Easy to use budget priced editor with a surprising amount of pro features. Does everything I need it to do and then some. Great for beginning to intermediate users. Excellent support group as well.

I tried creating the same project on a variety of video editing platforms. Very quickly I found the limitations of each one - or atleast with in the context of the features I wanted.

Edit Studio by far had the easiest interface to learn, and a great set of features that go beyond most of the others out there.

ES does not do DVD authoring, nor does it have fancy music included like some of the off-the-shelf retail programs. But it makes up for that in features. You have up to 7 layers (with the Home version) and an enormous amount of effects that can be performed. (PIP, slo-mo, reverse, autofade, etc)

The free trial works just like the full version except for it puts a watermark on your final video. If you're seeking to spend your money wisely and want a good video editing application with good support, give it a shot.

I am still using EditStudio 2 only because my computer will not do any better. I have tried other budget systems, and Premier 5.1 and found this programme by far the best.

I create a lot of small movies for the intenet from a digital camera, as well as telecineing old movies. I use EditStudio for editing them all.

The time line layering needs a bit of practise, but is quite logical.

Herbs are great as one can create ones own scene changing look.

As for the back up forum, it is a model which many other software companies could use.

If you see this programme slagged off in a computer magazine, ignore it and try it for yourself. A trial download is available.

Prompt and helpful tech support. Regular updates. Does everything I wanted it to do and if anything goes wrong it's nice knowing someone cares to answer your questions.

Review by mishkagogo on Feb 25, 2004 Version: 4.1.3 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 8/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

Have used EditStudio since version 2. Very flexible to use and reasonably intuitive. Good timeline and multi-layering. Builds finished video into a decent range of formats - DV, DVD, WMV etc. and more with plug-ins VCD/MPEG1 is noticably not as good as TMpeg (but then what is?). Control of DV decks is included but has proved flakey for some models of DVCam.
Perhaps the main criticism is the way EditStudio uses effects - these are called "toppings" and you drag any number of effects onto the timeline and place it over the piece of video. Most effects are easy to use but for rostrum-type pans and zooms the operation is tedious and often doesn't work properly.
That said, Edit Studio is much better than anything else I have used and remains my primary video editor package.
