video file and subtitles file are out of sync because of missing intro
bmaya posted 2008 Aug 02 02:51
hi guys. here's the thing: i have a movie file which was edited / cut in order to reduce its file size. at the beginning of this file 43 sec have been cut out. it's an .mkv file and the subtitle are in .srt format. so what i wanted to know is if there's a way to subtract those 43sec from every entry in the .srt file in order to synchronise both files again. the .srt has about 1570 entries, so doing it manually is kind of... impossible.

any ideas?

ps: of course i could try to merge the movie with another 43sec .mkv file, putting this 43sec part to the movies' beginning. and that closing this gap between the beginning of the film and the start of the subtitles.
would that be possible?

There are lots of easy ways to do what you want. I would use SubtitleCreator. Open the SRT (File->Open Text Subtitles), Synchronize->Set Time Delay (set a negative (-) 43 second delay)->Apply the change->File->Save SRT.

That's great. Thank you so much manono. I had no idea that there are tools that provide such possibilities. I'll try that instantly.

edit: It worked almost perfectly. Now I just have to try and find out a more exact delay so the subtitles will be displayed on time. Thanks again. bb
