I've used Super before with success. But THIS version - OMG!!! I just bought a new laptop and as soon as I installed Super, I got infected with a fake-alert virus. It was so bad I had to use the "recovery" option to reinstall the system and start over from scratch. BTW, your "older programs" appear to be totally different software (not SUPER). Might want to check that out.

The trick to installing Super is to turn off your internet connection. It will give an error message that it cannot download additional components. Click next to continue the installation anyway. The "additional components" are actually the adware that is offered by Open Candy. You can also try this trick with other bundle-ware utilities. It is recommended that after you install Super that you reinstall the latest codec pack from K-lite or whatever you use as some of the codecs in Super could be older versions...

@ texangirl I'm not a codec pro, I just like to check from time to time if my laptop (i7-3740QM @ 2.70GHz) can play some strange or new formats :-). I downloaded two VP9 video only samples - small and easy from here: http://base-n.de/webm/VP9%20Sample.html and UHD (13.2Mbps, 3840x2160) from here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?111230-Google-VP9-4K-HD-Sample . The first one I can play and skip back/forward with a mouse easily (it's just 132kbps) using PotPlayer, MPC-HC and MPC-BE. MPC-BE crashes, when I try to play the file again. The second one crashes MPC-BE 1.3.1 4415 beta. PotPlayer 1.5 45342 dev. beta can play it with its internal codec (based on FFmpeg - 100% CPU, or on LibVPX - 35-50%). When skipping with a mouse I need to wait a while till it buffers to the point on the playback slider. The cars go with soft jumps, more with LibVPX. MPC-HC 1.7.3.21 nightly with internal LAV (0.60.1.22, it's based on FFmpeg too) - the same symptoms as FFmpeg in PotPlayer. Probably I need to find a smaller, but more dynamic test sample. That UHD is a bit extreme :-)

@ AllisOne I am encoding successfully with super various files into HEVC and VP9 I use the latest LAV 0.60.1 and While HEVC is perfectly played under DirectShow, VP9 hangs up after the first frame. I run Win 8-64 Are you able to play VP9 flawlessly with DirectShow ?

@ mason LAV Filters (they are x86 and x64)can play HEVC and VP9. But Strongene Lentoid (only x86) decoder seems to use much less CPU: http://xhevc.com/en/hevc/decoder/download.jsp . Unzip it on your hard drive and register with reg.bat file. Apart from HEVC decoder you'll get FLV splitter and MP4 demuxer/splitter moded for HEVC and HEVC source filter.

I also tested both HEVC/H.265 and the VP9 codec. I got excellent results with both of them, to my opinion, better then H.264 however there are few things that could be optimized: 1) HEVC/H.265 quality at about 2400kbps is Awesome and output file size is smaller than H.264 for the same resolution and bitrate, however encoding time is double. 2) VP9 has also excellent quality, but encoding time is 40% more 3) unlike H.264 I couldn't manage to find a DirectShow codecs to play my VP9.MKV or my HEVC.MP4 with AviSynth, anyone is aware of some DirectShow codecs supporting HEVC & VP9 --mason

Maybe the interface is a bit rude at first but then once you get the logic it's quite easy. I agree that the first habits might take at least...20min (wow) to come, but then it's straightforward, that's why I rated a 8. Plus, as mentionned below, it kept its interface for years now, so once you get it, where is the issue ? Regarding functionality, well it works ! when I get the error messages, it's simply because I've messed up containers or rates or that I tried to encode something that is not right ! that might be the improvement to make, maybe a guide to show what are the wrong configurations for encoding. But again, straightforward features, last updates always added nice ones. HEVC is one of them and it's great ! I tried VP9 but prefered HEVC. I rated a 9 since it always works and when it doesn't, it's because it shouldn't. For last rating, you are gonna laugh but gess what: something that works, that get nice updates with new options, that is easy to use (once you try for 20min I agree), and that is FREE, gets a simple 10.

On occasion I like to refer people to my comments regarding my communications with the mystery entities behind SUPER - see the link at the bottom to a previous post here. A couple of things have changed on the site - I don't see the links to the non-accessible forums anymore but most of it still applies. Doing a WhoIs check instead of some non-existent address in Ky it comes up with an address I can't find in Cyprus - though I do find Agios Mamas in Cyprus. There actually is a name associated with it now. You can try and see if any of the e-mail addresses referenced on the site work. They still respond to the Spyware/Malware question about the software by referring you to reports regarding their website. From the FAQ related to SUPER http://www.erightsoft.com/faqt.html " Q.033 After or during the installion of SUPER © my Anti-vir, Anti-adware, Anti-spyware, Anti-malware warned me of some sort of malware threat. Why is that? A. Our entire web servers are 100% clean of any malicious code. " Whois info: Registrant Name: Fred Martinbaker Registrant Street: Potovatalis 4 Registrant City: Agios Mamas Registrant State/Province: Agios Mamas Registrant Postal Code: 4741 Registrant Country: Cyprus Registrant Phone: +357.998741471 http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER?nextcomments=25&orderby=#9750

SUPER C) is definitely not for novice, it provides a huge number of codecs and functionalities that surpasses by far AviDemux. @sambat: "The head scratching maze interface" as you qualified it, has been EXACTLY the same since 2005. either you like or not, in fact it is the most straight forward and punctual interface for doing what the program has been designed to do. but one amazing thing amongsts every and each negative post that I would really love to get at least 1 and 1 unique answer. Users that find this program lousy and useless would legitimately rank ZERO for 'Ease of use', ZERO for 'Functionality' or even a big ZERO for the 'Overall score'. But being a totally free program, why the heck they rate 2 or 4 when it comes to 'Value for money'. Rating 2/10 means they lost 80% of what they paid for !, but they paid nothing, nada! @sambat, remember you could anytime opt out the third party recommendations, which is really a simple as a "mouse click", and done no more additional installs!

If you are a trusting sort or perhaps a Novice in a Nunnery, go ahead and embrace this horror. It warns you up front (if you care to read it) that it it will install additional programs that you will find great difficulty in removing. The interface of the actual converter is a head scratching maze that defies intuition but if you can negotiate your way through it, it might give you the desired output. Overall a piece of work that left me wanting to slash my wrists. Thank God I installed this horror under Sandboxie;one click of the mouse and it was flushed, as all steaming turds should, down the black hole. AviDemux is the better (and saner) option.

HEVC codec with 808:608 pixel is quite enough for me here. At least it is working, fast and stable, unlike anything else I tried till today. I tested some VOB inputs and some other AVIs and FLVs.. they all encoded fine. Plus, I do not know (till today) any other freeware with fully working HEVC/H265 and VP9 so I gave it 10 !

The largest resolution with HEVC codec is only 808*608 pixel.

I've just installed version "v2013.build57 + Recorder (July 13, 2013)" First step (after agreeing to install third party bits and pieces that may in turn install toolbars): an InstallPath Install Manager. Cancelling this gives the option to quit or continue, with a (already-ticked) box to "resume installation on next Windows startup". Quitting will launch a web page (http://www.installpath.com/thankyou-installation-interrupted.html). You can, after this, click Next (on the original Setup box) to install SUPER itself, as far as I can tell without any unwanted payload. Overall score is a 5 due to the booby-trapped installer, otherwise it would get a 9.

I can't put the video and audio bitrate that I want, I can't choose mencoder instead of FFmpeg, It can´t burn in subtitles... this software advertising is wrong, other free softwares can do it much better than this one. Unistalling...

@arizonastar: Open your eyes: SUPER is ad-ware - it's even mentioned in the description! During the set up it asks for user permission to install a lot of crap, but as far as I know it installs much more than it affirms to. Probably, this is how they make money. It's more scam than useful software. Regarding quality... it's not outstanding, it's not even good. It is hard enough to set up an encoder properly and this ui doesn't help much. Development is going slowly and sporadically and with no remarkable improvement. I wouldn't wonder if the changes only affect the ad-ware part. Everyone should at least try to look for alternatives. There are so many good front-ends out there. No need to waste time with this junk!

Lot of rumers and buzz about adware that i never ever noticed since 2009, but it has been always like this with this freeware. I was always wondering about this freeware initially released in 2005 where users claim finding Adware, Spyware and trojans and stuff... but in the meantime, it is still hosted since its first day on Videohelp, brothersoft, afterdawn, softpedia, chip.de and many other download sites sites. This SUPER uses FFmpeg and MEncoder like all other encoders but it is still very easy to use and extremely rich in terms of codecs and formats. You get the quality of your settings. If I speak for myself, I am getting outstanding quality on my fast Win7-64 machine. It is a very good freeware and has been here for the past 8 years.

I wish I could give this negative numbers. SUPER made a name for itself years ago, but it has now gone to total shit. It is loaded with adware and the user interface is a complete disaster. DO NOT INSTALL THIS PIECE OF CRAP
