putting vobs to dvds

chuchi327 posted 2009 Oct 19 19:47
I recently converted several avi files to vob using convertxtodvd, the problem I have is that the vob files combined are way more than can fit on 1 dvd. Is there a wa to cut the vob files to put them on more than 1 dvd?

thanks

How much too big ? The very point for ConvertXtoDVD's existence is to convert AVI files to DVD to fit on a single layer disc - unless you tell it to target a larger size. Unless you have tried to fit a stupid amount of footage onto a disc (say, more than three hours), it should have no trouble making a disc sized output.

You have three choices for a simple solution using free software

1. Redo the disc properly with ConvertXtoDVD. This means either setting the correct target size, or putting less on the disc.

2. Run the disc through DVD Rebuilder or DVD Shrink to get it down to the correct size

3. Use DVD Shrink to re-author the disc to fit. How to do this best depends on what is on the disc. If it is a single title, use Re-author mode, drag the title to the left-hand pane, right-click on it and select the Set Start and End option. Select a new end point (i.e. where you want the disc to cut) and save this as a new DVD structure. Repeat, this time setting the start point to where the last disc ended. Save this as a new disc structure. You now have disc 1 and disc 2. If you have multiple titles and a menu it might be easier to simply select certain titles and place them with a black jpg for the duration.

If it were me, I would do it again properly.

its something like 7 or 8 different vob files..... you mentioned making sure I placed the setting correctly on the programa convertxtodvd. how do I do this? Im so not tech savvy in these things. all avis are of different lengths. I also have dvd shrink.. but again I dont know how to use it. Im so sorry for not understanding.

If these avi files are movies....use only one "movie" per DVD. The file size of an avi file has zero to do with the 4.7GB size of the blank. Your program is going to convert that seemingly small avi file UP to just under the 4.7GB capacity of the blank DVD.

Add up the total run times. Anything over 3 hours will start to look bad.
