Youtube Video - Problem with Night Scenes and Fluorescent Lighting |

| Hi,
I am using a normal camera Canon A380 to capture my youtube videos. Here is a link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMn18q3z3_w As you can see, it is not exactly top quality, and there seems to be some flickering. I suspect this is due to the fluorescent lighting and the fact that it is at night. However, there is no flickering when I record in the day. Being a working man, night is the only time I can record these videos. How do I solve this problem? Would getting a dedicated camcorder allow me to record at night? Any recommendations? Thank you. | I also see flicker under fluorescent lights with my Canon point-and-shoot camera - mainly because the camera records at 30fps (with a relatively fast shutter speed), but the lights are 50Hz mains AC here, so the light flicker strobes with the camera's shutter, giving the flicker on the video.
A video camera will only solve the problem if you can use a slower shutter speed (so if there's no manual shutter, it won't help), and/or use a frame rate that matches the flicker rate of the lighting (which will stop the strobing) - e.g. use PAL/50Hz video in 50Hz mains AC countries (so if you use NTSC/60Hz in 50Hz countries, it won't help!). Instead of getting a new camera, it would be cheaper to buy an ordinary tungsten light bulb, and use only that to light your guitar playing. Ordinary tungsten light bulbs don't flicker nearly so much, so you won't see a problem if you use one of those. Maybe just get one or two desk lights? Or even some battery powered torches (if they are bright enough). Even with your existing camera, this will stop the flicker. You'll have to play with the position of the lights to get the video to look nice. Hope this helps. Cheers, David. |
