| I'm looking for a free open source video editor that supports most common video formats. I was looking into Open Movie Editor, but it only runs on Linux. Is there any video editing software that supports all the codecs that ffmpeg supports? I just need to basically jam together some video clips and audio clips that I'll be recording myself for a class 'commercial'. Doesn't have to be very detailed, just needs to support the various formats that I need to put in. |

| Check out VirtualDubMod I think it is the best freeware editor available.

| I've tried VDubMod and I like it, but I need some kind of nonlinear editor that I can add clips on on a timeline :\
Do you know of one that can help me in that regard? |

| Have you tried Windows Media Maker. It is standard on most versions of Windows and I think it can do some of what you are after, though I have not used it much.
Other than that I can recommend Magix Movie Editor Pro & Sony Vegas Pro. Both of these will work but they are not freeware. Perhaps others know of some additional freeware available. | I tried using the tools section but I can't tell what all video formats are supported. I think I'll just end up converting the files(something I was trying to avoid :P) and then import them into movie maker. If anyone can suggest a better alternative though, please let me know :) |
