Suggestions for a new SATA DVD Drive with Lightscribe....

mjvgiese posted 2009 Sep 21 18:30
I'm looking for suggestions for a new DVD Drive, with SATA connection and Lightscribe capability.

Here's the story:
I went to hook my old BenQ DW1655 into my newer Vista PC, and I found that my PC doesn't have a single IDE connector. :( I even tried an IDE to SATA adapter, but I couldn't get that to work. So, it looks like I'll be saying goodbye to my BenQ. (Is this something that might go on eBay?)

So basically I'm looking for a decent drive, obviously with a SATA connection. Lightscribe is a necessity for me, too. I'd also like scanning capabilities, something that works with the DiscQuality scans in Nero CD/DVD speed.

I noticed NewEgg has several right around the $30 to $35 mark, that's about the price I'd like. The Samsung SH-S223L has pretty good reviews.....but they also have a Sony and two HP's with 4 egg ratings. Does anyone have any opinions about any of these?

(I know there's a similar thread going right now, but I didn't want to hijack it with my questions.)
Thanks for any info!
:)

I have that Samsung drive, it's worked fine for me. I can scan with DVDInfoPro, I've never used Nero.

I have the Samsung SH-S223L and its better than my liteon and lg burners and reads all the previous burned cd and dvd that the other burners cant and rips at full speed unlike the lg.

Also have the Samsung SH223L. No problems with any burning app: Nero, Imgburn, Chrome II all work fine. Lightscribe is a bit iffy. Sometimes on the first try, the label comes out blank. If I reburn the label, it works.

The HP and Sony drives are just rebadged drives manufactured by other companies. HP is probably a LITEON or LG. The SONY could be SAMSUNG, LITEON or NEC. The newer PIONEER 218 is a LITEON. :( Pioneer no longer manufactures their own dvd burners. They got out of the game just like BENQ & SONY.

As already mentioned get the SAMSUNG sata dvdrw. I own the older S203B model and haven't had a problem with it yet as I own 3 of them.
