Shrinking a video file size |

| I'm having a real hard time doing this. Ive tried using windows media encoder and windows movie maker. First off not really sure what I'm doing on there. And second they both shut done on me before i can do anything.
Is there a really simple program that only does only one thing and that is shrinking videos? The video size is 45 MB, I'm trying to get it o 30MB. But there are also other videos id like to shrink that are much bigger thanks for the help. |

| To get smaller file size you lower the video and audio bitrate, you can use a bitrate calculator to get the average bitrate(see our tools list). In some converters can you set the desired output file size and it will calculate the bitrate for you. For avi files you can try avirecomp to easily shrink it. Or else try all-in-one converters like Format Factory, ANy Video Converter, WinFF. |

| Ya still don't understand what I'm supposed to do while I have any of those programs you suggested downloaded. I realize i have to lower the audio and video bite rate. But cant find any clear cut way to do that. And id like to keep some quality the video already looks terrible as it is.
Thanks for any help |

| Well, shrinking it not only means re-encoding it, which will cause quality loss x 2, re-encoding will cause some quality loss, and making it smaller by reducing the audio & video bitrate will cause quality loss.
So if it's already crappy, it will NOT get any better, maybe stay the same at BEST!!! And if you have videos that are "much bigger" and want to compress them even smaller, they will probably get worse. Unless you plan on watching them in a small window on your PC and not any kind of larger TV. Next, you have been a member here for 4 years and these are your only two post's ? No offense, but i'm guessing you have not been reading much or paying attention either. If you want more specific instructions, details, recommended programs, ect it might be a good idea to say what TYPE of VIDEO you have and want to change. What it really boils down to is, No one can understand anything you want to do when you don't give ANY details. Just saying "Shrinking a video file size" means nothing. Do you realize how many different types or formats of video there are ? And how many tools, good and bad, there are for every different type or format of video ? |

| Ya I dont use this forum lots. Just when I have a problem I cant find a solution for.
Im not offended at all. I was hoping there was some kinda universal video compression tool lol. Cause I got all kinds of videos id like to down size. But right now I have two videos I would like to shrink. Video #1 320x240 3:08min long 88kbps audio PCM audio format 30 frames/second 181kbps drive rate MS-MPEG4 V2 video compression 33.3MB Video #2 320x240 1:59 min long 128kbps audio bitrate MPEG Layer-3 audio format 30 frames/second 388kbps drive rate XVID video compression 45.5mb |
