Works just fine with Win7 Pro 64 bit. The only problem I have with this program is that it doesn't do MKV. Fortunately, it DOES work with MP4, and it appears that MP4 is becoming more fashionable and MKV less so.

I agree (outdated). I switched to mediainfo - they update it constantly.

I used to use this on my old 32-bit Windows XP but it doesn't work with Vista 64-bit, crashes. This version is old, from 2007, why hasn't the developer updated this? I see this happen all the time, a great software is developed and released, then abandoned (another example: VirtualDubMod). The developer doesn't want to be bothered anymore. Why even bother if your not going to finish what you start.

GSpot even analyzed correctly a .rar file disguised as avi file. All others incl. medianfo and avicodec failed. Great utility.

I’ve been using GSpot since I ever stated manipulating video files in every way possible, sometimes explored for something better but always had to come back to it as this is the master of them all. I wish the developers would take the missing handy features that other software have and incorporate them which would wipe out the so called competition for good. The second reason why I decided to write this “not so helpful” review is that I just watched a documentary about woman getting surgery to inflate their GSpot with collagen :o) One thing for sure, this software does not need anything fancy in order to keep you satisfied.

Hi, I find this tool very useful. I don't think I am fully using the entire power of this tool. I have searched & searched the web for a "GSPOT User Guide" ... but so far I have found NONE! I would like to know how to interpret and use the Window "Proposed Codec Solutions & Tools" or how to decipher "User Data" info and so forth. So, if anyone knows of a GUIDE, MANUAL ... please post here ... or may be the AUTHOR of this great program can help out. THANKS & MERRY XMAS to the AUTHOR & All, G!

DV it's NOT always BFF, i have just now a lot of TFF DV file to work. But, unfortunately, this version of GSpot really show always TFF, even if the DV file is BFF. Actually, the best method (imo)to detect the right field order remain TMPGENC Plus or Avisynth. But, with te exception of few similar bugs, Gspot remain an essential tool.

Just tested a DV AVI file with version 2.60 β05 and it is showing the field order as TFF, when it should be BFF as DV is always BFF.

How can you not love this prog? It is so invaluable for finding out very detailed information. It is the defacto standard and other progs in this field don't even come close to what GSpot offers. Kudos to the author!

The Damned thing STILL does not handle .mkv (Matroska Files). All I get is "Invalid avi file".

Very killer util, provides all sorts of information. The only limitation I see is that it cannot do mkv/ogm files at the momment.

GSpot is a great program for determining codecs. As far as error detection is concerned, it will tell you if a file is "complete" or not, but not if it contains errors or frame drops.

Takes a few minutes to figure out (learn to RENDER), but is quite useful. Always helps find problem codecs. ALso helps find out file codecs. Excellent. Tool should be part of ANY decent video setup.

Gspot is an essential tool. Easy to use and it works great. Does everything it says it does. I get a lot of use out of this program, along with the AVI FourCC Changer, VirtualDub, and TMPGEnc.

This is one of those desert island tools. If you do conversions from one format to another, there is no way that you should be without G-Spot. Its ability to dictate the correct CODECs, coupled with its analysis of DirectShow streams is indespensible.

Absolutely *required* if you download a lot of AVI's. This single tool tells you if you have the software to playback an AVI. With all the video and audio codecs floating around, this tool greatly simplifies things.
