I paid few bucks to divx long back and regret many times after I started using xvid,x264 with ffmpeg and other freeware tools like xmediarecode. Recently I am upgraded to windows 7 64 bit, and many of free wares including xmediarecode crashed. It is hard to use ffmpeg cli all the time. Finally i tried this converter, It is working pretty well for mobile conversion. I can set my resolution 480xXXX (some tools restrict me to 320xXXX) which matches my phone resolution, I can passthrough mp3 audio, I can change bitrate. I don't think I care about any other setting for 480x320 mobile. Till now I converted more than 20 vids and every thing turned out to be very good quality and plays fine in my mobile. The main problem is I am not able to see source audio type to select pass through if there is mp3. need to check with mediainfo. I am now happy with divx for first time after I pay at least for mobile conversion.

I have used Divx Converter to combine several videos and it also easily creates the a menu selection based on the Title of each video file. However Since I no longer have the original video files, I would like to play the video files on a non-certified Divx Ultra device (which the file will only play on a divice ultra cert device on a pc with Divx Player) I would like to know if anyone has a workround, to somehow "unconvert" or "undu" the conversion so I can get to each of the video files that was created with the Divx converter

I was told this version supported dolby surround 5.1 channel audio. That does not appear to be the case. I tried to convert MPEG files that my camcorder stores on its' hard drive which carry 5.1 channel surround, but after conversion, I was left with 2 channel stereo, despite checking the box within the properties to retain audio. I still use it, as I can demultiplex the audio into an AC3 file and save that, along with the completed divx file, and the total size is still at least 1/5 of the original. Thumbs up here if you like it easy.

Does not work properlly in Windows Vista. Score is for W2K or XP.

I use divx converter to change my mpeg2 tv movies, since file amount reduces significantly I could save good movies in my hard disk. super quality, and very good simple product.

I keep reading here that XviD is superior to Divx, but in my own experience -- after months of trying a variety of settings with XviD, I have been unable ever to produce output that matches or exceeds the results (small size and picture quality) that I usually get with DivX 6.1.1 Converter and the "Home Theatre" preset. It may be too simple for the experts, but for me it does the job better than any alternative that I have tried.

After using several free conversion tools, this seemed way, way too simplistic at first glance. You pick the file(s) to convert, select from 4 different resolutions (which are listed as "High Definition", "Home Theater", "Mobile", or "Handheld" rather than the actual resolution), and let 'er rip. Haven't timed any of the conversions, but it seems to do it fairly quickly. Quality of the output has been excellent so far. You can't really tweak anything in this tool, which does not bother me but I can see how it would be a negative for more advanced users. All I need is a tool that will reliably encode good quality divx files fairly quickly, and this app fits the bill perfectly. Rarely do I end up shelling out any money for trialware, but I was happy to plop down a few bucks for this one. Word to the wise: if you choose to buy this, you need a 'plug-in' if you want to convert from MPEG2 files, and that is $9.95 extra on top of the $19.95 starting. They are currently running a 20% off promotion, however, so I got the whole thing for $24. Bottom line, if you want something you can tweak every which way, you'll hate this. But if you're like me, and are just concerned with creating quality divx files with as little fuss as possible, you'll love it.

For a flagship-branded Divx converter, I was disappointed in this tool. The user interface is far too simplistic even for a novice user, and the 7-page documentation is useless. What is the difference between handheld, portable, home theatre or HD format for the encoding - you can't tell by reading the docs. Also, if you want to encode your own MPEG file (not a VOB) to fit on a CDR, you do not get that option. I consistently got files that were about 40MB too big to fit on a CD - kind of useless. Good thing there is a trial version of this tool, because I just don't think its worth the money: there are too many free utilities out there that give better control options and documentation. Even a novice user will find this tool frustrating in a few minutes.

Utter crap. Didn't succeed to make a single DivX of any of my (unencrypted) DVD. Failed with "unknown error" every time. Didn't catch the subs if I ripped to HDD first with DVDDecrypter in ifo mode. Only advantage is that it has almost no settings at all to confuse the user.

Ok so I spent the $10 Upgrade fee sight unseen. I'm a little displeased at the lack of options. Only 2 choices for Encoding! Well, 700Mb is ok for standard movies to a CD but what would I ever want to encode to 2GB? Someone Enlighten me! I also have Lots of TV programs, old Laurel & Hardy, 3 Stooges .etc that with Dr.DivX I can encode to fit several on a CD usually keeping the file sizes about the same for Quality. The Original .avi files are much less than 700Mb. Does this Converter make the file sizes Bigger? I've been to scared to try it on some of my old stuff. Someone try this on Smaller Files? The program is Quick & Easy enough to run a Regular movie to CD size but to me that's about it. I still use my Dr.DivX at least 1/2 the time or more. The Upside is that I only spent $10 for the Upgrade, I can live with that.

Not a bad converter however i never could find where my movie was outputed until i read a comment here. The file size is a little iffy ill have to try it out in my Divx player to see how it acutally plays out, a very easy to use tool however it can use some brushing and maybe an advanced options would be nice. For example a way to add another sound stream or subtitles. All in all its fairly well done, needs some brushing up.

its free and easy to use but it isnt anywhere near as good autoGK or dr divx you cant control any settings when converting an mpeg the picture quality was poor file was a weird size AV sync yet tmpeg using divx 6 codec produced a perfect file stear clear of the divx converter the codec itself is fine tho if used in other programs

When I realized I could not even control where the output files for the DivX Converter were, I was just a bit worried.....that is not right! As a Dr. DivX replacement, this sucks. However, Dr. DivX is still there. If you look in your \Program Files\DivX folder, you will find the good doctor. The DivX 6 install removes the icons for Dr. DivX, but it does not uninstall the program. I did have to enter my serial number again to get the Doctor working, but after that, all was well. Encoded a show using both Dr. DivX and the Converter, and the size is about the same, and the quality is about the same for the most part, in the small sections I looked at. Not a very good test but all I have had time for so far.

Certainly great tool for newbie encoders, although many formats are unusable, like mov, mp4, and some avi's etc. Im sticking with Nero thanks, best godamm encoder out there.

If this is intended as a replacement for Dr.Divx, then it is woefully featureless, it is simply a drag-and-drop applet. But this is good software for the consumer who wants a simple way of encoding Divx files. Problems? The mpeg encoder does not recoignize ac3 audio! But installing AC3 Filter solved that problem.

Well, if you like inputing a file and getting out a divx, then this is a good tool. Unfortunately you can't change any individual setting other than the profile.
|

Very disappointing. Dr. Divx was a much better tool.
