How to convert all video formats to DVD MPEG2 using Xilisoft Video Converter

Xilisoft Video Converter allows you to convert video files between various formats including DVD, VCD, SVCD, MOV, RM, AVI, MPEG, WMV, 3GP etc. A big advantage is that the encoders are built-in so you don't have to search to download and install codecs and encoders for all the above formats. In this guide we are gonna see the steps that are required to convert a video file (like DivX/XviD/WMV/RM/MPEG) to a DVD MPEG2 ready to author and burn.

How to make a Dual or Multiple Audio AVI or MPEG4 file (XviD, DivX, other)

I have noticed yesterday big surprise in my friend's eyes when they suddenly discovered that some of my backup dvdrips in MPEG-4 format have dual and triple audio tracks within, and so I decided to write this short and simple guide, because almost every standalone divx/dvd player on the market supports multiaudio anyway.

Improve DVD backup quality with MenuShrink

No matter what DVD-to-DVD-R compressor or transcoding software you use, MenuShrink will improve the quality of the backup. The scheme is simple - by replacing the animated menus with still picture some more free space is recovered. This free space is then used for the actual movie, resulting in higher average bit rate thus giving you better image quality.

Stand-alone MPEG-4 (DivX, XviD...) Player Buyers Guide

Quite recently I went through the tedious process of researching the whole stand-alone player topic. Overall, there seems to be huge confusion over the actual technical features of these players and you have to scavenge dozens of Internet Forums for bits and pieces of unreliable information to aid your buying decision. Furthermore, Europeans suffer from a huge selection of players while people in the US have to choose between only a few available models.

A basic guide to video conversion using SUPER (pdf)

This is a basic guide to video conversion using the freeware video conversion tool SUPER, from eRightSoft. SUPER is a graphic front end to several free, powerful, but command-line only encoders. It makes the job of converting video from one format to another simple and relatively fast. This guide takes you through the basic of using SUPER to convert video from any format (camera phone, digital still camera, downloads etc) to the Windows Media Video format for editing in Windows Movie Maker, however the steps detailed here can also be used to convert to any other format that SUPER supports, including iPod and 3gp phone formats.

A guide for how to assign default audio and default subtitle streams for 'movie only' backups

This guide offers 2 methods for how to assign default audio and default subpicture (subtitle) streams for 'movie only' backups. The first uses DVD Shrink (in NO compression mode) so that you can then use your usual DVD backup software to compress the DVD. The second uses IFOEdit to modify an .IFO file to make the changes manually.

MacOS: Access Keypad - how to use myDVDEdit for modifying DVDs

The aim of this tutorial is to teach you how to use myDVDEdit for modifying DVDs. You will learn about the general structure of a DVD, how to modify buttons, how to add commands, as well as how to add a new VTS to an already existing DVD. Also in this tutorial, I'll show you how to add an access code to a DVD so as to stop other people from being able to watch it. Of course, it's pointless to suppose that a DVD can be completely protected, because there is plenty of software capable of reading VOB files, such as Quicktime and myDVDEdit of course, however, being able to limit access to ordinary DVD players isn't a bad start.

Add a menu to a DVD without re-authoring, using DVD-Lab Pro

This guide is if you've made a movie only DVD (like when re-authoring with DVD Shrink) and would like to add a menu without complete re-authoring. Multiple audio/subtitles. It's also useful if you want to do the muxing with a reliable tool which doesn't support menus or is limited on the menu creation side for your taste and you want to create the menus with DVD-Lab Pro but you don't trust it to create the VTSs because is still Beta. This guide gives you a safe way to add a menu because you won't be touching the movie VOBs so it has few advantages over the tools that support re-authoring by importing the VOBs.
