| I'm tying to convert some WMV files using the mac video converter but when i press the covert button it says the conversion has failed straight away, I also have Flip4Mac WMV Studio Pro HD 2.2.0.49 installed & i know i can use FFmpegX to convert but i just brought this software and don't want to waste my money | ||||

| never mind the crappy software...Why aren't you using flip4mac Studio Pro?
I have flip4mac studio, and aside from DRM'd WMV files, it handles conversion of everything else with ease..... | ||||

| Because it has to be used Via quicktime and the conversion is time consuming. About 0.1 mb a second and ffmpegX & Xilisoft averages @ 0.3 mb per second | ||||

| Ok, so what is the end result you are trying to achieve?
Why .avi? Why not just leave them as WMV and play them on the Mac through flip4mac? Or are you trying to encode them to avi (DIVX/XVID) to play on a DIVX enabled DVD Player? Or are you sharing them with friends over the web? If so, why not just point them to flip4mac if on a mac, or if their on windows, ....? A little more clarification of why they have to be avi would be more helpful..... | ||||

Actually, it does matter quite a bit. There are lot of ways to encode Divx and/or Xvid, but only a few of them will play on a standalone Divx player. The more relevant information you give, the better the answers you get. Taking an attitude, especially when people are trying to stop you getting scammed and ripped off by low life's like Xilisoft and their low quality, craptacular software, isn't going to get you much help at all. You also have to consider the age and power (or lack thereof) of your system, and accept that a solution that provides a quality output will be slow to run. | ||||

| Lowest common denominator encoding is a resolution is 720 x 480/576 or less, a bitrate of 2000 kbps or less, 1 GMC warp point, no qpel, no packed bitstream, CBR MP3 audio. This should play on pretty much any certified player. Some players can accept better, but this is the most generic. | ||||
