DVD subtitles to srt text subtitles using DVDsubedit or subrip

How to convert subtitles from a DVD to srt text subtitles using DVDsubedit or subrip. Subtitles on a DVD are stored as images so you need to OCR them to text, DVDsubedit does this automatically but not perfect and with subrip you have to identify each character once.

A guide for how to assign default audio and default subtitle streams for 'movie only' backups

This guide offers 2 methods for how to assign default audio and default subpicture (subtitle) streams for 'movie only' backups. The first uses DVD Shrink (in NO compression mode) so that you can then use your usual DVD backup software to compress the DVD. The second uses IFOEdit to modify an .IFO file to make the changes manually.

How to use PgcEdit’s Remapping and Restoring Functions

PgcEdit version 8.0 sees the completion of its very advanced DVD remapping and restoring tools. You can remap (reorder): * PGCs (new in 8.0) * TTNs within a VTS (new in 8.0) * Titlesets on the DVD * Title numbers * VOB-Cell IDs You can also remove uncalled (unreferenced) PGCs while preserving the structure and navigation of the DVD. And PgcEdit now enables you easily to restore backups, irrespective of how much you have edited your DVD, whilst preserving structure.

Guide for extracting menus for editing, and reinserting edited menus

I see questions every now and again asking how to extract menus for editing, or how to get edited menus back into a DVD. I can think of 4 scenarios where you might want to extract, edit, and replace a menu (or 2 or several), although there are more, I'm sure.

DVD Shrink error? Fix DVD files with FixVTS

This short article exists to show users a way to use a small but excellent tool called FixVTS to adjust your DVD files into better DVD compliance. Why? There are several reasons why you may need to do this. The most common reason is because software such as DVD Shrink has given errors when attempting to open a DVD. Using FixVTS, you can fix up the DVD in a matter of minutes and it should have solved such problems.

How to add your own subtitle to DVD (keep menu, multi-episode, multi-pgc)

There are already couple of verty good guides made by TheMatrixx and Paddington. But certain program always produced errors for me and I couldn't make it work. So I tried to find my own way to add a subtitle and I found it! If one of the above guides work for you great, but if not, there is still hope. This guide will let you add your own subtitle while keeping the menu structure and it's also compatible with multi-pgc DVDs.

How to Shrink DVD Menus with MenuShrink

Anybody who likes to backup their personally owned DVDs to DVDR could tell you that huge menu's are often a problem to compress while maintaining quality. MenuShrink is a nice little program that shrinks the size of your DVD menus by converting motion menu's to still menus, with or without background audio. This ultra-fast process could easily shrink a DVD menu to 5% of its original size while keeping the main menu functionality.

Frameserving the DVD means that you create a direct link between the DVD video and the editing tool, you don't have convert to a temporary huge AVI file or reconvert to a lossy AVI video format. How to burn ISO images using PgcEdit ensuring 32k gaps between IFOs and BUPs

This guide explains how to use PgcEdit to ensure mimimum spacing of 32k between the end of the IFO and the start of the BUP. Without this spacing, a single CRC error that would normally only affect one of the two files will affect both, rendering both files useless and the DVD to stop playing. PgcEdit also features an integrated buring module, which this guide shows how to set up and use.

Rip and add new Subtitles to a DVD with SubtitleCreator

Based on my previous guide using srt2sup, which was very popular, I updated it to describe my own tool, SubtitleCreator, which allows you to do many of the things that srt2sup can, but is open source, has advanced synchronization features, reads *.sub files as well, and uses the original IFO file for the color palette. Give it a go, and let me know what you think of it.

Importing selfmade menus to episode DVDs done with DVD Shrink

There are several ways to do this and so I'm only explaining a straightforward way doing it with DVD Shrink. However, first you gotta make up your mind concerning the structure of your menu. I for one am perfectly happy with a simple menu that only allows me to jump to each ep since I can switch languages and jump chapters during playback with my remote more conveniently. If you do fancy language and chapter selection menus you must generate more complex dummy assets instead. I might cover this in a future guide, in this one I'm dealing only with a simple menu.

Some tools can also import DVD VOB files directly without converting to MPG files.
