If you can get any version of this(except the perfect 5.x!)to work without crashing, I'd buy it! Not going to happen!

I guess it's finally time to put this amazing piece of software to pasture and may it rest in peace. I have been using Version 5 since 2013 and it was a flawless tool for encoding, never updated to versions 6 or 7 since they are very unstable and unworthy, but I never had to anyways, version 5 always worked flawlessly regardless of what you threw at it. But that's not the case anymore, it is showing its age and has become very cumbersome to work with, it's a shame that this particular version has been left to wither away, like tears in rain, you shall be missed and thank you for all the great encodes, good bye.

It's actually now trialware, which nags you when time is up to buy it. Don't use it unless you need to for its newer features, but instead use the last 5 version totally freeware, like others have said before, it is a masterpiece of software and will work in XP to Win10.

Awful software and to correct the fanboy rant below the 5.x version was the best of all this crap series, but it encoded terrible slow whatever option unlike XMediaRecode.

XmediaRecode is vastly superior to the crap you are praising. Even the hackers/crackers can't be bothered with Xvid4psp. Why? Because it's garbage!"

It's garbage when the program made the jump to 6.0. While it was still 5.0, this was the definitive frontend to Avisynth. No other video encoder could surpass or even match its capabilities. Look up Avisynth and see what you've been missing. Compared to this, your XmediaRecode is utter pig swill. Just another stupid commercialware that does what free Handbrake has been doing for ages.

Confusion comes that XviD4PSP version 5 and higher versions 6,7,8 are two different kind of software. They don't have anything in common, as they are two different branches and designs. XviD4PSP 5 is free and the only one worth using it. It is masterpiece of video conversion software, better than any other software around even commercial one. On Windows xp or 7 it works perfectly. On Win 10 it can work too, you just need spent time to make it work.

I just read all reviews and lol it really gives no desire to buy this software ....
Except that i've been years using it and despite being a bit buggy in version 7 and 8 it has always served me for what I need:
take a movie in mkv, copy the video, copy the soundtracks FR if they are in DTS and AC3, encode the FR soundtracks in AC3 if they are in another format like AAC or E-AC3 and keep DTS FR but encode it in Ac3 too and finally keep all the subtitles.
To summarize I want to get mkv with the original video and the sound FR in AC3 and all subtitles + possibly the DTS if present in the original mkv
And than ..... the software able to realize these encodings are ..... XVID4PSP and ..... Xmedia Recode
Except that Xmedia Recode is even more buggy and is much less practical.
then I often need to cast some movies from my computer to my TV except that I have to turn the mkv into MP4 and the only one but really the only one that keeps the video track and the soundtrack synchronized is XVID4PSP
Then i'm little bit tired of all those who want all for free who do not want to spend a simple euro of those who use only cracked software .... I understand theire hate there is no crack for XVID4PSP.

I paid my license 7 euros lol I added 3 for tips
For info I have not managed to bug the 7.0.495 version

I'm really surprised that previous reviewer raises some grnuine concerns about this software, yet gives a generous 8/10 score! The software is crap in both its free or paid version. The last 5.0x version was fine, but not without it's problems too- it crashed on my system a few times, but ever since then has this software been any better? No, and now if you are foolish to pay for it you get the pleasure of saying "I paid to see this Not Work!" The trial version of this a joke as well!

I used Xvid4PSP during the free period, but the fact that it suddenly became a paid program overshadowed the project itself. When he changed the interface, he still had some bugs regarding audio conversion to m4a, and sometimes crashed when we were going to apply some image enhancement filters, plus the video player built into it sometimes caused the program to close suddenly (of course this may have been fixed throughout the rest of the updates). I believe that even for advanced users, the program left a little to be desired, as it is possible to provide a broad and advanced tool with a slightly simpler interface, but the fact that it suddenly becomes paid software without notice. , made me look for other free alternatives (virtualdub2 for example), basically speaking as a user, I do not see at first why to pay for such a program.

Truly awful, not free and a most confusing to navigate GUI. Always in beta and full of bug ridden code which gets worse and worse with each newer release. Who would pay for this in this state- an idiot?

Review by Allan .W on Jul 28, 2019 Version: 7.0.490 OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ease of use: 1/10 Functionality: 1/10 Value for money: 1/10 Overall: 1/10

Unlike other users, I haven't experienced any stability issues. As a longtime Version 5 user, I've tried the other versions in the past few years, but 5 was the best of them. But 5 is starting to show some signs of aging -- problems decoding TS files, fo instance.

Yes, it is no longer freeware, but it's only $14 US. I figure since I've been using it for free for years and years, it's a small price to pay. I haven't tried version 8, but have been using version 7 for a few weeks.

First off, any mention of "simple to use" should be ignored. It's the most confusing interface I've come across in many years. Combine that with the fact that there is no user guide nor support makes it a trial-and-error learning curve. I've finally found a method to consistenly get good results, but I don't mess around with subtitles -- I use SRT files and make MKV files after Xvid4PSP has rendered it.

As far as rendering, I find it is faster than 5 -- actually it is faster than a lot of other apps I've used, but I have a very fast machine so maybe it can use the extra CPUs more efficiently.

It's way better than version 5 displaying a realtime preview and selecting partial sections to render or cutting and pasting, and keeping you apprised of the encoding process. And you can access difffeent menus while it's encoding, a nice feature. But I haven't found a way to batch-process, like Version 5's Enqueue feature. Maybe it's just hiding.

I only do pretty simple renders with it, like converting MKV or TS or MPEG 2 formats to MP4, and for that it works fine for me. The support issue has existed since the beginning of time, so that's not unexpected, just disappointing. But a simple guide pointing out the different functions of the main interface would be good.

I wanted to use it for hardsubbing some subtitles. All I managed was a video, where you couldn't jump and the subtitles which began in the first second were omitted. I must admit this was more than I got out of version 6, but if anyone wants an easy to use tool for video conversion, I suggest sticking with version 5.10.305.0
Windows may tell you some crap about compatibility problems, but it still works like a charm.

I must admit, it HAS a lot of options, though.

Absolutely a woeful program which has become a total travesty. The last 5 version is superb, no doubt. I once tried the last 6 branch version which is portable and what a big nightmare to basically input a file. Terrible, so went back to the dead easy 5 version's gui.

Thought I'd give the newer version a try. Wish I hadn't, so back to freeware 5. This 7.x branch must be the death knell for this once great software!

I still use the excellent last release candidate of the 5.x branch. All version since then have proved to be unstable and now the guy is charging for his software, but calling it freeware. Crippledware/shareware call it what you will, I don't see people queuing up to purchase a fuller version of this, especially when it is so buggy.

I just tried the latest version: 7.0.482
Requires an internet connection!
Why was the internet connection mandatory?
Before, I could download the executable to every new release version and use it, even on a PC without a connection.
Now, if I want to use it on a PC without a connection, what can I do?

I tried to start the latest version as soon as it was released 7.0.481.
But, the trial period screen appears immediately!
Asking to do the PRO update!
Shouldn't it work for free in the trial period? I do not understand!
Besides, I also wanted to upgrade to PRO, you don't understand how to do it! It does not insert an email address and you cannot continue!
Then, it is not known if donation is accepted through PAYPAL!

Now the guy is charging for it! Well some additional features! Okay, he works hard at maintaining it etc etc, but you see the most important thing is that it must work in the first place, before I spend my hard earned pennies. The cheek of it to ask people to pay for it when it never worked that great in the first place apart from the superb last 5.x version

I reserve the right to use equally buggy AviDemux instead and complain, because it is free, so I've lost no dosh. Seriously they are both rubbish now. Stick with Handbrake.

I like the software. It works great, but it looks like it's not FREEWARE anymore. When you try to start up the software a Window pops up asking for you to purchase PRO. There seems no way to run the software without purchasing it. Also you cannot download it from the developers web site anymore. A screen pops up saying "Package Is Not Available".

A great piece of free software.

The only issue I have is when using 'Copy Stream' to copy .ts video to MPEGTS or MP4 after trimming but never completed successfully as it always freezes or crashes soon after the copy starts. Same happens even when using the version 7, and any previous build of version 8.

it's not that great, coming from the older 5.10.330 vers.

it's a hot mess at best. Just to many things on the screen. they could have just left it alone and added the better trimming feature they put in w/ 8.0.44; along w/ x265 codec.

The 8.0.44 Limits how many actually Threads you can Use w/ your CPU. The Fast 1st Pass is just broken. Vers 5 is about 1hr vs Vers 8 Which is like 12hrs w/ the Same Settings in Vers 5

Finally a release that can output something without crash on my system, file scanning still take a time but not really major issue (enough time to make a cup of tea), clearly the dev aim to create all in one audio video encoder for both pro and beginner.

here the problem:
if dev release some new update you will have no choice except to update or program will close
if you decide to update anyway the program will crash and close anyway
so best to use firewall and denied its accessing your internet

dev still have long way to go to make this program reach the finish.

That's why they call it a daily release, because there is a version nearly every day with some bug or other. Why not beta test it for a while, then release a more stable version? If I remember rightly all previous versions were crap like this. Only the 5.x was ever any good.

Program was actually pretty good but 8 would not work for me. I tried it on 2 systems & the same error (in Russian) kept appearing when trying to configure the codec.

Since then, the developer has taken all links down & made the program private (even on the older versions). Not sure where it's all going from here on! Developer site is locked down so can't register & there is no contact details so as to ask them. All they have put up seems to be a Skype address in one of the comments.

Program definitely had potential. Nowhere near as comprehensive as the likes of Staxrip, Hybrid, FFmpeg etc but still a decent program.

I have encountered major problems with the latest version 8.0.8.
When I go to "configure encoder", both video, audio and subtitles, it gives me error! So, it is impossible to configure them and customize them as it was with previous versions!
I hope the problem is solved, because the program is not usable.

What a masterpiece version 5 is [the latest being 5.10.346.0_rc34.2] it is a ridiculously amazing encoder. I've used it flawlessly in both Windows 7 and Windows 10 64bit. Unfortunately it is getting up there in age as the latest update is from back in 2015. I wish the developer would keep working on this specific version rather than the new iterations which crash constantly.

In my opinion, the best program to manage video files.
But I encountered a problem that crashes the program. Converting mkv files from x264 to x265 the program does not finish the conversion but after a while (random) the program is closed (crash) and the video file created obviously has a shorter duration than the original file. But this does not happen if I use the software version 7.0.256 with this version, the conversion works perfectly even if some improvements are missing.

After the flawless 5 version wft happened with the 6 to 7 versions. You can't blame Windows system file incompatibility especially when portable versions are available of these versions and they often crash or fail in someway. Bad code that's all! I would say to the developer go back to your last 5 version and perhaps see if you can enhance that by some adding h265 compatability. 5 version works in Win10 so not necessary and h265 is not final yet to replace h264 as the daddy.

I don't have any problems with this version 7.0.* software crashing, for about 2 years. It's my go-to for audio only encoding of video files. Try reinstalling windows, without any extra MS Visual C++ versions and see how it runs. I've trashed my system with those before, and when it gets bad enough, things don't run.

A severely bug ridden program, if not for the constant efforts to keep putting it right it would be half decent but a clear 1/10 until these bugs are solved. Not likely!
However 10/10 for the flawless older 5.x version, unfortunately that is not fully compatible with Win10, so I use it in Win7 or Xp on my older laptops when I want to encode. Cheers!

I will don't use it anymore! After two Days crashes at the end. I converted An M2TS container with x264 content to raw x264 2-Pass encoding. At the end of the second pass it shows 100% but crashes. For Movies with over two hours runtime, nobody should be use it anywhere. Why? Why it will simply fail to open his input file for the second pass.
So after months of using this application, i can only say there is still a long, long way to go until we can speak about a use full and high quality all-in-one program. So don't say that please. Its a waste of time. Rely!!!!

This one has a very good potential. Unfortunately, the dev programs every build with a predefined working period, constraining users to download a newer build, thus even if there is no currently new build available to download ! Try ShanaEncoder, it's the best alternative to this kind of conversion software. It also supports avisynth+ and includes fdkaac.

1.
At some video problem it is done by using FRebuilder from tools menu to rebuild: mkv files too mp4 or mp4 to mkv .If this get error all its is good and video file do not need to "f-rebuilder".
Other video files the problem is resolved by using FRebuilder from tools menu to rebuild: mkv files too mkv or mp4 to mp4 and , again after that, MkvMerge ( add comand and start muxing ) ; file resulted put in XviD4PSP and encode .
To be clear test smal segment of file before

Been trying different audio/video encoders for the past 2-3 days trying to find a replacement for SuperC as any version above build35 of SuperC is just terrible. Xvid4PSP is so far a excellent replacement. I'm using version 5.0.37.8_r132, so far its been very comforatable to use although joining video files together was kind of confusing to start with. Apart from that great! For those wondering how to join video files;

- Open the files you want to join then go to File > Join File..
- Browse and select the files you want to join then click "ok"

There is a bug with ALL recent 5.0 releases of XviD4PSP when running on 64 bit Windows 7.
When encoding a .mp4 or .avi encoded with AAC audio to AC3 the audio track is blank (silent). The output audio encoding doesn't make any difference.
Using exactly the same version in Windows XP 32 bit works fine.
I have tried the following versions: 5.10.234.0 (16.4.2011), 5.10.268.0 (26.10.2011), and 5.10.271.0 (07.11.2011).

It appears to be some sort of issue with avisynth and the bassAudio plugin.
Demux works fine - I can hear the audio
Save to WAV creates a file BUT I get no audio when I play the created file.
Looking at the logs, the SCRIPT section shows that with 64 bit Windows 7, the loadplugin(.....bassAudio.dll) line is missing, presumably because the import(...AudioFunctions.avs) line failed. Also there is no AudioDub line, probably because they is no audio track.

So, in conclusion, I believe that version 5.10 is unusable in 64 bit windows 7 if the source file has AAC audio (which is nearly ALL HD video these days).

I've been using the ole version 5 for a while to down convert audio tracks. It has a neat feature where you could also convert to Stereo or any other variable. From 6 channel to 2 or to Pro Logic etc. Unfortunately, unless I'm not looking in the right place, in Version 6 this feature has been removed. You can still down convert to any bitrate you want but the 6 channel to 2 channel feature has been removed. That's a shame. It was a feature I used on a frequent basis. I guess I'll just have to go back to Version 5 and stick with it.

iv'e bin using version 5.10.234 and the only problems with it is it log alot and every time you put one video to convert you can't see the video file your converting on till you press encode and when put the resolution the 480*272 it take so long and it stuck a lot but it always converts the video awesome

version 6.03.3177 is the best in so many ways the interface is amazing but it still take long to convert like v5 in R 480*272 but the biggest problem for me is the videos are converting with some strange lines in them and looks completely different from the source video when the source video Resolution is less them 480*272 or 680 to say 800 pixel the lines are in the video and it look bad and liney but if it is 1280*720 the quality of the video very good and normal just like the input video and the same quality that V5 would give what could be wrong i think i found the problem but first this is still a beta right so it still being worked on. The (interpolation)in V6.03.3177 filter setting has 11 setting but the best is set to (LANCZOS) and the pixel format has two setting in (YUV420P)the line are there VERY STRONG but when you change the pixel format to (YUVJ420P) the are still there but NOT SO STRONG now in V5 the (interpolation)in V5 is called (RE SIZE FILTER) and has 14 setting and buy default it is set to (LANCZOS4RESIZE) but doesn't have a pixel setting and the video converted in this setting all come out perfect so to fix the problem in V6.03.3177 you need to add (LANCZOS4RESIZE) to V6.03.3177 filter setting i believe the word re size in (LANCZOS4RESIZE) means when your changing the resolution of a video from a low Resolution or high resolution the pixel will re size the video and keep the the source quality so as i stated to fix the problem thay need to add (LANCZOS4RESIZE) to V6.03.3177 filter setting PLEASE fix it i really really love using V6.03.3177

Odd/misleading name, "Xvid4PSP", considering it encodes for just about every device. I personally use it for encoding mp4 videos for my iPod, but I have also encoded videos for Nintendo DS (NDS), and PlayStation Portable (PSP).

NDS (Nintendo DS):
Xvid4PSP could not measure up to Moonshell's DpgEnc. The audio was really rough with Xvid4PSP. DpgEnc had perfect audio, so it remains my dpg encoder.

MP4 (iPod/iPhone):
I've used this program in the past to encode many episodes of "Charmed" which I've been watching on my iPod Touch 4. It's been great. The video and audio quality have been top notch. However, recently with XVid4PSP version 5, the audio quality is suddenly "buzzy" and slightly irritating. It reminds me of the bad audio I was getting from the Nintendo dpg video encodes. I hope this is a bug that gets fixed. I am currently trying out the latest beta version 6.x hoping it is already fixed.

The interface is decent, but not ideal for me. But it gets the job done. I would prefer a more standardized Windows look and feel.

I would like to see options for default tag editing of the encoded file, particularly with iPod/iPhone videos. I had to manually edit the tags (using Mp3Tag) to make my TV shows show up under "TV Shows" instead of "Movies". But if it automatically pulled out that info from the filename and added it to the tags, it would be outstanding!

Installed and ran it. Worked fine. But: After closing the program all the executables in the installation dir were gone. Deleted, no recovery possible. Re-installed and tried again. Opened an .mkv file, open file failed because "DirectShowSource not available" (something like that), although I have all the required tools installed. After closing the prog the executables were gone again. I dont know why, but I deleted the remaining files as well.

After all, for those who get it to work it may be fine. IMHO, 170+ mb install size is too much, though.

It's not just for PSP! I've been looking for a decent tool to backup some dvds and do some recodes. This tool is extremely easy to use. I had problems with a particular (bad) conversion that was interlaced and this came through easily. I LOVE how it processes discs: The navigation pane brings up single titles instead of a bunch of VOBs, and parses Bluray play lists automatically. the available formats and presets are adequate for me and the interface is quite beautiful...unlike most free tools. May have to pack up RipBot264 as well.

But, can you please make AC3 compatible with the MP4 preset, or at least give an option to remove that freaking warning sign that pops up every time it goes to cache the video, it gets really tiresome to click the OK box when you've got 20+ videos on it. I'm not sure why it's not supported in the first place, ac3 has been compatible with ps3 for years now.

and if you are not the one updating it can you tell me who is, or pass that message along to them?

For previous poster: Not all the tools presented here are free so rating system is done the same way for all of them free or not free.

This is an awesome piece of software, it gives me "almost" the best x264 quality possible (the only competitor I find worth mentioning is Mpegstreamclip who gives somewhat sharper and fuller image at same bitrate as Xvid4psp).
Any version above 5.037 crashes on my Vista 64 8G Ram Core 2 Quad. It keeps telling me it can't load some filters so I am staying with the version I mentioned, won't trade it for another encoder, this one is simply great. It uses Avisynth so deinterlacing and resizing is simply great.

Big thank you to the developer!

A great utility that has pretty much all the features you'd ever need in a video encoder. I really just wish that V5 was still kept updated.
Great user interface: extremely well laid out and easy to use, yet also gives you all the options you need as a power user.
It is of course oriented towards encoding for mobile devices, but I find that with the FCP I can use it as a good encoder in place of MeGUI for encoding anime RAWs off TS streams and etc. It handles all the DGIndex, audio cutting, and muxing crap and stuff for you, but lets you edit the AviSynth script for more advanced users.

Why do have to give value for money when you have to form your post when this is freeware, give it 10 for that anyway? Anyway this is slick looking software which would be quite superb if it worked. It crashes on choosing avisynth filters in video as well as throwing up error in logs. Over complicated and has no guides with it. Loads of bugs and needs sorting out drastically. Shame really as I have never seen as much stuff incorporated in to one complete package, result though too cluttered and buggy!

Stick with reliably superb AutoGK and excellent AviREcomp is my advice or AutoMen/HDConvertToX

I found this program very slick, it crashed on my Windows7 but work like a charm on vista converting mkv files to avi in full glory AC3 and HD xvid. As my old media player is so fussy with avi files. I was looking for this kind of tools in the past I had to make do with a boring WMA format as a workarround. Nice one..

As easy as can be for a noob. Load file, select encoding preset and encode.

For an advanced user-the flexibility is unlimited. with the E buttons you can modify selected presets (except device specific ones)to custom presets. If you look into subfolders of the installation, you can easily figure out the way to make your own presets. You can also tweak the avisynth parameters with AvsP.

Its x264 presets are excellent (they can be modified to a custom preset, you can add presets as well). Last but not the least, it is the only xvid encoder i have seen which comes with a long list of custom matrices that you can use and you can add your own, if your favorite isn't in the list.

x264 has had major upgrades during the last month. Hope XviD4PSP is upgraded to latest x264 soon with additional presets to take advantage of upgrades in x264

After using tons of converters and encoders, I stumbled upon this tool and I absolutely love it (the name originally confused me but this does waaay more than Xvid for PSP). You can convert to a whole bunch of containers and codecs from individual files or from a DVD folder. Conversion is fast (well, the actual conversion is done by x264 or other native codec binary, so it is as fast as the original codec is), and settings are plenty. I really like the control this tool offers over the whole conversion process. Also, the ability to pass-through (copy) audio/video without reencoding is pretty sweet as well. Fairly stable so far as well. Definitely recommended if you've been using tools like Mediacoder, AutoMKV, AutoGK or other DVD/Video converter tools.

I'm not sure why this tool is called XviD4PSP, as it will convert just about anything to just about anything.

I have been using this to convert 720p MKV files to HD Xvid (720p, 2 pass) and it works perfectly.

There are pre-defined profiles you can use, or you can set up your own, with control over the most minor of codec settings.

It's maybe not suitable for the complete video "noob", but those who want complete control over their conversions will like this...

This application is very useful and does its job fairly well. It's as simple as choosing your media file and clicking encode. I do have a couple of gripes though. I like GUIs that are organized and make it easy to find everything you're looking for which XviD4PSP does not accomplish. Also, after I installed RC2 it would crash every time I tried to execute it. I had to uninstall XviD4PSP and reinstall it without launching after each respective installation.
