I absolutely love this program. At first I found it very unintuitive, but as soon as I'd worked through the few basic quirks in its design I found it very easy to work with, and it does a superb job of authoring. My only complaint now is that I am no longer using windows as my primary o.s. and there is no linux version :(

I haven't yet found anything native to linux that approaches the feature-set of gui for dvd author. dvd styler has improved since the last time I looked at it, but it isn't there yet...

I'm sorry I don't remember your nick off hand, but anyway, thanks for this great program (even though I can't use it any more...)

Re the %d: you have set the output to split into multiple files once it reaches a certain size. Therefore you need to set the output filename to include a %d. The %d will change to 01, 02, 03 etc. So you could have %dmy_file, and the output directory will end up with 01my_file, 02my_file etc. More commonly, you would specifiy the output as my_file_%d.

After making a few DVDs successfuly. This time I'm stuck with the cryptic error message:

'Need to split output but there appears to be no %d in the filename pattern'

I have no idea what the problem is and have been unable to find a way round it. It doesn't work with the video files muxed or demuxed. The MPGs were encoded in Sony Vegas which I've used in the past numerous times.

Not entirely intuitive, but reading the included html help file fixed it. Just what I needed, a simple mux-er to basic DVD compliant files. Does the job well, fast and free.

I just upgraded to the latest version and found that the new Timecode concept for NTSC video (added in V1.02) causes problems for chapter times. The chapters don't end up at the times indicated in the text based chapter entry. MPEG Files that used to work fine now have chapter time errors. There is also an error indicating that the SCR timecode doesn't match the GOP timecode when the file is added and the the Chapter editor probably won't work. It's right but doesn't say anything about how to fix the problem.

It would be helpfull if there were an option to use the old timecode method.

For now I will be using Version 1.01 since it works better for me.

Otherwise this is a great tool.

Very Good has many of the features in TDA but read the documentation (on the homepage) as not all of the functions such as the play all button or graphical buttons are intuitive

I find GUI for DVDAuthor very useful for the creation of music DVD's which I think is it's strongest point. I find it hard for the newbie to feel his /her way around this program. Its functionality is good. I have authored many dvd's with music menus, but would like to see its navigational direction improved. When running into an error you must have understanding of the process of authoring to troubleshoot the reason why the error was brought on. Overall, It does work for my intended purposes.

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to create a DVD which will have a title menu - but start playing first title right away..
Using GUI for dvdauthor it is straigth forward to create the largest part - but I always end up with the DVD showing title menu as initial action.
..if I change menu action to play first title - this happens also when I select menu ... taht is - it start playing from beginning every time i press menu.

Using IFOEdit I can change the default 'First Play PGC' from 'jumping to first titleset menu' to 'jump to first title'... This works fine and solves the problem - BUT - how can i make GUI for dvdauthor setting this as wanted right away ???

..anyone ??

Frank

Useful utility. Irritating that I can't get to preview menus using Media Player Classic...Unrecognised switch(es) found in command line string.
The offending switch is /outdir...[the output directory - Settings - Project]...I have no idea why MPC would require this parameter. There again, I'm a girlie, so what would I know :)

Great utility, my only gripe is the over complex animated/motion menu function, if it could be made somewhat more intuitive (or, if at the very least someone could cobble together a better guide) I would give this 10/10

not the easiest tool to use, but there are so many things you can do. i mainly use TMPGEnc DVD Author for making simple menus and muxing MPV/Audio, but it does not support DTS. this is one of the ones i found, and since it is freeware, i gave it a shot.

theres not really any guides for this tool, other than a guide for the basic use and what all the settings are, so it was a little difficult to use at first. it isn't nearly as convenient as TDA, but it did the job.

I've been a regular user of TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.x almost since its inception. One quirk of that program that irritated me was its inability to make 16x9 menus -- even if ALL your clips were 16x9, TDA's menus were still all 4x3. I was quite happy to see that would be rectified in TDA 2.0 until I saw the price to upgrade.

So I started looking at alternatives. Let's see... GUI for DVDauthor does everything TDA 1.x used to do, plus 16x9 menus, and it's ridiculously easy to use... and it's free???? I'm there.

I haven't even begun to look at some of its more advanced features... chapter editing, subtitle menus....

Granted, it doesn't convert your audio files to ac3 on the fly like TDA 2.x does, but then I came from TDA 1.x which required an external plugin for that. Use Belight (also free) to create your ac3 files beforehand and you won't miss TDA at all. GUI for DVDauthor rules!

I found this tool to be quite functional to me. I use it to make
Audio dvd's and its worked well. I'd load up an image, then load up my AC3 encoded audio files, let GUI for DVD Author do its thing,
and even burn with Nero through GUI for DVD Author, and was satisfied every time. I've also authored many movies with this tool, and its free too, where can I go wrong?

Absolutely brilliant addition to the DVD creation too-and just what I was looking for for creating DVD's from non DVD compliant MPEG files without either re-compressing or using DVD patcher. The only thing I'd like to see added (if it's possible) is to be able to put together two different clips in one menu item.

I have been using GUI for dvdauthor for over a year now. It's fairly easy to use (once you find your way around) and has almost always delivered the goods (unlike several of the commercial programs I've tried).
I've used it for single and multiple video title sets.
Only today I discovered the audio title set feature.
This is exactly what I've been looking for for months.
You can take an audio file (at least mp2 and ac3) and link it to a video still. The great thing is - GUI for dvdauthor accepts not only 2.0 and 5.1 ac3 files but also 5.0 and 4.0 ac3s, probably also 3.0 ac3s.
Much better than Sony's DVD Architect - which can't take 5.0 ac3 files without taking hours to reencode them to - stereo!!
One wish though - to be able to load a different video still some minutes into an audio file and set a chapter there.

Great tool. In a Little experiment between TDA, Workshop & GFD it emerge as the winner. On top of that its free. You simply can't beat that...
I wold like to get in touch with the author to present a little wish list.
1. Integreation to create an ISO.
2. Menu funtionality preview.
3. Maybe an option to create or implement a play all.
Still this program is awsome.

Just downloaded this last night. I was using Nerovision which only let me burn in LPCM making for HUGE audio files. By using the excellent online guide I was able to create a multi-title DVD in a couple of hours. Tested it this morning and it was great!

This GUI is easy to use and I would gladly recommend it!

As a newbie to burning DVD's, I so far have found this program to be the best for those who want to add interactive menues to their DVD's along with selecting chapter points in their movie.

All for free!

This is an excellant program to get your feet wet in learing the differences in buring a SVCD and a DVD.
