http://www.atlanticdvd.com.au/films/show/91590 Visit any movie or PC fair and the Region-1 disc isn't hard to come by either even here in England which is officially Region-2. (I'm talking genuine studio pressings with original packaging, not any kind of bootleg)

| So your answer to redwudz question would be no, you are not using the latest version of any ripping software :idea:
Maybe that's why you are having trouble with a new release :roll:

Cool for you guys. I have the Blu pre-ordered from Amazon so I'll just be waiting. It's one of the few movies in recent years I saw multiple times in theatre. Can't wait.

| Star Trek 2009 DVD is one tough sucker to backup. But not impossible. Try RipIt4Me in "Full disc" mode. Because of the wierd title structure on the disc, you'll need a spare 40GB of HDD space to create the initial file, even though dual layer DVDs only hold ~8.5GB. Once you've created the file, use DVD Shrink 32 in ReAuthor mode to open it. You'll find (in the Aust. version anyway) 99 titles and about 10 menus. Title 21 is the only one you'll need (as it's the only one containing the movie in correct chapter sequence) and it can be backed up to your HDD / media player / archive.
"Of course, DVD back ups should only be performed on DVDs that you actually own, and only for your own personel use. Please respect the rights of the copyright owner and never copy rented / borrowed movies"

| I expect DVDFab HD Decrypter will probably crack it by the time it's released in the US (Nov 17), or soon thereafter. | ||||

| Its out on region 2, ie Greece, Cyprus, since yesterday. Thats long before the region 1 release. Happens sometimes, dunno why. Anyhows, the latest DvdFabHD 6125, ain't making a dent on it so far. Tough cookie. | ||||
| cyflyer posted 2009 Oct 28 07:40 | ||||
| OzyOzyOzyOiOiO's system with Ripit4Me worked, sort of. Very longwinded, and You end up with umpteen titles , title 1 to 19 and 78 to 97, all with the movie and all with slightly varying length and file size. You just got to figure out which one is the right one, which in the case of the region 2 version is title 19. | ||||

| Hi I live in Mexico... and Star Trek its here! I got it in Block Busters, I was trying to backup the movie for my son, I dont wanted scratched, so he can play with it and remove all the menus... so far I have try DVD clone and DVDFAb.. no luck :( still dont get it it mixes chapters, wired encryption... any ideas? | ||||
| ntscuser posted 2009 Oct 28 13:14 | ||||
The menu structire of this title is quite unusual and I would advise against removing any parts you're not 100% certain of.
| jman98 posted 2009 Oct 28 13:42 | ||||
| Gotta love Hollywood. So the entire world now has the movie EXCEPT those of us in region 1 who still have to wait 3 weeks for it? Although if we lived in the UK we could somehow buy the region 1 disc and it's not a bootleg but it's still not going to be available here for 3 more weeks. Yeah, that's for sure going to stop those pesky bootleggers to screw over region 1 consumers. Oh wait - it won't. | ||||
| skepticus posted 2009 Oct 29 00:17 | ||||
| Hi ntscuser, the menus structure is weired, on DVDfab, if I try to burn only the movie, I will get a ton of section, each with 15 chapters, of you see each one, on the mini viewer, the chapters are all mixed up, if I try to burn the whole disk, it will compressed it to 15%, I just dont get it?
the only way for me is to copy the movie on the fly and make a new DVD

| Judging from cyflyer's comment, it looks as though the working title varies according to region. i.e. title 21 in region 4 , title 19 in region 2. Might be an idea to play the DVD in a regular DVD player first (aka not a computer) and use the display / info button while the main movie is playing, to see which of the 99 titles is being used in your region. Then follow the directions on my previous thread. ^ | ||||
| leghorn posted 2009 Oct 29 05:06 | ||||
| To find out which title to copy I actually run the DVD in PowerDVD (will work with any other DVD player), select Main Movie and watch. Then the play stats show the current running time and - which title is being played. I guess this should make it easier to choose the right title. | ||||
| cyflyer posted 2009 Oct 29 07:29 | ||||
| Leghorn, thats exactly what I did. Weird that DVDfab 6125 won't rip it, but DVDfab 6120 will.... | ||||

RipIt4Me + dvddecrypter ... process all 41gig to folder (this may take a while because of the fakes) ... do not let RipIt4Me perform final clean. Run vobblanker to cleanup all non genuine titles Navigational commands my need adjustment using pgcedit prior to burn It certainly is a beauty but not undo able Ps : The movie starts from cell 9 in vts_07 ... blank them as well Rating : 8.5 (camera scene shakes and annoying camera glare in many) ... should have shot the film crew :)
| ntscuser posted 2009 Oct 29 09:44 | ||||
| I cloned the entire disc 1:1 ratio DVD9 with Fab (free) version 6.1.2.5, not just the main movie.
Use VobBlanker or similar to remove any unwanted features. DVDRebuilder to shrink. PGCedit to clean-up afterwards.

| skepticus posted 2009 Oct 29 23:15 | ||||
| I manage to rip it, what I did was CLONE the movie with DVDfab and DVDidle Pro, make an .ISO file, then I mounted it on a virtual drive using MagicIso, all the protection were remove on that process, then I used DVDFab 6.1 again (to burn it, copy, split, Main Movie.. etc...), then all the rest of dummy Titles just disappeared! just showing the good ones!
cheers I hope it helps for the future when people form the US gets it!!! :) ![]()

| A quick Google search and I find a huge number of people have tried to put this movie on the online storage sites, but in every case that I checked, the files had been deleted. (I use passive voice here because I don't know who deleted the files). This makes me interested. It must be a very good movie. Worth getting. | ||||

| Star Trek 2009 (I am using Vista 32bit)
1. Use only Dvdfab 5 to Rip 2. Use main Movie Feature (not full disc) 3. Program will defualt to title 24 ( this is file is not to be used) 4. Choose File 21 5. Once file is ripped: Drop all files into Nero... 6. I was up all night figuring this one out...enjoy
| Bjs posted 2009 Oct 31 11:48 | ||||
DVDRebuilder as mentioned by ntscuser shouldn't have any problems Dvdshrink is outdated and ShrinkTo5Basic will encounter problems (title video 0 size) We do try to avoid propriety software as not everybody will have access to such products.
| Noahtuck posted 2009 Oct 31 12:04 | ||||
Maybe try an updated version of DVDFab HD Decrypter , seeing as the latest version, 6.1.2.5, was released 4 days before you posted. :roll: Nero ? :shock: :?

for a moment i thought it was file nr 22 but its indeed file 21 here Dutch pal dvd star trek
| vista-vision posted 2009 Oct 31 12:52 | ||||
indeed file 21 to me (pal dutch) riped whit dvd fab(total film) and then open in shrink re author mode and you see the file numbers and times of each file and you can even play them then (to enlarge screen at that moment rightmouse on smal filmwindow(in shrinkre authormode). so maybe its just question of moving nummber 21 to nero (nero essentials for me) to make good copy(havent done that yet) (if you rip it you must do it on a harddrive that has 40g plus free space to spare because of all the double stuff on this dvd)

| I managed to do a backup of the movie itself (Region 2) only using the following:
AnyDVD 6.5.4.0 and CloneDVD 2.9.2.2 As stated earlier, you have to select title 21 and no other options. You can choose subtitles and languages. Wrote to a single layer dvd and plays fine in my Daewoo DVD/HDD recorder. As I said this is only the movie. I havent tried any other titles or features. Hope this helps. Much easier method IMO.

| Star Trek (2009) Chris Pine was released in Region 1 today November 17 and I'm acquiring it soon. Despite all the good advice above, I expect it to be difficult to backup. I don't read everything, but haven't noticed any mention that DVDFab or AnyDVD have cracked it for Region 1. Any updates appreciated. Thanks.
As an old time trekker, I also hope the movie lives up to its high billing! I've been watching a lot of junk for a long time, hoping for a good one for a change.
| ntscuser posted 2009 Nov 17 08:58 | ||||
| Any recent version of DVDFab rips it just fine. There's a lot junk commands left over but they don't prevent playback on any reasonably modern machine. Some older players had problems. | ||||

| Wow, everyone seems to be having difficulty with this one. My backup was a breeze! Just used this trusty old method:
1. Started AnyDVD (latest version) 2. Started DVD Shrink and selected Re-author as opposed to Full Disc. Shrink automatically selected Title 21. Output to .iso file. 3. Burn with ImgBurn Whola! Easy Peasy!

| DVDFab 6.2.0.5 (paid version) worked fine to copy Star Trek (2009), either the full disk or main movie, after the UI settled down.
The last couple of versions of DVDFab are unstable on my XP Home SP3 system. For example: The settings screen oscillates on/off a couple of times before stabilizing. It won't hold settings or stick to the defaults. It tries to revert from DVD9 to DVD5 quality. It gets the number of MB wrong sometimes for the movie to be ripped on the first try. But with persistence (after multiple tries, and perhaps closing/reopening DVDFab) it settles down and works right - for awhile, at least.

Same problem, I couldn't watch it past where the baby was crying. Not a technical problem, but I just couldn't get interested enough to watch it any further. I think, no matter how you obtain this movie, buy, borrow or otherwise, it is not worth watching. I just hit the delete button and free up 1.4GB on the hard drive.
