Subrip and Hard Subbed Video files - does it work?

There is a new feature in Subrip to extraxt subtitles from Hard Subbed Video files. I've tried that following the zuggy's guide but haven't succeded. I've tried to extract from mpeg's, avi's and DV avi's, but no luck. Has anybody extracted subtitles successfuly from hard subbed video with Subrip? Thanks

Well, I didn't use it, so I don't know. But if you want a tool for extracting hard coded subs I can suggest this one: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=89802 Reading the comments it seem to do decent job.

Some time ago, I tried to rip hard subs off of a TVrip with Subrip but couldn't get it to work. Later however, I was successful ripping subs from an .avi that I had earlier hardsubbed myself. Not sure if I could do it again though.
