Converting AVI to MPEG-2 with AviSynth and TMPGEnc Xpress

This is a how-to guide for converting (transcoding) Windows AVI video files into high-quality DVD-compliant MPEG-2/AC3 format with AviSynth and TMPGEnc Xpress. Resulting MPEG-2/AC3 format files can be readily authored and "burned" to DVD recordable. AviSynth frameserving of source material overcomes TMPGEnc Xpress problems.

AVSEdit - AviSynth for the scripting impaired

AVSEdit is the official script editor for AviSynth. It provides an easy interface to write and preview scripts, making AviSynth more accessible to beginners and advanced users alike. If you've always wanted to use AviSynth, but have been intimidated by the lack of a GUI, or if you just want to make scripting a little easier, you should give AVSEdit a try.

DVD to XviD Conversion using DVD2AVI,AviSynth,Virtualdub

This guide is to assist you in converting DVD to XviD. XviD is a freeware version of the MPEG-4 codec. It allows for excellent quality encodes at very low bitrates. You can typically place a full length movie onto one or sometimes two CD-R's, using full DVD resolutions.

Using a frameserver between Premiere and TMPGEnc

Although most people recognise TMPGEnc's excellent encoding quality, and many are willing to put up with its long encoding times, it's sometimes not possible (and rarely if ever practical) to export your entire project to an AVI file and then load that file into TMPGEnc. Ideally TMPGEnc should be able to work as a plug-in to video editing programs, allowing the editor to export directly to MPEG-2 from the timeline. Unfortunately this is not possible, but there is a process that's close enough (as long as you're editing in Adobe Premiere version 5 or above): frame serving.

OLD How to edit with AVISYNTH

Avisynth is a very useful utility created by Ben Rudiak-Gould. It provides many options for joining and filtering videos. What makes Avisynth unique is the fact that it is not a stand-alone program that produces output files. Instead, Avisynth acts as the "middle man" between your videos and video applications.
