Cut Assistant |
Cut Assistant helps cutting video files (wmv, avi), for examaple to get rid of commercials within a TV recording. It is a windows graphical user interface (GUI) for asfbin and virtualdub. With these tools it can cut videos without re-encoding. Comes with a video player. Cuts can be saved in cutlists. Cutlists can be exchanged with other users over a cutlist server (www.cutlist.de). System requirements: WinXP, DirectX 9c or better, Codecs for your video files.

AVG reports as INFECTED with unknown VIRUS!! PS: before that I mistakenly opened direct from the .ZIP and tried using it for a while for fixing and merging WMV files. Fixing CRASHED (even though VLC plays them fine)..! Merging - I struggled for 30 minutes to understand what can be done and how - to no avail. The interface is odd and anything but easy or intuitive, makes a big deal of managing "cuts" and plain editing seems a secondary task interface-wise.

For people having problems using Cut Assistant with latest versions of asfbin where a Human Test question is asked, you have to check the "Show originial Application Window" in the Asfbin configuration window (under the option menu). There, you will see a Dos prompt window appearing where you can just enter the answer, then the cutting process start. Hope it helps

Happy Happy Joy Joy! I just found out that the latest version of Cut Assistant works with MP4Box to cut mp4 files beautifully. Looks like I've found a replacement to YAMB for cutting mp4 files, since it provides a preview of the resultant file. Of course, I'll continue to use YAMB for file joining operations,for which it excels. Once again, my thanks to the author of this great tool.

Cut Assistant provides me with a preview of wmv files that I am editing using AsfBin. It's flexible in allowing me to cut out multiple segments of the file or cropping out a single segment. I'm not using the latest version because as they say, "if it ain't broke..." I'm sure the latest version works fine, I just haven't had the need to try it. I've been using it for years in XP and I'm happy to report that it works with AsfBin in Windows 7 64-bit. Many thanks to the author of this excellent tool.

This is by far the only tool I have come across that enables frame accurate cuts in asf/ wmv files. You can make multiple cuts and then save as a trimmed file. Excellent tool. Requires direcx filters to open/ play the files and asfbin 1.5 upwards to make the cuts. If you have difficulty viewing the file just use the file repair function.

Hi! Excellent tool. I love it. I agree the GUI could be more intuitive, but neither the less it is very easy to handle. For me by far the easiest way to get films cut. This is especially true if you want to cut files from the onlineTVrecorder as there is a website, where users can share there cuts. Normally it takes me about 4 clicks and no thoughts to get a movie ad-free. Love to use it, works with avi, wmv. Cheers KwikFox

This program needs a complete interface re-write, a decent web site and a better installer. The controls for this program are not clear. The main window contains what appears to be a video box that isn't used. There seems to be a lack of support for modifier keys like Shift and Alt to advance the video at different rates. The toolbar has a greater focus on managing lists of cuts than actually processing the final result. To do that you need to look into the File menu. The website is barely readable with light grey text on a white background and no headings nor any clear indication of what information is presented. Finally if a program depends on another program, like this program depends on Virtualdub, it should be distributed with an installer that checks for the existence of Virtualdub and prompts the user to download Virtualdub if it's not already installed. Overall whilst I imagine the author of this program has done a lot of work in the core coding, the usability drawbacks of this program leave all that hard work largely wasted.

I wanted to trim the beginning and end of an avi and re-save it for encoding. This program does what it says, it eases cutting segments out of avi's, in conjunction with Virtualdub. There is a preview screen so you can see where in the avi you are and what you want to cut. Takes a minute of two to figure out. The cut file played and encoded as expected. Would be nice if there was a simple save file icon/option, but this is a wish versus a need. Nice bit of freeware. Thanks.
