Sony trv 18 no internal speaker volume, no headphone volume | ||

| My Sony trv 18 is having problems with no internal speaker volume and no headphone volume. I played the tape back in another unit and the audio is fine
so there is no headclog to be concerned about. Anyone have any ideas how to get volume back? thx. Mark | ||

A few possibilities... 1. A disconnected wire as suggested. Disassembly of a camcorder is similar to taking a watch apart. Expect springs and shims to go flying. Try a local repair shop. 2. A scratchy/dirty volume control. Exercise it end to end in hopes of cleaning off the dirt/corrosion. 3. A firmware error resulting in a loss of connection to the A/D monitoring the control. Here is an example. My Canon S-60 digital camera turns on and off by opening the lens door. Over time the door switch became intermittent and eventually refused to turn the camera on at all. Naturally I suspected a broken hardware switch. I set the camera aside and removed the battery for use in another camera. A year passes. A few weeks ago I needed a second camera so decided to try to fix the S-60 or buy a new camera. I was ready to open it up and try to fix it myself. To my surprise, when I inserted the battery, the camera functioned perfectly as new. I had to set date and other setup functions from the manual. What happened was the software was totally discharged forcing the camera to reboot from scratch. It was a software corruption, not a hardware failure. Your camcorder probably has a watch type battery to keep the boot software active. Remove and replace it waiting a few hours for full RAM discharge. Then install the new battery and see if the camcorder has reset. If the volume control is still broken, see step #1 and #2. A local repair shop should be able to fix a broken volume control. Sony will charge a flat fee in the $179-220 range. | ||

Most camcorders have the small battery to hold settings but not all. If the manual does not mention the battery then remove the main battery for a day or two until the settings (e.g. date and time) return to default conditions. | ||

good day...kindly adjust the volume control of the camera.....maybe it's set too low..hope this helps! |
