FLV files still do not work right. Sounds plays 1/2 speed along with the video which plays correctly. This bug has been ongoing since 3.2.1. I have reported it back then, and its still not fixed.

Had used various versions of Freemake for some time and then when I did an update it started crashing on me. Reinstalled and updated to latest version all to no avail. Contacted their support and got nowhere, didn't even really address what the real problem was or any solution. Was disappointed as I liked the program setup and ease of use. Currently on the hunt for a replacement.

I'm not going on with this argument/conversation, I'll just end with this. This program is good for newbies who just want to rip their dvd collection quickly and easily. It is up to them if they want the best quality to look into other programs as they learn about codecs/formats and get into the technical aspects of video transcoding if they want to. I want my rips all on my external drives so I can watch them on my media player without having to waste time switching dvds. The time factor is why I use this.

@Wolfen I suggest to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_segmented_frame article to understand the problem. The software deinterlaces everything which causes enormous drop of video quality. (the loss of the half of spatial resolution) The software hasn't detailed h.264 options.

@ fedupwithjunk. Wow talk about Paranoia! it's a free program for ripping and converting DVDs if you want to be paranoid about something talk all you want about Google Chrome and the info it's sending to the Authorities. And as for the De-interlacing thing It uses the ffmeg lib to de-interlace the input if it needs de-interlacing that's what automatic means.
|
|||||||||||||||
|
|
|||||||||||||||
Due to its automatic deinterlacer: It can't handle interlaced video contents, and It worsen the video quality of Progressive Segmented Frame videos, because it deinterlace it instead of put the fields together to create real progressive video frames.

We should be concerned that this program ignores all instruction to deny it reporting back home. At best this points to poor ethical values and at worst just down right crooked. BEWARE if it seems to good to be true IT IS! I have not had time to trap what info it is secretly sending out but if someone wants to report their findings it would shed some light. In the meantime users should configure their firewall.

This is by far the best FREE DVD Ripper, the quality is great, it's easy to use, it ripped every dvd that I've thrown at it. I didn't install any of the extra bundled software(just watch and read when you install this program). So there is and add in the middle of the gui, big deal it doesn't flash or anything it just sits there, I don't sit there and look at the gui while it's ripping/encoding anyway. The quality imo beats most commercial rippers out there. It doesn't crop the black bars(I just want to watch the rips on my TV)but you can cut scenes out of it before you do the rips. Oh and it always gets the aspect ratio right and there is never a problem with messing around with the de-interlacer it's automatic. This is all I use now for ripping my DVDs to H264/aac MP4s.

I updated to version 3.2.1.4 and I uninstalled it after seeing the Annoying Reminder about "Freemake Gold Pack" smack in the center of the GUI, which does Not go away even after the first use. I really don't need this software that badly, besides there are a lot more Freeware which does conversions if needed. So!!!

This program is great. With only one exception. FLV files doesn't extract correctly with this program. The sound is like 1/2 speed slow. The sound is trailing behind the video but at 1/2 rate. FLV files do play perfectly on my powerdvd 11, and other programs that cost also play it correctly, but this one would be the best if the sound was right. Speeding up to 2x, makes the sound close to normal, but then the video is racing by.

I think this a terrific tool. I have one beef in that they say you can offer suggestions and such to improve the program but they never bother letting you know if they got your message. I have been hoping they could find a way to edit a file and let it pass through the program without re-encoding. This would be especially useful for HD files recorded using a Hauppauge HD-PVR. Also the DVD feature, to be able to access the menu page to design it to one's own liking would be nice. All this being said it is a great program and I use it very often. Thank you to the creators of the program.

Does anyone know why it leaves those "... do not remove ..." folders behind in the Documents folder? It seems as if they are not reused, so when I close the program I delete those folders anyway.

Very straightforward and intuitive tool for video conversion n00bs like me. Love the UI design and color scheme, the buttons are nice and big so it's easy on the eyes and perfect for touchscreens. This software should not be labeled as adware as most freeware on the internet give the user options to opt out of installing toolbars and other included software.

Very good UI design. I'm impressed! Unfortunately it cannot process my MXF files correctly :-( The generated MP4 file has only still image without sound. Hope this can be improved in future updates.

Why is this singled out as "adware" when you can choose NOT to install the stupid toolbar thing? Many (most?) "free" apps these days come packaged with stupid toolbars, which you can elect to ignore.

Good product; I even burned a dual-layer DVD movie with it after ripping with DVDfab and it did it flawlessly. For downloading and converting FLV videos to mpg3 works a treat.So far I am impressed with it. I can understand why we have to be careful, but I have this locked from sending out with Comodo and so far no attempts. I think they may be a bit secretive from a copyright safety standpoint. I suspect that they are working out any bugs for now and eventually will package it as a "for sale" product. Can't blame them.

From Facebook: Hi everybody, as promised yersterday we released an update with the fix of all found issues related to FreemakeUtilsService. 1. Now FreemakeUtilService which aroused so much concern is installed only upon user's permission who wants to help improve Freemake. The bug with the running service was fixed. 2. The service is uninstalled if software is uninstalled, no files are left. This was fixed too. 3. If the service was installed with the previous software version, a user can opt out in the new version. In this case the service will be automatically removed from PC. Here to avoid confusion brought by some people we'd like to stress once again that the service didn't send before and doesn't send now any data if a user opted out. The only function of the aforementioned service is to collect our software usage stats which will allow us to improve Freemake further, to your benefit. In case of a crash report a user is asked an additional permission to send a report through dedicated message window. If permitted, the service runs when a user is online to synchronyze with our server for best time to send crash reports and usage stats. This is done to avoid our server time overload. A user is given full information about the service via a link to a webpage during software installation.

They have removed the majority of my posts on Facebook with test result and concerns over the service. They are trying to make folks think I am a "competitor", although I drive a bus. Further concerns, I just looked on their website, and was a bit concerned to see the bottom: Quote © 2010-2011 Ellora Assets Corporation. Privacy policy Terms of use. That's exactly what the footer has on it. Or, in case the obviousness is lost in the quote: there are no actual links. I didn't see any such pages by browsing to other pages either. More concerning even is their Wikipedia page, which has a section about a licensing controversy: Quote FFmpeg has added Freemake Video Converter to its Hall of Shame. An issue tracker entry for this product, opened on 16 December 2010, says it is in violation of GNU General Public License as it is distributing components of FFmpeg project without including due credit. Ellora Assets Corporation has not responded yet. In other words, you are dealing with a company that (despite all of the 'social media buttons' on its front page) lacks the capacity to communicate and/or doesn't give a crap about licenses. It is probably a single individual running this entire site, but even if that isn't the case they operate under the guise of a company. As such they should be held to the standards of one. Throw in the fact that they censor the social media stuff about that service, and little remains to trust them with.
