Version history / Release notes / Changelog:
2014-10-22 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* Released v7.3.0.

2014-10-11 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvmerge: new feature: implemented support for reading teletext subtitles from MPEG transport streams. They're converted to SRT-style subtitles (CodecID S_TEXT/UTF8). Implements #773.

2014-10-07 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvmerge: bug fix: probing MPEG transport streams with certain types of broken MPEG-2 inside caused mkvmerge to exit with an error message. Such tracks are now ignored instead.

2014-09-29 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvmerge, mmg's chapter editor: fixed the default value for the »language« element if it isn't present in a chapter XML file.

2014-09-28 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented drag & drop in the files pane.

2014-09-26 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvinfo (Qt version on Windows): bug fix: the console window is closed if the GUI is launched.

2014-09-25 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvmerge: bug fix: Reading tracks from MPEG transport streams resulted in the track being cut off at points with a five minute gap in between frames. It is due to timecode wrap detection introduced in v6.9.0. As it affects subtitles the most the wrap detection has been relaxed for them.

2014-09-20 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented drag & drop in the track pane.

2014-09-17 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* mkvmerge: new feature: added support for PCM in MPEG program streams (.vob – DVDs) and transport streams (.ts, .m2ts – Blu-rays). Implements #763.

2014-09-16 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* MKVToolNix GUI: fixed missing command line switch for audio sync/stretch.

2014-09-15 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented drag & drop in the job queue.

2014-09-14 Moritz Bunkus <moritz@bunkus.org>
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented storing the job queue when the application exits and retrieving it when it starts again.
* Installer: bug fix: the shortcut for the GUI preview on the desktop is removed upon uninstallation. If the user opts not to have shortcuts on the desktop then no shortcut is created for the GUI preview either.
* MKVToolNix GUI: fixed clearing the file/track/attachment lists when starting a new config or when loading an existing one.
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented setting the output file name automatically in four different modes (don't set at all; place in previous output directory; place in fixed output directory; place in parent directory of first source file) with an option to make them unique by appending a running number.
* MKVToolNix GUI: implemented setting the file title automatically from added files that already have a title.

Header Stripping should be disabled by default in the next release. It would make it a lot easier for those having issues. The software works 100%. You just need to know what you are doing. Excellent work to the developers!

For those people who've left comments complaining about later versions of MKVMergeGUI creating MKVs which won't play on standalone devices, 99.99% of the time it's due to header removal compression. This feature is part of the MKV spec but it's not supported by many/most standalone devices. The solution is to go into MKVMergeGUI's options and to check "disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default". Once that's done MKVMergeGUI should once again create MKVs which will play on standalone devices.

Why header removal compression is enabled by default I don't know. It's probably the number one reason for "MKVs created by MKVMergeGUI won't play using my device" threads being started in forums. If not, it's maybe the only reason.

For those wishing to extract streams from MKV files, MKVCleaver is a nice companion tool to MKVMergeGUI.

This is now working on EVERY FILE I try it with. I need to remove DTS or HD audio from files and replace with AC3 for my Samsung HDTV.
This is so simple a kid could use it.
GREAT UTILITY!

None of the files output from version 4.0.0 onwards will play in any of my devices (Blu-ray player, multi-media TV, DVB box). I either get a file format not supported error or it will cause the device to freeze and then go in to standby. Newer versions (from around 5.0.0) also for some reason incorrectly save the files as using variable frame rate mode when they are in fact constant. Earlier versions do not do this. I don't know which changes made are to blame, but files from 4.0.0 up just aren't as compatible as from versions before this. My scores therefore are for version 3.4.0 and earlier.

Files muxed with v5.3.0 does not work in XBMC.
If I mux them in an earlier version, it works.

Anyone else experienced this?

Indeed, the problem is in your subs. I suggest Subtitle Edit. From the Tools tab you select Fix Common Errors. Check all the stuff you wish to fix. One option is to fix subs appearing on more than two lines.

If you are using Media Player Classic/ Home Cinema you can override the placement of subs
(Options->Subtitles->Default Style)

MKVtoolnix has got nothing to do with position of subtitles as far as I know.
If you have problems with subtitles, they are in the subtitles themselves.

Great tool one small annoying problem is that subtitles appear to be restricted to the middle third of the screen and break over 3 to 4 lines. Cannot see how you can change this.

Confirming the issue mkvextractgui fails with mkvtoolnix v5.2.1 but works splendid with 5.2.0.
Extracts different tracks than selected, or gives error and doesnt extract anything, or extracts but doesnt create any file.

Works great as usual.
MKVCleaver is a bit dated and is broken with this version, try MKVExtractGUI-2.

Version 5.2.0 breaks MKVcleaver (it's extracting wrong tracks). Went back to 5.1.0 and all's fine. Great tool though.

I used This version 3.3.0 because, I can play the movie in my DVD via USB. all version above this until you reach 4.8.0 does not work on my Philips DVD and My Philips can not read it. and easily, Just the DVD hangup when I put the USB in and try to play file. except for version 3.3.0, all files are playing very smoothly,

Making chapter inside Matrsoka files, really something great, But I wonder is there any way to import chapter into MKV from DVD.

About the tools itself, It is really great...

Thanks people

It did what I needed it to do, which was to make corrections to language from 'Undefined' to 'English', and also remove the "Created with AutoMKV 0.98.4 etc, etc...". Looks like it can add chapters too.

I had a difficult time figuring out why it would not play on my Sony BluRay player (BDP-BX37). Turns out I had to turn off header compression (fixed globally under "File>Options>Disable header removal compression for audio and video tracks by default".

I would like to see more through documentation.

Excellent tool for splitting/merging/redoing audio for MKV/H264/mp4 files...

Dunno why the latest version 4.9.1 wouldn't "append" files, all previous versions 4.80./4.9.0 have no problems appending files after splitting.

Version 4.9.1 fixes the freezing problem on opening files.
An essential tool for muxing mkv.

For those who have problems with their mkvs playing on commercial players, turn header compression off. Click on the audio / video stream, Then below click on the tab "Extra Options". On "Compression" select none.

Just like all ready mentioned in the comments,
The latest versions of MKVmerge give still problems for Playback on Multimedia systems
Sound OK, Video: --> Black screen.
The one I'm using is MMS P1080 from Traxdata.
What is the reason of this? Can't this be modified/resolved?

Greetings all

Great Program!!
I have never had any problems with it!!
As stated, i think mostin5000 needs to learn what a false positive is!!
Checking the latest version on Virus Total it comes up with 1 out of 42 by some no name unknown antivirus software, and also as stated, i don't think i would trust mcafee to screen my coffee, Zone Alarm, well...

It has not caused 1 single problem on my 2 systems and has been a great asset!!

mostin5000 doesn't know how to use antivirus or antimalware software. This software contains none. It is open source and Mosu is a frequent poster on doom9's forums, where he provides excellent support and assistance to users for free. "Shutdowner" is a generic label applied any software that has the ability to shut down Windows - mkvtoolnix bundles this options so users doing long muxing tasks can leave their PCs unattended and not waste power. McAfee and ZoneAlarm are bloated and poorly, ineffectual, written to a laughable extent - UNLIKE mkvtoolnix, which is an excellent utility and the application of choice for muxing Matroska files on any platform.

This installs malware (Win32.Trojan.Shutdowner.bsl) do not trust it, zone alarm spyware scan picks it up, also mcafee.
