How to Add Text Effects and Unicode Characters to MPEG-4 Subtitles

It has been an ongoing and frustrating problem for me to find a way to create satisfying, professional looking subtitles that will display with MPEG-4 files (DivX, XviD, etc) watched on a standalone DVD player - that is, subtitles with fully-formatted text effects, such as bold, italics, colours and, especially, Unicode characters (specifically, musical note symbols to signify song lyrics in the subtitles) - just like those of professionally-authored DVDs. It's taken many months of perusing dozens of forum threads, and much trial and error, but I've finally figured out a fairly simple and effective way to do it.

How to add your own subtitle to DVD (keep menu, multi-episode, multi-pgc)

There are already couple of verty good guides made by TheMatrixx and Paddington. But certain program always produced errors for me and I couldn't make it work. So I tried to find my own way to add a subtitle and I found it! If one of the above guides work for you great, but if not, there is still hope. This guide will let you add your own subtitle while keeping the menu structure and it's also compatible with multi-pgc DVDs.

Rip and add new Subtitles to a DVD with SubtitleCreator

Based on my previous guide using srt2sup, which was very popular, I updated it to describe my own tool, SubtitleCreator, which allows you to do many of the things that srt2sup can, but is open source, has advanced synchronization features, reads *.sub files as well, and uses the original IFO file for the color palette. Give it a go, and let me know what you think of it.

Add a menu to a DVD without re-authoring, using DVD-Lab Pro

This guide is if you've made a movie only DVD (like when re-authoring with DVD Shrink) and would like to add a menu without complete re-authoring. Multiple audio/subtitles. It's also useful if you want to do the muxing with a reliable tool which doesn't support menus or is limited on the menu creation side for your taste and you want to create the menus with DVD-Lab Pro but you don't trust it to create the VTSs because is still Beta. This guide gives you a safe way to add a menu because you won't be touching the movie VOBs so it has few advantages over the tools that support re-authoring by importing the VOBs.

Hello, this is my guide to dvd2svcd. I decide to write this guide because allot of people seem to be asking how they can convert their DiVX (avi) movies into a SVCD and add permanent subtitles so they can watch them on there DVD Player. This guide will go through the entire process I will try to explain each step and why it was done, but I will assume you have a general understanding of encoding and are familiar with the programs used in this guide.
