| Well, that Daytek DVR-950S I picked up won't work on any remote control I have and the original was missing. The unit powers up okay so it appears to be fully functional but I need to get a remote that will work with it. Anyone have a universal remote that will operate these Liteon/ILO/Daytek units? I have seen a replacement for the Liteon 5045 that this is based on (Remotec RT5045RM53) but that's it so far. No One-For-Alls or any other brand.... | ||

| Been checking lotsa forums but still no luck. I might try the 5045 remote if I can get an answer to the question of it working on the Daytek. It should considering my Daytek P-30 remote also works in my Akai 5001 clone. I don't think any other remotes will work with the HDD units but many forums are woefully out of date, so I just don't know... | ||

The remote for the Daytek P30 is identical to the remote for the liteon 5005, 5104, etc. The remotes for the 5045 and ilo RHD04 are the same. They will work the Ilo 04 with the correct button press’s but because they have no HDD some button functions are not available These remotes [The 5045] will not operate the Daytek P30 ot the liteon units Check this site http://store.litetrek.com/index.html I had not found a universal remote that properly operated these units | ||

| Call one-for-all who makes remotes. They have many more control codes available than show on their packages. I bought a one-for-all remote which they were able to download over a telephone to support my Insignia recorder.

| Yeah that site is a treasure trove of info. Apparently, One-For-All was not issued codes for the Liteon/ILO/Daytek etc. recorders so there are none available for their remotes. Bummer that.... | ||

| I believe there definitely are codes for the 5005 available from oneforall for models which are upgradeable.
If there are codes they will tell you, and tell you which models can be upgraded to use them. You have no idea how weird it is to hold your remote control up to your phone receiver to download codes. Although the remote central site is extensive it is not complete. And oneforall's site only lists their standard codes they ship with. | ||

| You might also look into the Logitech Harmony remotes. They are a bit pricey, but they support many makes and models, all programable via your computer. | ||

I looked at those but wound up going with Vito Remote running on a Pocket PC with IR. Vito Remote allows me to custom create remotes (buttons & skins), unlimited macros, runs every IR device I've tried it on and it runs my HTPC through the Imon including turning the computer on/off or waking from/putting it in hibernate. The fact that I already had the Pocket PC swayed my decision but if I had to do it again and needed to buy a Pocket PC to do it, I would. | ||

| There are various models of the Harmony, and they pretty much support all IR based hardware. Most allow custom macros, remapping of buttons, and are learning remotes (if you have an original remote and for some reason it isn't already supported). Should do everything Video Head is doing with the Pocket PC. | ||

| The OEM version of the remote can be had for as little as $15USD + shipping while the cost of a replacement remote in Canada is about $50CAD which includes tax and shipping. The harmony remotes start at $99CAD up here. Not the greatest investment for me as the deck only cost me $101CAD! Yeah, I have the program for turning a pocket PC into a remote control and it might actually run on my Visor but I haven't played with that device in years and can't access anything that has an IR transmitter to communicate with it. I have the cradle here somewhere but after 2 days of looking for it have had to give up (for now). Not many cheap options I guess... | ||

| Okay...the Noviiremote and the OmniRemote software will work on my Handspring Visor. I have remote codes for ILO R04 as well as others like Liteon 5001, 5005, etc. I have one for a 5045 that is apparently in German and incomplete but it may serve my purposes. There seem to be tons of remote codes for stuff using this old hardware. I'll keep you informed... | ||

I'm not talking remapping buttons...I'm talking creating complete custom designed remote controls on an LCD screen. Place buttons where you want, make them whatever colour you want, make them whatever size you want, make them whatever shape you want, make them do what you want, add a background of your choice. 28 step macros? No problem. You can program a home screen to drive other custom screens. I have one remote screen that is nothing but a number pad for selecting TV channels. I access it by pressing a button I created called "num" on my TV remote screen. It takes a while to program, but once it's done it is yours. | ||

| Welp, I give up! The Omni Remote Palm software is for making a learning remote (since I don't have the original, it's moot) and the Novii software won't work with a Palm OS below 3.5 (which I have). Time to call it a night... | ||
