easySUP

NEW VERSION 0.5

NO LONGER DEVELOPED
easySUP is a small tool to help users create nice (BD) SUP, (DVD) SUB or BDN (XML+PNG) subtitles, which can later be used with applications which support SUP format (import in tsMuxeR, multiAVCHD , Scenarist or any other tool). It is kind of an extended GUI to avs2bdnxml + avisynth + vsfilter + bdsup2sub and should make users' life easier. Input formats: Text based subtitles: SSA, ASS, SRT, microDVD SUB. Output formats:Picture based subtitles: Blu-ray PGS (sup), DVD SUB (idx+sub) and BDN (xml+png).

It is improving. I use it for generating subtitles in PNG with alpha channel, starting from a srt subs file and it worked out perfectly well. It save me a lot of time, instead of having to copy and paste from doc to text generated in Vegas, I use the srt file with default time codes (2 seconds) and generate the PNG. Then use the 32 bit rar the program generate and voila, I have my png to include in the NLE. Thanks and hope there will be development.

Didn't really work. Had to abandon it. Granted, I am trying to do something relatively complex (subs for people taking part in a 40 minute recorded presentation and Q&A session), but it's not outside the realms of handlability - Textsub managed to overlay them on a DivX, but I need them softcoded to DVD too, and for that I need to convert my SSA to a SUP.

easySUP failed, unfortunately. It got further than Subtitle Creator or MaestroSBT, in that it actually managed to load the file and initially display some of the subs from it, but then it quickly went downhill and showed some serious bugs. For a start, serious innaccuracy with selecting which sub I clicked on and putting it on the screen, until after only about 20 or so selections it either simply didn't match, changed at random (things not even on the same scroll page appearing), or locking up altogether. The formatting controls did nothing. No way to change styles that I could find. It kept trying to assume I was making a 720p blu-ray for some reason even after I told it a few times it was a 576i DVD. Etc. Plus some of the subs came up in completely the wrong colours, which is something of an achievement for what has already been proven to be a completely properly-formatted SSA file with three main text colours and three secondaries (=max of 15 colours including outline, antialiasing, and a shadow should it be allowed), and only ever two different colour subpics on screen at once (so, supposedly easily-handled...). The three-colour-only one I whizzed up didn't work right either.

Also it comes with a fairly comprehensive but unillustrated and somewhat impenetrable manual, with the only troubleshooting being for timecode compensation.

Pretty bad show, but it is only v0.4 ... hopefully the author can make it, yknow, actually work by the time 1.0 rolls round.
