Version history:
v11.12.27
Fixed - There were still some bugs in the Blu-ray input module. Many seamless branched disc resulted in an error while demuxing. Now all possible eac3to output information is supported by AVCHDCoder.
Preparation - Preparing AVCHDCoder for a major technical improvement like: Better logging, better progress information, better process handling, error handling and converting all AVCHDCoder features into reusable modules. This way I can add even more features in the future like: seperate audio conversion tooling, mkv tooling etc. The first result of this improvement will be improved blu-ray support (mpls playlists that are shorter than 15 minutes currently are not shown)

v11.12.17
Fixed - Introeditor doesn't work anymore since 2011-12-09.
Fixed - True-HD audio Untouched doesn't work correctly in BDMV mode. You get an ac3 instead of True-HD. It works ok in single file mode.
Fixed - If you enter a BDMV folder and the playlist name contains '(angle x)' language detection doesn't work and conversion may fail (for example many playlists in the Star Wars discs)
Fixed - If a blu-ray playlist doesn't contain a chapters line (for example a playlist in the Star Wars discs) conversion fails because some track id's are off by one.
Changed - Previously it was possible to convert an ac3 to the same bitrate. Now those targets are removed from the 'Audio target' list in the 'Select Streams' tab.
Fixed - Target resolution could be selected when Remux mode is actived. Doesn't affect conversion itself. Now target resolution greys out.
Added - Select ImgBurn delivered with AVCHDCoder or enter the path to an external ImgBurn.exe. Internal or External.
Updated - ImgBurn to 2.5.6.0
Updated - x264.exe 32 bit and 64 bit to r2120

v11.08.03
Fixed - If you have a regged version, added some items to the Tools section and you update java to a new versio you will get an error. If you already got this error, delete the settings file else this update will prevent you getting the error. New settingsfile is saved automatically so you don't need to do it yourself.
Fixed - In some cases you get an error if you are using alternative menu's.
Possible Fix - When DTS 768/755 is the source and you select Untouched, the target can get slightly to big.
Added - New 3rd disc output option. Now you can add an intro without a menu. Previously only Menu/Intro and No Menu/No Intro.
Added - A new simple menu. A blu-ray style background. Max 1 item. (Registration required)
Updated - x264.exe 32 bit and 64 bit to r2044
Updated - ffdshow x86 and x64 to rev3925

v11.05.23
Fixed - A terrible error popped up after the latest release.

v11.05.22
Fixed - If your source is a Blu-ray/BDMV and your target is an encode you get a Encoding error. Remux mode works OK.
Fixed - Sometimes the output iso is 1 MB to big. Added a 2 MB extra margin for DVD5 and DVD9 to prevent oversizing.
Changed - Installer is now 35% smaller. Now there is only support for 8 items on a disc (removed the other 24). This means the installation itself is also 375MB smaller. If you need more items you can download the menu pack to get support back for 32 items on 1 disc.

v11.05.07
Added - Remux mode for VC-1 and MPEG2 stream. H264 was already possible
Added - LPCM to DTS encoding for M2TS and BDMV mode. Surcode DVD DTS is required (Commercial software) and a registrered version of AVCHDCoder is required.
Added - Add your own items to the Tools list. You can add files and folders to the list. A registrered version of AVCHDCoder is required.
Fixed/Changed - Seamless Branched Blu-ray discs caused sync problems or errors while demuxing. I replaced tsMuxer with Eac3to for demuxing.
Fixed - Force subtitles track #1 can now be disabled in the settings (finally)
Fixed - On Windows Server editions no iso was created with ImgBurn because of a pipe | problem. Changed it to SRCLIST and now it should be fixed.
Changed - Settings file upgraded to another version (all current settings are lost).
Changed - AVCHDCoder Project Files (Saved jobs) changed to another version. Previous saved Project Files are not compatible with the new system.
Changed - Audioconversion with eac3to will now show the actual progress (percentage) instead of a looping progress bar.
Changed - Some other minor cosmetic changes

Updated - x264.exe 32 bit and 64 bit to r1947

Added - Around 500 new formulas, AVCHDCoder now supports over 2000 audio combinations.

Fixed - Converting WMV with dbPoweramp R14 resulted in an error. R13 worked fine.
Fixed - MKV remux mode resulted in an error.

v10.09.14
Fixed - 1080p to 720p conversions are streched.

v10.09.13
Fixed - Converting srt/ssa on Normal Quality failed. Now it is fixed and you can convert them again.

v10.09.12
Fixed - Multiple bugs in the Movie Search screen. Searching movies works a lot better now.
Fixed - 1080p25 was visible at the Advanced Tab by accident. It is now removed because it is an invalid format.
Fixed - Broken subtitles if: Source is a Seamlessly Branched Blu-ray Disc and you added a srt or ass with HQ Subs enabled.
Fixed - In some cases a pgs subtitles slowly goes out of sync.
Fixed - Sometimes BDSup2Sub creates bad output. This only applies if the PGS sup file was from a Blu-ray disc. AVCHDCoder converted them unnecessary. The result was that the output duration extended with a couple hours. This problem is still there if you resize a BluRay to 720p, only in a small number of cases. (Earth, 9th Company)
Added - A brand new Update mechanism. It's the Advanced Installers update feature. Now you can automatically download new updates.
Added - I rented a new virtual server to serve new updates.
Added - You can now save the log to a file. Open up the Log panel under Tools to save a log file.

Fixed - When you add a whitespace at the end of a title in the output tab will result in errors while converting.
Fixed - Frame doubling caused the output to run too fast. (This is used in camcorders)
Fixed - Unknown subtitles streams are visible in the Streams tab. Selecting them will result in an error.
Fixed - If source duration is too long and you selected LPCM audio it will result in an error.
Fixed - If your source is Blu-ray and you selected a playlist that contains multiple items (SBD) the duration in the Streams tab is wrong.
Possible fix - Sometimes the disc created is a little bit too big. (about 5MB) X264 causes the problem.

If you have a BD50 or MKV and want it shrinked to AVCHD-DVD or BD25 this is the perfect tool to do all the Work with only a couple of clicks. Unfortunately that is all it can. Like Adobe Encore it forces you to transcode any of your media even if simple demuxing -> muxing would do the job. So if your video have to be transcoded everything is fine. If it doesn't it's only a waste of time and quality. In that last case tsmuxer or multiavchd do a better job even if they aren't updated very often.

Nice program. It does blu-ray 50gb to 25gb movie only and fills
the disc to 99% capacity. The quality is the best I have seen for this
type of program. The forces subtitles are very important for some movies
and in this program works great. Also this program retains the chapter points
also a must have for all movies. I have not experienced any sync problems yet.
Great program. I look forward to future versions.

For some strange reason with version 11.01.07, i can not get it to create BD25 or BD50 sized outputs. When selecting these 2 settings it keeps creating AVCHD outputs of about 4.1GB.
With previously released versions i did not have this problem with, they worked like a charm.

Great programing. I have been waiting for a program like this for over a year.
Avchd coder is the best thing I have seen for doing blu ray 50gb to bd-r 25gb.
So far l have done 4 movies and the quality is awsome.
There is many options for compressing the audio and the subtitles work great.
Their is not much room for improvement the only thing may be better speed for
Encoding. The quality is well worth the wait. Thanks for posting such a great program.

This program works very well. It would be nice to be able to add sub titles from outside the input file.

“Being able to convert 25 fps to 23.976 in the program would be nice, since the tools are all there. Not criticizing, maybe a future 'feature' :-)”

It automatically converts 25 fps to 23.976. PAL to NTSC

I just installed this last night and did not get a chance to test the software yet.

I wanted to comment on the EXCELLENT installation and testing procedures (to validate your PC's ability to convert video) included with this software.

This package includes the Avisynth, Ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter for 32 or 64 bit OS's. I had the 32 bit versions of these software packages already installed on my PC but not the 64 bit versions.

Just follow the HELP installation procedures and the software testing to validate your PC's configuration.

So even if you do not use this software for converting video, use it to verify the correct codecs are installed and working! I am not aware of any other software that is offers these installation and TESTING options.

Great software, really easy to use.
One thing I want to note, pretty much every freeware Blu-ray/HD-DVD encoder uses the exact same program x264.exe to do the really hard work, encoding. So comparing speed of one product vs another is pointless, if you found a program that encodes in 4 hours what it takes this program 24 hours to do on the high setting that means that the new program you love so much is probably producing garbage, quality wise, in x264 quality is configurable with options and the ones that take longer almost always produce better quality, some programs just integrate really crappy low quality profiles for the sake of speed.

I've done some considerable encoding using the more configurable and much harder to use encoder MeGUI, which is great when you want absolute control over your encode, but I wanted something simple that I could spend 2 mins on and press go for less important stuff I want to back up to disc but don't want to spend a lot of my own time on.

This software is it, the profile they use for highest quality is pretty darn close to the high quality profile I use in MeGUI, i can just load up a bunch of files on my encoding machine and then come back when it's done and burn the iso's.

Very Happy with it, it could use a few more configurable options for x264, based on profiles to take into account personal tastes, but as an easy to use blu-ray to BD5/BD9 converter nothing matches this.

I've used BDRB for over a year, and I recently ran into a problem converting a 25fps, 1080i mkv to AVCHD. Although I was able to fix the fps with TSMUXER, BDRB output looked 1/2 size on my PS3. AVCHDCoder allowed me to change output to 1080P and solved the problem. Even with the fastest decode, the image quality was very decent! I also like that this program has a manual explaining the options and settings. Although it's pretty intuitive for BDRB, I can't seem to find a comprehensive list of options and settings in the ini files for tweaking BDRB. Minor issue overall. Both programs are excellent for what they do and much appreciation for the effort from both authors! AVCHDCoder is a valuable addition to my tools library!

Being able to convert 25 fps to 23.976 in the program would be nice, since the tools are all there. Not criticizing, maybe a future 'feature' :-)

I think I have tried all apps proposed in the bluray rip & encode section of this site and avchd is the only one I'll keep using. The software is easy to use, it provides a complete solution from ripping to encoding to the right format & size. I was previously using a commercial software from xilisoft but the end result was somehow disappointing, I was always getting some video lag with fast moving images. AVCHD is slower, it took me 8 hours to build a 8Gb MKV file (2h20m movie) while it took me the same amount of time to encode 3 to 4 bluray with the stuff from xilisoft. I need to mention that I've been playing a game for an hour on the same computer while encoding the movie, I guess it would have been faster without playing that game.

I'm using a QuadCore Q6600 cpu (no overclocking), 6Gb of RAM, 8800GTX video card running under Vista 64 bits. Encoding priority was set to normal, my four cores were in use.

The author has put great effort into providing detailed instructions on configuration. New users should READ them. (!) Specifically, users are advised *NOT* to install any codec packs. The program provides links to tested versions of ffdshow, Haali, and AviSynth. How hard is that? There is even a handy configuration testing tool included to determine whether one's system can encode H.264, VC-1 and WMVHD.

Okay, the good:

1)It works, and is slightly more tolerant than BDRB. I say that because it encoded a damaged rip that BDRB rejected. Of course I did the job over anyway from the beginning, but thought I'd test it at the time.
2)It accepts a wide variety of file types/formats.
3) Free.

The not-so-good:

1) The download is pretty big. Partly this is a function of providing capability for encoding various file types, so more tools are required.
2) In my testing, chapter points were slightly off for a Blu-Ray encode (not the damaged one tested previously). Just a second or two, and perhaps a niggling point.
3) Workflow is a little cumbersome, but this is a matter of personal taste, and no doubt users get accustomed to it without much trouble.

Anyone who puts so much effort into useful freeware programs deserves thanks (and donations). So one hesitates to criticize too sharply. Anyway, it's a pretty good tool.

@below

On my dual core it only takes up to 24 hours*. More than 5 days means your system is not properly configured. Or your source device is slow (ripping via network is much slower for example)
*AMD Athlon X2 2.4GHz, 2GB Ram, output 1920x1080@23.976p and a movielength of 100-110 minutes.

Ignore the ignorant guy below who gave this program a bad review. This program is awesome & you can resize to 1280 x 720 or leave default 1920 x1080 these are the only two hi-def sizes for avchd!

This software is the easiest to use and best software for converting commercial blu-ray discs to DVD, DVD-DL, Blu-Ray25gb. It won't copy the menus but it will convert and blu-ray by copying the main movie file and compressing it to fit on the output source you select. It will even create an .iso image of the blu-ray formatted output. It even helps in selecting the output size by showing you the bit rate and a quality rating. Very easy to use too. This software is nothing short of amazing.

The option "crop-resize" doesn't exist ...
It's pitty, because it could be a useful programm.

This is the only program I have used so far that does not fail somehow in the attempt to compress blu-ray media to DVD+R DL sizes (8152MB). The other programs were either too difficult to use or crashed on the second encoding pass. On the highest quality settings, AVCHD will create a superb compressed copy of the original movie in 12 hours using an intel q9450 (quad core) that looks just like the original; more than worth the wait.

This is a great program, I put 2 HD home videos and it came out with menu, the only thing is there is no options for naming the titles. It just shows 1 (blank), 2 (blank).
