| So I'm having a problem with my GGW-H20L burner.
No issues when burning cd's and dvd's but every time I try to burn to the included BD-RE disc, the device buffer crashes...to around 15-20%. It's telling me a complete 25gb disc will take about 50 hours. Any idea why that would be? I have some BD-R's but I'm worried about wasting a $5 blank on something that might be a hardware problem.

| Have you tried different software? Like Imgburn. Try on the bd-re discs. | ||||||

I did. Same problem. Burned incredibly slowly. But again, this is only on Blu-Ray discs. I've even tried burning less information but as a BD-ROM and the same thing happened.

| Are you authoring a bluray format video disc? Is it in spec? If you are burning just data it shouldn't take that long I imagine. Of course I only have a bluray rom not a burner so I dont' have personal experience.
I would make sure you are authoring correctly if you are burning a bluray video format disc. There is a chance the program you are using is reencoding the video if it is not compliant. If this is slow data burning not video I am not sure what the problem might be.

Yep. I tried to just burn some data because I figured there may be a different problem. No difference. It still burned dead-ass slow. I know that RE's only burn at 2x but it still shouldn't take as long as it was going to. At one point, I left it on to see how long it would take to complete and it told me 50 HOURS for one BD.

| The best part? I call the 24/7/365 LG # and what does it tell me? They're closed until tommorrow.
Sheesh. | ||||||

| Well, this thread may have to be moved to a software forum.
It turns out the problem isn't with the burner: it's the RE disc. I tried to burn the same files onto a write-once BD-R and no problems. Burned at 6x and played perfectly on my pS3. So now what could be the problem with the RE disc? I've tried erasing it with 3 different programs, figuring that might be the problem. Still nothing. THe best that I got was it taking about 3-4 hours to burn one film. I think that's burning at about .75, possibly. Still nowhere near 2x.

| Wrong brand, not supported or just a BAD DISC. | ||||||

Wrong brand? It's an LG disc with an LG burner. :) Do they have a warranty on these things?

It wouldn't be the first time some blank-DVD-manufacturing company created a bad blank disk with some other company's logo on it.

| I guess my question is whether any programs have problems erasing these bd-re discs, since it is new technology and everything. Is there any evidence of it being a problem?
Are these discs guaranteed?

...of what? I'd mail LG about this and ask about resolving the issue.
| [_chef_] posted 2008 Jul 17 15:04 | ||||||
What exactly does that mean? First, its BD-RE and you need to format it first properly. Then, burning time is doubled because of the automatic verifying....
| digitalfreaknyc posted 2008 Jul 18 07:04 | ||||||
Instead of burning a blu-ray movie, I just tried burning some random files on the disc to see if it would take less time and it didn't. By formatting it, you do it the same way by erasing via Nero or something, correct? Doubled only on RE?

| VERIFY is always on.
Full format with Imgburn.

| This is the drive that I had to return to LG for repair 3 times. 3 TIMES!!!
It never completed a burning process. I finally sold it on ebay and bought a Pioneer and installed it in my Mac Pro. |
