. A VERY handy feature is the ability to directly import VOB files, edit and arrange them as you wish, then output it all as one big DVD compliant MPEG ready for burning. Very cool. I own a ReplayTV and burn a LOT of shows to DVD. This is one of the few programs that will import a native ReplayTV MPEG file (RTV MPEG files are not standard and contain extra info in the headers). Importing these MPEGS into MVW, then making my edits and exporting (as either a single MPG or elementary streams) results in a "normal" and compliant MPEG-2 video. I've never had any audio sync problems either. I only have a couple "gripes": 1. There are 4 filters available when choosing "Expert" mode on the output window. I tried these filters, but they never seemed to work or be applied at all. After writing to womble, they said the filters were actually non-functional because they were not happy with the output quality and these options will be removed in the next release. 2. For whatever reason, when demuxing an existing file containing AC3 audio into elementary streams, the audio portion is not recognized by DVD Lab Pro. Not sure if this is a MVW problem or a DVD Lab Pro problem, but DVD Lab complains that the headers are not compliant and there is a problem with AC3. 3. The company web site is quite disappointing and contains limited help. The built in help files are decent, but not completely thorough. The online "help" consists only of a couple tips about how to edit out commercials. The tips are very useful, but this could hardly be called a "support" site. They need to improve their web site drastically. **** MONEY SAVING TIP ******** For those who want to buy, here's a tip that can save you $50 off the retail price of $119.95. When ordering, enter the following coupon code and it will give you an instant $50 discount so you can have this trmendous piece of software for $69.95: coupon code: mvw2005new If it wasn't for the apparant audio problems and slow output speed when applying filters (or changing bit-rates), this would have gotten 10s across the board. But for a down-and-dirty, blazingly fast, pro-sumer level MPEG editor, this is the gold standard in my opinion.

I tried the trial version of this program. I am very impressed with it. One can cut commercial out so well with this tool that the resulting file is seamless, you can hardly tell a commercial ever existed in the movie or TV show. Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy to use. One can also get the job done fast with this tool.

-Tight A/V sync. -Excellent MPEG-2 Encoding Quality & Speed -Very Stable (get latest update) -Super transitions especially the 3D ones. -Title function is awkward and could use more animations. -MPEG-1 VCD encoding is very bad compared to TMPGEnc,Mainconcept

This is a great tool! I have been using it for about 6 months now and I have not found anything better (but I have looked). I use it to make our purchased commercial DVDs more family friendly but cutting out nudity, profanity, and sometimes I even use it to cut out the boring parts of the movie (hey, it's my movie, so I can do what I want!). You can even get fancy and replace an obscenity with some other word the actor used in some other part of the movie. Unfortunately, I cannot give it an overall score of 10 because it still has slight A/V sync problems sometimes. I have contacted support which is very helpful, but some of these problems have still not been solved. After I discover that I have A/V sync problems, I have to load the mpg file back in to MVW and fix it manually (usually takes about an hour to fix, because I am really picky about getting it exactly right). Other than that, the tool is really great and the help file was well written and told me everything (almost) I needed to know. Feel free to post a private message to me if you want to know more about what great things you can do with this tool.

Regarding the prior post, if you USE all of the features of MPEG Video Wizard, you'll find that several of the features still do NOT work, or never did. The "tools" STILL do NOT work, some of the filters give unacceptable results, and the visual quality of the preview screens has gotten work, not better. Is overlay even working? These, to name a few. I suggest that anyone who cares should REALLY go through the software, take notes and inform Womble just what needs fixing. I have done this on occasion and they have been very responsive. This software is aching for a 10. Give me a reason!

Works for me in WinXP Home (SP 2) & Win2000 Pro (SP 4) Well, happy to report that the newest version has restored everything that the Sepetember 2004 broke. Great tool! Cut, Join, handles AC3 and processes with great speed. I dont use all the functionality, like GOP fixer, titler, transitions, etc. I have other programs where most of those things are handled. Capture MPEG from TV, Satellite, VHS and need to cut unwanted segments with no headaches, then give this baby a try.

I can't get the mpeg GOP fixer to do anything at all. Otherwise great tool, but if you export a .mpg that TMGenc doesn't like, mpeg wizard won't fix it.

I have been a satisfied user for several months now, starting with the 07/30/2004 version. I would give the product pretty much 10s across the board, EXCEPT... I have found, though, that with every version after that, there has been something amiss. For example, in the 12/22/2004 version, the input parameter screens appear disabled when attempting to use the various "Tools", i.e. MPEG GOP Fixer. These "little" things make editing frustrating. All in all, I still value their products.

If you're looking for a pro-sumer non-linear editor that works with VOB or MPEG2 video files (with or without AC3 audio), your search has ended. With MPEG VIDEO WIZARD, you can easily edit out commercials, and do video/audio special effects too. Furthermore, there is no need to convert your VOB files. When you're done editing, it's easy to output your project as an MPEG2 file ready for DVD authoring. My only gripe is the price. When you purchase the MPEG Video Wizard license, you also get their MPEG-VCR license. (It would be nice if they were sold seperately.) Womble has the market cornered in MPEG2 editing and is obviously milking this cash cow. If Womble is working on DVD Authoring, I'm sure to buy that product too.

This is an excellent piece of software. It provides you with a vast ammount of effects and editing capabilitites(Unlike Video Redo) It doesnt recode the Mpeg files,so exporting the edited video is extremely fast.It supports AC3! Also,I have never had any A/V syncronization problems with MPEG Video Wizard. Ideal Mpeg Editor if you need to do more than just cut out commercials.

Great tool. But I caution about using the latest update, 9-24-04 (September 24, 2004). I updated to the latest verion about a week ago or so and have had nothing but problems. Things like application freeze during edit session, inability to edit completely *.mpv and *.mpa files from capture. Also not reading ReplayTV MPEG files correctly. Version July 30, 2004 works like a charm for the most part and have since gone back to it and now my editing is worry-free again.

I tried all the usual non-commercial, home-use (less than $150) video editor suspects for editing files recorded on my Philips DVDR/75. None could handle the Philip's AC3 audio encoded video files without various gyrations through intermediate conversion programs, processes, and manipulations. Womble MPEG Video Wizard easily handles AC3 audio without any additional steps, even providing the ability to edit .vob files directly. It also has some very nice video filtering, transition effects, special effect features, and audio controls. No synchronization issues. Very fast mpeg export (unless a filter has been applied). The UI is Windows-conforming but not necessarily Windows-standardized, which can mean that some things such as effect controls are not obvious to know how to apply and change. But technical support has been very responsive when needed. For those using Philips DVDR/75 (or others) to record, this is the easiest to use, high quality vob-to-editing-to-mpg tool available at this price.

A bit clumsy as compared to Womble MPEG-VCR (their other MPEG product). Missing some of the cutting tools for easy editing. Takes as long as TMPGENC MPEG TOOLS sometimes, when splicing MPEG footage (MPEG-VCR is not like this). That's the bad side. Now the good side: this software was able to fix those evil PANASONIC DVD recorder files that have corrupt AC3 info. It was able to re-create the file AND NOT LOSE AUDIO SYNC (a problem on those Panasonic files when demuxing/authoring) and created a new perfect MP2 audio file. Very, very happy. Overall, it's a niche market program, but it does the job quite well. I was about to give up on that one project, but WOMBLE really shined that day.

I have been looking for a good Edit program for the past 6 months. After I downloaded this program I imported a 1 hr TV show I captured. Edited out the commercials in about 5 minutes. Then exported a new mpg file to the hard drive. Total time about 15 minutes. 15 minutes for a 45 min. file. Studio 9, Video Studio, etc. would have taken at least 2 hrs. I then authored and burned DVD with VideoFactory 2. Perfect video and no out of sync. MVW also has a feature that lets you move the audio to fix a out of sync problem. Have not tried this yet. Add transitions, audio, titles, etc. if you want. One tip: use 2 drives. Program on C Drive and export to D or whatever. I am useing a P-4 1.7 with 512 RAM. This program is a bit pricey, but it is a complete video editor that works.

Briefly put, this is a great tool for dvd file editing. My only gripe so far is the lack of an AC3 encoder. I'd prefer to use AC3 over LPCM and Mpeg audio. Without AC3 the software may not be worth the cost.

Can't handle multiple programs on rerecordable discs (at least not on a DVD-RAM). Any editing to a program prior burning to a disc (say, to make it fit to a DVD-RAM disc) will result in the wrong time displayed as well as sync errors on editing and saving. It's great for single programs on a RAM disc as well as ripping scenes from DVD-+R or DVD-ROM disc. Conversion from one Mpeg format to another is very easy. Hope they fix these problems soon...

I downloaded the 30 day full-functioning trial version a couple of days ago and took the time (~1 hour) to read through the help file. The interface is fairly intuitive. I was glad to finally find a tool which would allow me to take the VOB files from a DVD i own and edit it to my liking. First i ripped my DVD with SmartRipper, then added the VOB's to the MVW project folder. Put them on the timeline. Then i was able to select in/out points for deletion, I would overlay a foreground shape using the Title Graphic Editor in MVW to cover anything i wanted covered for "Family Friendliness" and i this software has an Audio editor where you can adjust the volume to zero so you can mute audio you don't want to hear. So, if you are looking for a way to make your DVD's family friendly, this appears to be the best tool i have come across to date. :]

Hi all Time to eat a little crow. I started having problems with MPEG2VCR, so I tried MPEG Video Wizard again, this time in more depth. I even read the manual. I must say that this program is a major improvement on MPEG2VCR. The scrubber is the fastest that I've ever seen and the input and output windows are a nice touch. I had a major project for a client converting VHS to DVD. I usually use MediaStudio Pro 6.5 for nice transitions, but didn't want to wait hours for rerendering. So I used the transitions in Video Wizard 2003 and the wait time was less than 1/2 hour. One caveat though. The source audio was ac3. By adding the transitions, Video Wizard 2003 changed the audio to mpeg-2 and since it doesn't encode to ac3, I had no choice but to use mpeg-2 audio. But since most newer DVD players handle mpeg-2 audio, it's not a major problem. I'm going to upgrade to DVD Workshop 2 when it's released, so I'll be able to convert final product to ac3. Try it, you might like it. Brainiac

I am already an owner of the MPEG2-VCR Editor that Womble put out. The new version has an easy interface and some nice new features. The only thing that woud have absolutely sealed a purchase from me would have been the implimentation of encoding to AC3. I emailed the programmer and asked him if AC3 encoding would ever be in MPEG2-VCR and his reply was no due to the high costs. FWIW- The new MPEG Video Wizard is quite good, but not worth the upgrade for me at this time.
