Don't laugh ;-) I just got a Samsung F480 and wanted to put a few of the million or so movies I've made over the years with my DigiCam on it. I'm neither a computer wizard nor a digital movie freak, but in about ten minutes I was able to convert avi and mpg movies that work perfectly on the phone and are excellent quality audio and video. There are two .exe files in the zip download, "setup" and the converter itself. When you run the "setup", you see it's actually the "Converter Configuration Manager". You have to run it first to designate the settings you actually want the converter to use. Each item on the list has a description of the setting. I'm afraid the English description isn't too good, but you get the idea. By the way, the program opens in (I guess) Japanese, but in the box on the bottom left you fine "English" and some other languages. I chose English ;-) For the settings, I chose "General: 3GPP+AAC General Setting", for which the description says "It is a setting that turns to a general, recent cellular phone". Then I clicked "Apply", the settings window disappeared and the main window (the converter) opened. I set an output directory and chose "QVGA Normal quality 15fps Stereo". Then I dragged a movie where it says "Drag&Drop files here" and whooosshhh! I did it with a couple of different movies, and the result was perfect every time. Considering that the program came out in 2005, I'd say the programmer(s) have produced a masterwork. My most sincere thanks to whomever was behind this excellent tool.

I got this to work with Vista. I could not drag and drop the files, I had to open the setup file and set it to the correct conversion, then close 3gp converter. I then used "open with" to open the video file with 3gp converter. It opened 3gp and started processing. Good luck!

I would like to modify the comment I made last time. The converter does allow batch conversion, it does this by dragging multiple files into the drag and drop window. All my preveious comments regaurding this converter still remains the same. I have changed the rating I have given it due to the new discoveries. As for compatability wise, I'm not sure why it doesn't work for some people on windows vista. Perhaps in time the developers will make this player more compatible.

Hi, I can't make this 3GP converter run in vista, any idea why ? Is there an other one I could use ? It used to work very well under XP yes.

Ok, at first glance, this program looks a bit shabby and unreliable. However, it fooled me realy well. For me, I was able to convert videofiles into ipod format with perfect sync and video quality(where other converters shifts the timing of the video/audio). What's more, some video files which I wasn't able to convert using other programs such as xilisoft was able to be converted with this. On xilisoft when i tried to convert this avi file I got an error message saying "damaged header" and the conversion finished prematurely. the 3GP converter just ripped through that problem like it doesn't exist. The only complaint that I have for it is that the program promotes you to make mistakes, lol. It allows you to select an output folder, but it puts the button and options under the drag and drop box, and the program automatically starts converting as soon as you drop something inside the box. also you would have to know what format you want your output file to be, or you'd be stuck with trial and error. I dont think this program allows you to batch convert, so you'd have to convert files one at a time. I dont recommend using this program as your main converter due to this reason, and I use it as a backup converter when other converters I have fails to do the job properly. Perhaps this program will be greater in time, but at the momment, it is already doing a heck of a good job.

Excellent tool, once I figured out which codec worked on my phone I was converting and viewing vids in no time. At QCIF High Quality 15fps Stereo a 350 meg file converted to around 90 meg. Good luck and don't give up on this tool just keep playing with the codecs until you find the one you need.

I've modified the Transcoding.ini for PS3 encoding. It works for 80% of the HD quicktime, wmv, avi, mpeg. However in case of some 1080p files it either it gives a/v sync issues or doesnt encode at all. However I'll still give it high rating for its fast encoding and amazing results and flexibility. If anybody wants this modified transcoding.ini for PS3 mail me at sachinwaliaATyahooDOTcom

I've submitted a tutorial. If the ones listed aren't adequate, try here: http://ipodlegends.com/free-video-to-ipod-converter/ very straight forward.

I am posting to report an "Error" on MY PART (earlier post)and not this program. Also to Apologize to the AUTHOR if he/she are monitoring this forum. After multiple tests I narrowed my Audio-Video Sync problem NOT to this program but AutoGK 2.37Beta. So, I am regrading this program as you can see. Great Program. Although I am not a big iPod user and occasionally do conversion as hobby, a very easy program to do dvd to iPod conversion. THANKS A LOT!

I used this tool to convert my "Memoirs of a Geisha" movie which I had converted to an .AVI to iPod format so I can watch it on my Train Ride. 3GP Converter 0.34 worked fine with no errors, I chose MPEG format from selection sinc ethis was my first try ... HOWEVER, when I played back my MPEG file there is a Noticeable Audio-Video Sync problem. Quality of Video was A-OK. So, there is some work need to be done on Synchronization. If the Author is reading this may be he/she can make some time and look into this. THANKS for a FREE Program.

Alright, this "newer" version isn't as good as the last one. It is way worse. The error most people get is that a cygingdlf or something to that matter is missing or there is a duplicate of the file, so the software will not convert. To download an older verion, type http://www.nurs.or.jp/%7Ecalcium/3gpp/3GP_Converter031.zip , because that is the converter that has no problems. Nurs needs to work on their cygingdlf to fix the latest problem.

This is a VERY good program for converting video to MP4. I had tried several other programs for converting some video to play on my PSP and all the other programs caused an audio sync problem, no matter what I did, no matter what format the video was in when I tried to convert it, the finished file always had a sync problem. With this program though, it couldn't have been simpler. Take the file to convert, drag it and drop it in the program window, sit back and wait. That's it. The quality is good, the audio was in sync. Great program.

I would consider this "free software", not "freeware" since the codecs and libraries that it uses are GPL/LGPL. Although, I don't know about the source code availability of the actual UI. I kept searching for a piece of software that would convert any video format to the 5G iPod video (H264 MPEG 4 Layer 10, AVC) format. All of the other tools were neither free as in free beer (shareware, free to try) nor free as in free speech (no availability of source code). This seems to be the only tool which is both. The value is incredible - all of the videos which I have converted (from various audio/video/container formats) now work on my iPod and at incredible quality - I use the 600kbps AVC setting (H264). I have tried VLC's x264 conversion facilities and MEncoder's x264 conversion facilities - The converted video plays on my computer but not on my iPod - so I do not know what I am doing wrong. So, until I get VLC to convert to iPod video correctly, this tool gets 2.5 thumbs up.

This was a very easy-to-use bit of software and the converted file was small and high-quality. I was watching high-quality video on my LG phone in no time!

Brilliant program and its FREE. I've triued numerous Mpeg/AVI to £gp programs and they either cost lots/produce a crap output and/or out of sync. 3GP Converter is a great piece of freeware. Just put The Mummy on my phone and looks great !
