Toshiba DR410 DVD Recorder -- Any good?

ministry88 posted 2008 Dec 24 13:19
So I've been having trouble lately finding the legendary Toshiba D-R4, but I see it has been replaced by the DR410 model. Does "replaced" simply mean "outsourced by junky Funai"? Or is this of comparable build quality (and reliability) as the D-R4?

If you guys remember, I'm the guy who got burned by the el-cheapo Toshiba combo VCR/DVD recorder DVR610 unit and am desperately looking for a DVD recording unit that will go the distance in transferring my hundreds of VHS to DVD-R!

It's Funai junk with nowhere near the PQ of the D-R4. I bought one just to see what it was like. I tried it and sold it.

If you have some pateince and watch ebay, you can get a D-R4 or an XS series for a decent price. The KX-50 has the same PQ as the others but lacks the black level adjustment on either the input or output side, input I think, I'm not sure on that though, I haven't used it in a long time. The D-R4 and XS series have black level setting on the input/output sides both.
