Retail backup's of TV Series on DVD
ss30 posted 2008 Aug 21 03:00
I joined lovefilm a while ago so I could rent some tv series that I want to have for keeps like Skins and Long Way Round.

I did a straight copy (dump to HDD on me PC using DVD Decrypter and burn back to a DVD DL using Nero) but I have a problem with Skins and Long Way Round (other DVD retail tv series I have done this way have worked like Ideal).

The way the disk made all the episodes are all lumped together in one big vob set rather then one vob set per episode and when I play the backup and select the episode I want to watch I get no sound(I have tried the disc in two different dvd players) but if I select to watch all episodes they work fine with sound.

Is there any way to get them to work as they should?

Thanks

Certainly you didn't make "straight copies" if your copies work differently than the source dics.
Don't use "file mode" (or whatever it is called in the software you use), always copy them as ISO images and you'll never have problems.

making copies of a rental discs is called "stealing", not "making backups".
(although I would agree with you partially that something that has been aired for free on public tv cannot be stolen since it was broadcasted, but still - there is always some "added content" on the rental DVDs thus copying it makes it stealing)

Please BUY the DVD's. Do not discuss warez here thanks

What is warez? Obtained IP (intellectual property: software/music/movies/tv-series/tv-shows) either through download, serial, or crack in a manner that either explicitly or implied breaks the copyright or license for that IP.
