SVCD2DVD used to work, no longer

gddeluca posted 2009 Sep 22 16:30
OK, I'm on Vista Home Premium with all the latest maintenance.

I haven't used SVCD2DVD in quite a while. Tried it, got the splash screen, then nothing. No error messages, no crashes, nothing. SVCD2DVD is no longer in the task list.

So, I downloaded the latest and greatest version, installed it (which, by the way is NOT in Program Files location) and got the same result.

Found a post regarding .NET release (2.x) so downloaded and installed that. (Said it was already on)

Tried running as an Admin. No luck.

Logged on as the Admin and tried. No luck.

So, what now?

Have I just missed a 'magic' post on how to resolve this?

When you installed the new version, did you get through the registration process?

gddeluca posted 2009 Sep 23 09:17
I got no prompts for registration, I assumed since I'd registered before that it had just picked up the previous registration data.

Maybe I'll try an uninstall and then a re-install. Its worth a try.

OK, completely un-installed and re-installed. This time the Installer proceeded to the registration process. I completed that and all now seems well.

Pretty damn unfriendly though for the App. to simply shut down with no messages whatsoever as to the cause. Sure re-installing fixed it, but then why didn't a 'Repair' install also fix it? Obviously repair doesn't do what it says.

Users should not be left to flounder around without even a clue as to the cause. If the program is smart enough to shut down (not just crash) it should be smart enough to at least issue some message to clue in the user.

The "Repair" option is all down to Windows Installer not the program.

I agree but many programs do this... Windows does this to me several times a week!

Glad you are back up and running.
