2013-04-28 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> View full changelog * Released v6.2.0. 2013-04-27 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: The option "--engage remove_bitstream_ar_info" will now work on AVC/h.264 tracks read from Matroska/MP4 files as well. Fixes #868. 2013-04-16 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mmg: bug fix: mmg will now handle all file names given on the command line instead of only the first one. This allows things like opening several selected files with mmg in Windows, and mmg will add all of them. Fixes #867. * mkvmerge: bug fix: The amount of memory required to store the cues during muxing has been reduced drastically. This is more noticeable the more video and subtitle tracks are muxed. Fixes #871. 2013-04-15 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: If splitting had been active then the elements "cue duration" and "cue relative position" were only written to the first output file. 2013-04-14 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: The "CTS offset" field of FLV files with AVC/h.264 video tracks is now read as a signed-integer field in accordance with the FLV specifications. 2013-04-13 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: DTS parsing: no more warnings about incompatible encoder revision numbers will be printed. Fixes #866. * mkvextract: enhancement: track extraction mode: If mkvextract encounters a broken file structure it will output the last timecode successfully read before resyncing. After the resync the first cluster timecode will be reported as well. * installer: The installation directory will no longer be added to the PATH environment variable. * mkvmerge: bug fix: The parsing of the AAC AudioSpecificConfig structure (the bytes contained in Matroska's CodecPrivate and in MP4's "ESDS" atom) was fixed to support parsing the GASpecificConfig and the ProgramConfigElement if the channel configuration is 0. Fixes #872. 2013-04-09 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mmg: bug fix: Loading chapters from Matroska files will open the file in read-only mode allowing to read from write-protected files. 2013-04-04 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: All entries in chapters imported from MPLS playlists were named "Chapter 0". The numbering has been fixed. Fixes #870. 2013-04-01 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: new feature: Selecting the lowest process priority with "--priority lowest" will cause mkvmerge to also select an idle/background I/O priority. Implements #863. 2013-03-31 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: Fixed reading AVI files with audio chunks of size 0. Fixes #843. 2013-03-29 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mmg: new feature: Add control for new option "--fix-bitstream-timing-information". 2013-03-20 Giuseppe De Robertis <giuseppe.derobertis@ba.infn.it> * mkvmerge: new feature: Add option for fixing the timing information in video track bitstreams (--fix-bitstream-timing-information). 2013-03-18 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: enhancement: Matroska reader: If mkvmerge encounters a broken file structure it will output the last timecode successfully read before resyncing. After the resync the first cluster timecode will be reported as well. 2013-03-09 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: bug fix: MPEG program stream reader: tracks with invalid video properties (e.g. width or height = 0) are ignored properly. * mkvmerge: bug fix: The progress percentage was sometimes using the wrong input file as the reference if multiple files are read with the "additional parts" mechanism (on the command line: the syntax "( VTS_01_1.VOB VTS_1_2.VOB VTS_1_3.VOB )". * mkvmerge: bug fix: Fixed one situation that could lead to mkvmerge aborting with the error message "Re-rendering track headers: data_size != 0 not implemented yet". 2013-03-03 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org> * mkvmerge: removal: Support for BZ2 (bzlib) and LZO (lzo1x) compression has been removed. * mmg: bug fix: Using drag & drop to add playlists will no longer lock the dragging application (e.g. Windows Explorer) in D&D mode for the duration of the scan for other playlists. * mmg: bug fix: The validation for the argument to "split by chapters" was wrongfully rejecting certain valid inputs (chapter number lists in which the second or any later chapter number was higher than 9). * all: enhancement on Windows: all programs now determine the interface language to use from the user's selected interface language (C function "GetUserDefaultUILanguage()"), not from the locale setting. Implements #852.

Just like all ready mentioned in the comments, The latest versions of MKVmerge give still problems for Playback on Multimedia systems Sound OK, Video: --> Black screen. The one I'm using is MMS P1080 from Traxdata. What is the reason of this? Can't this be modified/resolved? Greetings all

Great Program!! I have never had any problems with it!! As stated, i think mostin5000 needs to learn what a false positive is!! Checking the latest version on Virus Total it comes up with 1 out of 42 by some no name unknown antivirus software, and also as stated, i don't think i would trust mcafee to screen my coffee, Zone Alarm, well... It has not caused 1 single problem on my 2 systems and has been a great asset!!

mostin5000 doesn't know how to use antivirus or antimalware software. This software contains none. It is open source and Mosu is a frequent poster on doom9's forums, where he provides excellent support and assistance to users for free. "Shutdowner" is a generic label applied any software that has the ability to shut down Windows - mkvtoolnix bundles this options so users doing long muxing tasks can leave their PCs unattended and not waste power. McAfee and ZoneAlarm are bloated and poorly, ineffectual, written to a laughable extent - UNLIKE mkvtoolnix, which is an excellent utility and the application of choice for muxing Matroska files on any platform.

This installs malware (Win32.Trojan.Shutdowner.bsl) do not trust it, zone alarm spyware scan picks it up, also mcafee. (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=mkvtoolnix+Win32.Trojan.Shutdowner.bsl&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=)

@hbx2006: MediaInfo changed, in fact it was fixed to follow the matroska specs (google search). As for the subtitles, RTFM, format specific options-->Charset. As for your mkv's not playing, RTFM, extra options for the audio stream-->compression none. Hint: File-->Options: Disable header removal compression will make this option permanent for future usage. And this is not place for this stuff, as the comments form says, use the forum ;)

If makers of MKVtoolnix (GUI) are reading this: When muxing i.e. h264+ac3+srt, then at each input file one can (should) also specify Language. The problem is, if I specify i.e. English language for video and audio stream, this setting somehow isn't written into final mkv file (however, language setting for srt file is written). I've checked this with MediaInfo, after my TV (LG LE8500) refused to play mkv files, which were created with MKVtoolnix v4.30, directly via USB. Then I've downloaded older MKVtoolnix v3.40, remuxed the same way (as previously with v4.30) and this time Language tags are written into final mkv file -and my TV plays such file without a problem. I've read somewhere, one should disable compression for versions 4.00 and above. I did that, but didn't help -so this wasn't the problem. I assume, v4.40 has the same problem, but I can't confirm that (I've removed v4.40 and replaced with v4.30, before doing research). Btw. I've also noticed, that mkv file muxed with older v3.40 is a tinny bit larger (about 500kb) than file comming from newer v4.30 -but it works. A wish: I'd like to try something out (related to my TV's subtitle support)... Question: Is it somehow possible to mux srt file into mkv in ANSI instead being automatically encoded in UTF8?

This program worked well in version 4.0. However, in the current version I've been using (4.4.0), my mkv video files work fine on the computer, however they will not stream to my t.v. via the ps3, via ps3mediaserver. It keeps saying "data is corrupted". I've noticed by some other comments that wdlive does not stream these properly either. I guess it must be something about streaming these files. I don't know what wdlive uses to stream...maybe it's an incompatibility with Mencoder or TSmuxer (which ps3mediaserver uses). I guess I will revert to an older version. Pity, as I just muxed a ton of files that I will have to remux ):

Hello. On my system, MKVMerge v4.2.0 and 4.3.0 (both installer and stand-alone) give some error during elaboration with, for example The Film Machine, AviDemux about audio. I cannot explain right the problem because I'm Italian, but with v4.0.0 and previous releases all works fine. I hope these mistakes are resolving in the next future. Thank you for interesting :)

All version 4.x did not work well for me so back to version 3.4.0 and it's fine.

With the 2 latest versions, I couldn't mux external .ass subs on mkv for some reason. So I went back to version 3.4.0. and everything is fine! I don't know if the latest versions include settings that must be determined by the user to do things, I just know that with version 3.4.0 I do my job down with a couple of clicks. So I stick with that version. Latest ain't always better.

Same issue with the inbuilt mediaplayer in LG TV (LG 42LD550): Files muxed with version 4.0 plays fine. Files muxed with version 4.1 or later are unplayable.

Concur with MrBass. Reinstalled 4.3.0 and selected compression=none option for DTS file. Did not select any other Extra Options. Resulting MKV file will not play on my WD TV Live Media Player -- no video or audio. Had to manually reset the box to get it to play other files that were muxed with 4.0.0 or prior versions. Appears MKVtoolnix is on a development path that WDTV Live Media Players can't follow unless WD introduces a firmware change.

Confirming earlier post that versions of MKVtoolnix beyond 4.0.0 are not compatible with the WD TV Live Media Player. DTS files merged into MKV container using later releases are not playable. Release descriptions do not make this clear. Wasted many hours of troubleshooting before finding 7 September comment that identified compression action by newer releases as the culprit.

Absolutely ridiculous direction this is heading. Look at the changelog of header compression bugs. Anyone with a WDTV Live player steer clear of any new releases and just remux with 4.0.0 (last one with no compression on by default). 4.1.0 was decent but 4.2.0 and 4.3.0 is nothing but massive headaches for WDTV Live players even after setting audio track to compression = none. Author says hell no he'll change it nor even offer a default preference to have it turned off. At this point even a firmware update won't fix this mess that's been created. Reminds me of hackers who refused to use terms for 'copy' and 'paste' cuz technically they aren't correct. Well that Linux GUI died cuz they were pure thick headed thugs.

This is really the best tool for creating and modifying matroska files. Should anyone experience problems, read the FAQs. If it's bug file a bug report. The audio problem some users experience is not a fault of mkvmerge. File a bug report for the player that is handling the matroska files. I gave 9/10 for function... there is always something to improve.

There seems to be a bug in mkvmerge. I used it to remove subtitles for a conversion with Mediacoder PSP Edition x64 and the audio became corrupt. Reverted to 2.9.8 and problem disappeared.

It“s great... The only problem is when I want to convert old .avi files to .mkv The .avi contains xvid and mp3 amd its the video that is the problem. The video gets corrupted. It plays fine in VLC but not in my media player. If I import the created .mkv in avidemux2 I can easily see the fault. The problem is solved by using version 3.4.0 otherwise its a great tool stars...

http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/faq.html#header_removal_compression http://www.matroska.org/news/compressed-headers.html Reason you don't get sound on your wdtv live is your DTS or AC3 track is using Header Compression when mixing. To solve this: - Click on audio track in mkvmerge - choose Extra Options - choose None for Compression - voilą remux
